What MJ album(s) would you say had the highest expectations from people? I'd say that the Bad album probably had high expecation since it was the follow up to Thriller which is the biggest selling album of all time.

I agree with you about "Bad". Having to follow up a monster hit like "Thriller" must have been a heck of a lot of pressure for MJ at the time.
BAD would have HAD to have the highest expectation since it was the album after the LARGEST SELLING ALBUM OF ALL TIME..

i had to vote for bad because it had to follow up from an album like thriller, so the expectations had to be high after he just released the biggest selling album!

Def BAd..because it had 2 follow thriller..but dangerous was HIGHLY anticipating(remember the story about the briefcases and some guy trying 2 steal the albums)..and wasnt it like a year or 2 late?
After the mega succes of Thriller everyones expectations were sky high! The sky was the limit. :)
No doubt. Even though the pressure was high on HIStory after the stupid allegations in 93 that was something totally different.
The One.
06-06-2008, 11:34 AM
Bad it would be.. for the same reason that has already posted, because it followed the biggest selling album of all time, Thriller.

Every of his albums had high expectations because they are Michael's albums (and they were always late...). But, yeah, maybe Bad had the highest.

Every album of his has always been highly anticipated but I agree that Bad is the most anticipated. I would even call it the most anticipated album of all time  I remember reading somewhere that the night before Bad was officially released it made the top stories on all the news channels in the USA

No question: Bad
How do you follow up the biggest selling album of all time?!!!
Also Invincible...too bad it was cut short.
And his next album will have massive expectation too, after trial and all.

Ssssh; we don't want to put any more pressure on him than he already has, in case he might be reading this. :wild:

Blood On The Dance Floor was his last album before Invincible
That was a remix album with FIVE new songs. If we consider it that way, then his last album was NUMBER ONES with ONE MORE CHANCE.
But HISTORY had 15 NEW SONGS and 15 OLD SONGS!!! PLEASE PEOPLE DON'T BE SO IGNORANT!

HIStory because of the molestation accusations beforehand imo.

Shouldn't MJ's new album have low expectations from people though? Cause ever since the trial the media have been talking about ''the fall of Michael Jackson'' and how he's finished etc, and i've also heard people say that their having doubts about MJ's next album
This is great though because MJ have said that he works best when he's underestimated, so this next album could be one of his best and it will be a great way to shock all the doubters
I have voted for Dangerous :)

invincible. It was just 10 years later than his 'last' album dangerous.
u forgot HIStory.
Invincible was 6 years after his last album HIStory.
but i agree, i voted for Invincivle too.
i think it was expected to sell even more than Thriller. and ive heard that :heart:Michael expected it to sell more.
is it true?

Clearly Bad, for obvious reasons, but I voted for HIStory because it just seemed that there was so much hype about the album at the time, e.g. all the promotion work like the statues etc.
mistermaxxx
26-06-2008, 12:06 AM
bad of course because of how much the landscape and what MJ had created after thriller.
michaelsson
27-06-2008, 10:09 AM
Why the hell are people voting Invincible??? Bad was clearly the most to live upto and then HIStory had to prove itself after the 1993 crap, if Invincible had the highest expectation for an MJ album the it was an Epic Fail
Because invincible was highly anticipated, and was that a stab @ vince? i have no problems what so ever n gettin my bat. and it was not an epic fail. And DANGEROUS was the highest anticipated album who cares what yall say lol

"BAD"...
People of the World put so much pressure on Mr.Jackson to exceed "Thrillers" success even at the time "Bad" sold 18 million copies...this album by many was not considered a success.
However, if it were me, I would feel very proud of such an accomplishment..!

Bad for sure....
the album following the biggest success of all time has to have huge expectations... and I must say Michael delivered
The Moonwalker
12-07-2008, 01:55 AM
i'd say HIStory, because michael was already established as the king of pop after bad and dangerous and people wanted to see if he could still pull it off.
also after the jordi chandler stuff, all the non-fans and normal public would have been sceptical as to whether he could make good music still or not.
mjjlover1993
12-07-2008, 01:55 AM
i would have to say thriller and dangerous
Bad.
HIStory also but MJ already had lost a bit of his public at the time.
And the next album because people wonder if he still can sing.
So each time it's not for the same reason...

Think it's Bad and Invincible.
Bad was just after Thriller, while Invincible took like 7years. more anticipation thus higher expectation.

I'm not sure if any Artist will ever face the Pressure MJ did when he was making the 'Bad' album. Thriller is an impossible album to ever match.

17-07-2008, 05:19 AM
Thriller was a tough act for anyone to follow, even Michael himself. Can't get higher than number 1.
Expectations for Bad were definitely waaay too high. People weren't concentrating on the music, they just wanted to see if it could possibly outsell Thriller.
hotrod280

yeah it was the bad album, following up his greatest work had to have enormous expectations for it.

I vote Bad....
After Thriller....everyone in the world was waiting for Mike's comeback....
Bad is my favourite album....but I wasn't a fan at the time...I can only imagine all the expecatations from 1984 to 1987 for that album....

19-07-2008, 09:18 PM
Bad because came out after the huge success of the Thriller album and also because Michael was 30 at that time, he was more mature as a singer and the curiosity around him was really high.

Bad of Course!
MusicalPanda
21-07-2008, 12:25 AM
I voted Bad, HIStory, and Invincible. Bad came directly after the world's best selling album. I always thought of Bad as a sequel to a popular movie; it was good, but not like the original. HIStory was really hyped up, with the statues and everything. Invincible was the album that had entirely new material, something which MJ hadn't done since 1991's Dangerous. They are all still good albums, though.

23-07-2008, 11:47 AM
I would say BAD because it came out after the Thriller success and of course there was some pressure. But knowing Michael as a perfectionist I think that in all albums he put hard work and dedication...and he had high expectations from each...:)

I have voted for Dangerous :)
Dangerous?! (LOL)
Seriously, every Michael Jackson album post-Thriller, is heavily hyped. Putting unrealistic and sometimes downright impossible expectations on Michael. Every single one of them (Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, Invincible) is considered his "comeback" album. Including the next one (if it ever comes out). But if I had to chose just one, I'd go with Bad.
I wouldn't wish the type of pressure MJ was under at that time on anyone.
I'm shocked he didn't suffer a brain aneurysm.

Pretty much agree with the poll results so far:
1-BAD
After the huge historic success of "Thriller"... we just have too high expectations for Bad and that was not that good for the album at that moment though...
Then:
2-Invincible
After all "Invincible" had huge expectations too but for different reasons than Bad.

I would say Dangerous. After the giant public "break through" with Thriller with it's great songs and videos, and then the enormous success with all the number one singles from BAD and the knock out tour, the expectations for Dangerous was sky high.
I don't remember, had Thriller already broken the world record in sales by the time of the release of BAD?

And Invincible because it was first album of 2000s by Michael and first album since HIStory (BOTDF doesn't count).
