'Number Ones' was certified platinum in Europe in December 2003 signifying shipment of 1 million units. Since the album has sold that amount in the UK alone as of this writing, a double platinum certification should be soon coming.

Thread updated.

From the IFPI:

Despite recent controversy surrounding his personal life, Michael Jackson is rightly known as the King of Pop. The Number Ones greatest hits collection is a reminder of the multitude of groundbreaking hits that Jackson's phenomenal talent as a solo artist has produced.

Okay Negative Nancy report of today:
The 2nd platinum award could come as soon as next month, but it could take alot longer...
Just look at Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake's albums, both had sold more than 1.5M in the UK alone this summer, Christina got her 2nd Platinum award this month, and Justin still hasn't been recertified...
Just like in the US, you have to ship MORE than 2M to get the 2nd award... It doesn't matter if the album has scanned 1.999.999 copies, if it hasn't shipped 2.000.001 copies it won't get that 2nd award...

That was my negative angle for DADAY :flowers:

On Dec. 19th, 2003, 'Number Ones' was certified 3X Platinum in the UK. That signifies shipment of 900,000 units.

A reliable source at Sony Music UK has told me that 1.65 million units have now been shipped. If so, 'Number Ones' is now eligible for at least a 5X Platinum certification in that market.

Thread updated with official 3X platinum certification info.
