A few comments...

-Interesting to see how 'GH HIStory Volume I' keeps selling about 5,000 copies each week in the USA.

However, I do think 'Number Ones' will eventually surpass it eventually (sooner rather than later). The album seems to be holding up pretty well (combined US and UK sales were about 35,000 units last week). I think the album probably sold about 50,000 units worldwide last week (maybe more?).

-I've calculated and there's 145,611 units separating 'GH HIStory' and 'Number Ones' in the USA.

In case anyone's interested, 'Number Ones' is still charting in the Top 10 in Ireland and the UK. Top 20 in Australia, UK, New Zealand, and the Netherlands. And, Top 30 in Germany and France. The album has also sold 144,000 copies in Japan after nine weeks.

However, I do think 'Number Ones' will eventually surpass it eventually (sooner rather than later). The album seems to be holding up pretty well (combined US and UK sales were about 35,000 units last week). I think the album probably sold about 50,000 units worldwide last week (maybe more?).

-I've calculated and there's 145,611 units separating 'GH HIStory' and 'Number Ones' in the USA.

In case anyone's interested, 'Number Ones' is still charting in the Top 10 in Ireland and the UK. Top 20 in Australia, UK, New Zealand, and the Netherlands. And, Top 30 in Germany and France. The album has also sold 144,000 copies in Japan after nine weeks.

last month, Mike's music manager Charles Kopplemen said on one of the morning shows in the US that Number Ones reached 4million worldwide in 2003 ( which is only from 6 weeks of sales since it was released about 18th Nov - remember that date?).

Also, Sony listed Number Ones as one of the albums that helped them attain a profit in the 4th quarter. It was second to Beyonce's album which sold 5 million worldwide in 2003 and that album has been on the charters for 34 weeks.

So, Not bad in my opinion.

I am a rather big fan of Michael Jackson. In 2001, the first of his four albums as a solo artist, "Off the Wall," "Thriller," "Bad" and "Dangerous," were re-released as special editions. However, I have never been able to find sales numbers for them. I don't recall any of them re-entering the top 100 (on The Billboard 200 albums chart), so I was wondering if you knew how many they sold?

On Oct. 16, 2001, Epic re-released expanded editions of four Michael Jackson albums, each with bonus material that included unreleased songs. The four albums were considered catalog and not new albums for the purposes of Billboard's charts, thus making them only eligible to appear on the Top Pop Catalog chart.

Each title reached the Top Pop Catalog albums tally upon the re-release, led by "Thriller" at No. 3. "Off the Wall" reached No. 7, "Bad" climbed to No. 8 and "Dangerous" made it to No. 34.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, "Thriller" has sold 536,000 copies since the new version appeared, while "Off the Wall" has moved 192,000, "Bad" has sold 177,000 and 99,000 copies of "Dangerous" have been sold.

Each title reached the Top Pop Catalog albums tally upon the re-release, led by "Thriller" at No. 3. "Off the Wall" reached No. 7, "Bad" climbed to No. 8 and "Dangerous" made it to No. 34.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, "Thriller" has sold 536,000 copies since the new version appeared, while "Off the Wall" has moved 192,000, "Bad" has sold 177,000 and 99,000 copies of "Dangerous" have been sold.

Hey G - Since Off The Wall is a critical favorite, it's not too surprising to see it have an edge over Bad. With that said, the 15,000 units separating each title isn't that huge so it will be interesting to see if Bad ever catches up (or surpasses) Off The Wall's Soundscan tally.

I'm surprised no one has noticed that Dangerous (Special Edition) has surpassed 100,000 units scanned. Quite an accomplishment considering there's no bonus material on the set!

Michael Jackson Continues To ‘March’ On The Charts

For the month of March 2004, Michael Jackson continued to rack up solid sales across the United States and around the world. Among the many notables achieved over the course of the month: three titles in his Epic catalog registered combined U.S. sales of over 75,000 units; the artist's Number Ones album preserved it's lengthy Top 10 residency on both the UK and Australian Urban Album Charts; the newly released The One DVD debuted at #2 in the UK; and Jackson's U.S. Soundscan sales for Epic albums released between October 2001 and November 2003 reached an impressive 4.5 million units to date.

USA

Nearing it's fifth month on the Billboard 200, Michael Jackson's Number Ones has already reached a platinum shipment of 1,000,000 units in the United States. With over 40,000 units sold during the past month, the album currently remains Jackson's top selling title. Elsewhere, the artist can also take quiet satisfaction in knowing that his landmark 1982 album Thriller continues it's lengthy residency on the charts. In fact, the album became such a mover that it posted increased sales for four consecutive weeks on Billboard's Pop Catalog chart - at one point achieving the "Greatest Gainer/Sales" designation for the week ending March 4th, 2004. With cumulative sales of approximately 25,000 units for the month, Thriller's durable chart run shows no signs of abating with the title having accrued it's 212th week on the chart. Not to be forgotten, Jackson's quietly released Greatest Hits - HIStory Volume I shifted an additional 11,000 units for the month bringing it's Soundscan total to over 710,000 units (making it another title eligible for a platinum certification by the RIAA.)

INTERNATIONAL

With UK sales of 1.2 million and counting, Michael Jackson's Number Ones is undoubtedly one of Sony Music UK's biggest success stories of the past year. For the month of March, the album maintained its tenure on the main UK Album Chart while a brand new DVD consisting of Jackson's highly rated CBS primetime special (appropriately titled The One) debuted at #2 on the UK Top Music DVD and Video Chart. Predictably, Number Ones spent another month lodged inside the Top 10 of UK Urban Album Chart, a similarity it shared in another territory: Australia.

Speaking of the land down under, in addition to maintaining it's consecutive Top 10 streak on the ARIA Urban Album Chart, Michael Jackson's Number Ones companion DVD also held tight notching it's 19th week in the Top 10 of the ARIA Top Music DVD Chart. And, like in many countries around the world, Australia's love affair with Thriller carried on as the album secured another month in the Top 40 of the ARIA Urban Album Chart - giving Michael Jackson the rare distinction of having two titles on the specialty chart.

Elsewhere around the world, Number Ones continued to chart in countries such as: Ireland, Germany, Canada, and the Netherlands.

$ony Music Spain is planning to promote the special edition of Thriller in newspapers and music stores to celebrate the 20 anniversary of the first million of copies sold in the USA by Thriller, and they said their objective is to put Thriller in the #1 of Spanish Charts
