Oddly I don't see this posted anywhere here yet so I figured I would just go ahead.

I'm happy to see this celebration will be held for the third year but I doubt I will be going again unless it's held indoors with air conditioning or the temperature at the end of August miraculously happens to be under 80 degrees and not humid. I almost passed out last year from the intense heat, sun and humidity. I will be there in spirit.:)

It's Official: Spike is happy to announce that he will be hosting the 3rd Annual Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson Birthday Celebration on Saturday, August 27th this summer. Same place. Same time.

OMG you thought it was hot? I went last year, I don't know what the temperature was, but I thought the weather was great (FWY, where I live we normally hit triple digit temperatures...100-110 degrees farenheit).

I hope I can go again this year.

I know Katherine is a Witness and doesn't celebrate birthdays but my God she has done nothing for him but promote a book that she did with a porn producer. And his brothers aren't Witnesses why haven't they done anything for MJ?

Well spike knows how to organize something for free. The brothers do not have that type of mindset when it comes to Michael. They wait for others to do something. My sense of them is that they are interested in Michael in terms of family members benefiting actions, rather than Michael in terms of fans/legacy actions. Unless of course they could make a lot of money!!!!!!

Hehe! You don't understand. It could be 80 degrees and I feel like I'm gonna die from the heat. I am very heat sensitive. It's a miracle I made it to these celebrations the past 2 years. Anyone who knows me knows I hate warm weather, summer, heat and humidity. It's very uncharacteristic of me to go to these types of things. But I did it for Michael. Who knows. I might change my mind. I will never say never. But I did almost die, lol.

Well the answer is very simple : MONEY!! THEY'D DO ANYTHING FOR MONEY! And since this celebration brings no money, why bother. That is their sick mindset. Shame, shame.

I'm glad that Spike is continuing this event and am keeping my fingers crossed that people continue to support it in the kind of numbers Spike will need to keep going.
With so many MJ fans in the entertainment industry I am disappointed by how little has been done in tribute to MJ.
I know that celebs have tweeted often about their admiration for MJ, have said the same in interviews, have included small references to MJ in the music videos, have included MJ tributes in their concerts....actually that's quite a lot right there.
Anyway, what I have been holding out for is a proper high profile event.
Why hasn't there been a MJ tribute concert?? kinda like the legendary Freddie Mercury concert at Wembley. I'm sure I could list enough artists off the top of my head who I am sure would want to take part and would sell tickets by the stadium load. Lets think...Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliot, Jason Derulo, N.E.R.D, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, Akon, Kanye, Will.i.am (not sure if he would take part, but I hope he would), Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Far East Movement, JLS. From a UK perspective, these guys would sell large numbers of tickets and it's a much better list than anything Jermaine was planning to put together. They've had over 2 years and still nothing has been done.
Oh well, I wish I could attend Spike's party...

For the past couple of years, Spike Lee's production company 40 Acres and a Mule has been throwing a big free birthday party for the late Michael Jackson. The mural of Michael on 40 Acres' Fort Greene production office's garage door has been a popular photo spot for locals and tourists ever since it went up.

This past week, in preparation for their third annual party, 40 Acres unveiled a new Michael banner. Take a look after the jump.

The party will be in Prospect Park on August 27, two days before Jackson would turn 53 if he were still alive.

I'm sure Spike tried his best but since public transportation is being shut down around noon on Saturday that didn't leave much choice. I'm sure he will reschedule it for a better date.
