Michael Jackson's Thriller 25 returns to #1 on the Catalog Album chart for a 10th week, with sales of 13,000. It would have ranked #41 on the big chart if older, catalog albums were eligible to appear there. This brings sales of the album to 556,000, which makes it the #10 album for the year-to-date. "Thriller" and "Billie Jean" are both listed on this week's Hot Digital Songs chart.

In its 15th week in Spain Thriller 25 falls 9 places to No.30.

On its 14 week on the global album chart, Thriller 25 rises 1 place selling 40,000 copies this week.

On the US Top 10 Catalog chart, Thriller 25 is No.1 and Number Ones rises 2 places to No.7.

The reason why we have to factor in 7.5% is because those worldwide sales figures come from mediatraffic who do sales counts that cover most of the major countries but they don't cover some territories in Africa, Asia, Middle East and South America. Hope this helps :).

So which of these stars has sold the most albums in the Nielsen/SoundScan era? That would be Madonna, who has sold 25,995,000 albums since 1991 (placing her #31 among all artists). It's a little early in the year to say this, but I'm really hoping that Sony push the album hard in the run up to the halloween period. It's the best time to capitalise on Thriller and it's a real shame they missed the oppurtunity last year. They could still do a TV special, loads of adverts, magazine covers etc. If Mike doesn't have his album ready and on the way to the shops by then he could also take part. Maybe with the help of Halloween the album will increase sales heavily and move the up the 2008 worldwide chart (it's bound to be much lower - perhaps out of the top 10 - by then). It would be great to see it finish the year within the top 10 sellers worldwide for 2008.

It's interesting to see that Number Ones is now selling more than T25.

I'm confused. According to the RIAA website, Alicia Keys has sold 3 mil copies of her latest CD As I Am. Yet your list only shows her at a little over 1 mil. Is it becuase your list only shows sales for 2008?

Sony refused to call the 2008 Album, 'Thriller', &

25', Sales or Chart Positions, to those of the
original 'Thriller' Album.

So The OCC do not add its Sales to 'Thriller. If
they did, 'Thriller' would now be in 7th place, in
the All Time UK Top 10 - with 3,836,058 Sales.

A PARTIAL UP-DATE - TO AUGUST 2008

In the latest 'Music Week', Alan Jones up-dates
the All Time UK Sales, of the Top 3 Albums. It is
not certain if he's up-dated them to the Chart
of W/E 9th August, or W/E 16th August.
Additionally, I have up-dated ABBA's figure, to
take in Sales to W/E 16th August.
The 2nd figure in Brackets, is how many the Top
4 have risen by since the November 2006 Top 100.

In UK album news as of this past Sunday September 7, 2008...........

Michael Jackson’s King Of Pop album suffers an 11.7% dip in sales to 22,852 but jumps 5-3. Its sales were subdued by competition from the new, triple CD release The Motown Years, which crams in 50 songs – one for every year of Jackson's life – and features both solo and Jackson Five material. It debuts at number 34 on sales of 4,570. King Of Pop UK sales to date are: 48,725 copies.

FYI: in the week of his birthday, a famous radio station played his songs every morning and gave away a king of pop ipod every day and on his b-day there was a 2 hour special from 8 pm to 10pm about michael jackson

1 day before MJs birthday, there was a movie theatre screening in vienna's biggest cinema, a lot of people attended. at MJs birthday, local radio stations played his songs.

as a side note, as we in austria also receive german tv-stations, they even played on mtv germany (yes, those full of hate-mtv people) a countdown of MJs best videos and of course, VIVA (mtv rival music tv station and long time fans of MJ) did so too.

plus there was a TV-special in the austrian tv, so enough promotion to guarantee MJ would enter at #1 two weeks ago and still is at #1 the second week in a row.

MJ only had 1 album so far that was at number 1, which was "bad", but i dont know if it entered at one or only was #1 for 1 week...because all his other albums entered at #2 or worse in austria. but "king of pop" seems to be a huge success for him in austria, 2 weeks #1 is just so great.

and of course, all haters (there are the usual ones in austria too) suddenly keep their mouths shut. ironically, now there's no news about michael being number one, or michael entering the charts at #1 two weeks ago. not even sony austria sent out a press release like they did when thriller 25 entered the charts at #5, which they called spectacular.

i dont really understand the world media's perception of MJ, and even sony's.

Michael Jackson's Thriller sold 31,000 copies last week and would have ranked #15 on the big chart if older, catalog albums were eligible to compete there. Instead, it jumps to #1 on the Catalog Albums chart. Thriller 25 topped the catalog chart for 10 weeks earlier this year. There are two principal editions of Thriller on Nielsen SoundScan's run-to-date chart. Added together, the album has sold 3,405,000 copies since 1991 (and of course tens of millions before that). The Halloween focus on the title track gave Thriller a boost. That song topped the 1 million mark in paid downloads this week. Its sales now stand at 1,019,000. A second song from the album, "Billie Jean," is also listed on Hot Digital Songs. It has sold 733,000 downloads.

It looks as though T25 might just stay within the top 10. Not bad for a 25 year old reissue.
Of course, it all depends on how the competition performs between now and Xmas, but there is quite a gap between E-mc2 and T25 and only a couple of weeks left. Fingers crossed.

Does somebody have updated figures for MJ albums in the US? And also worldwide for KOP & Thriller 25, this data can"t be taken from worldwidealbums.net anymore

Thriller 25 has sold between 2.4-2.5 million copies worldwide so far but its definitely going to increase this week with the huge hike in MJ's album sales being reported. As for King of Pop I'm not sure what the worldwide sales figures for that are but in the UK it has sold roughly 170,000 copies.

In the US Thriller has been certified as 28 times Platinum, however none of the other albums have been updated recently other than Number Ones which has sold over 1.7 million copies in the US.
