I think this is a very cool MJ song. When was it produced? Why didn't it get released? It's not on any album. Anyone else thing the beat is kinda like 2000 watts?
Also, the lyric. Without reading it, I don't have a chance understading what he says in the verses.
SHOUT
Verse
Ignorance of people purchasing diamonds and necklaces,
And barely able to keep the payments up on their lessons,
And enrolled in a class and don't know who the professor is,
How low people go for the dough and make a mess of things,
Kids are murdering other kids for the fun of it,
Instead of using their mind or their fist, they put a gun in it
Wanna be a part of a clique, don't know who's running it,
Tragedy on top of tragedy you know it's killing me.
So many people in agony, this shouldn't have to be,
Too busy focusing on ourselves and not His Majesty,
There has to be some type of change for this day and age,
We gotta rearrange and flip the page,
Living encaged like animals and cannibals,
Eating each other alive just to survive the nine to five,
Every single day is trouble while we struggle and strive
Peace of mind's so hard to find.
Chorus
I wanna shout, throw my hands up and shout
What's this madness all about
All this makes me wanna shout
You know it makes me wanna shout,
Throw my hands up and shout
What's this madness all about
All this makes me wanna shout, c'mon now
Verse 2
Problems, complications and accusations
Dividing the nations and races of empty faces
A war is taking place.
No substitution for restitution, the only solution for peace
Is increasing the height of your spirituality.
Masses of minds are shrouded, clouded visions
Deceptions and indecision, no faith or religion, how we're living.
The clock is ticking, the end is coming, there'll be no warning,
But we live to see the dawn.
Bridge
How can we preach, when all we make this world to be
Is a living hell torturing our minds.
We all must unite, to turn darkness to light,
And the love in our hearts will shine.
Verse 3
We're disconnected from love, we're disrespecting each other
Whatever happened to protecting each other
Poisoned your body and your soul for a minute of pleasure,
But the damage that you've done is gonna last forever.
Babies being born in the world already drug addicted and afflicted,
Family values are contradicted.
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust, the pressure is building and I've had enough.
Chorus...
What's your thoughts?
*if it is another thread about this song, then sorry. I tried earch two times, didn't find any, so don't flame me*
It was recorded during the Invincible sessions but never made it to the final tracklisting however it was released on the CD Single for 'Cry' along with Streetwalker in 2001.

SHOUT
Written by Michael with Edward Riley, Claude Forbes, Roy Hamilton,
Samuel Hoskins and Carmen Lampson, song originally scheduled to
feature on Michael’s INVINCIBLE album in 2001, before it was
replaced by You Are My Life.
B-side of Cry, released in December 2001 in the UK (no USA release),
and listed ahead of Cry and Streetwalker on the 12” single.
Version reportedly recorded by Backstreet boy, Nick Carter, for his
debut solo album NOW OR NEVER in 2002, but failed to make the
final selection. Bootleg versions of the Backstreet Boys performing the
song in concert have appeared on the internet.
Sampled by independent artist, Kameko, on Down And Out – a track
featured on his debut album, issued in 2006.
Also I have a version of this where MJ says shout at the beginning which is different to the other version that were released!

I JUST started listening to this song again. I have a newfound appreciation for it. It reminds me of Busta Rhymes the way Michael is just spitten those hot lyrics! My only wish is that the vocal was more isolated - it blends too much into the backing music and unless you have the lyrics you only catch bits and pieces because its so fast paced - but the vocals need a PUNCH up. I wish it was on instead of YOU ARE MY LIFE too (hurl!)

I love the lyrics for Shout, they are pretty much an accurate commentary on what is going on in society today.

Cry was actually released in the USA for a short period of time. It was sent to some radio stations but was pulled because 9/11 happened shortly after it and they didn't want to be seen as taking advantage of the situation with the song Cry. Cry was physically released in the USA on a 45 vinyl. I purchased a copy from Sony Music's website and I still have it.

Actually, Cry was released because of 9/11 originally. It was a sneak peek. It was the first track we got to hear from INVINCIBLE (apart from the single YRMW) before the album was released. Then after YRMW, CRY was a single for a short time but pulled because of the Tommy Mottola/Jackson feud atm. Michael didnt want CRY released as the next single but Mottola did (to let the singles from the album fail as sabbotage) and in turn Michael refused to appear in the video. Shortly after, Sony cancelled all promotions for Invincible.

i love this song :) somehow i love 3. vers most, there's something about the way his singing it. esp. these lines:
We're disconnected from love, we're disrespecting each other
Whatever happened to protecting each other
Poisoned your body and your soul for a minute of pleasure,
But the damage that you've done is gonna last forever.

Thanx for the answer. I never knew that.
For me, the "rap-singing" part is what makes the song a masterpiece. Just hearing got me feeling like I'm running fast to catch a bus-so intense:D And just as in his many other songs, the rhythm kicks ass!

Yeah, Cry was released right after 9/11, but wasn't played much on the radio after the first few days or so. If I remember correctly it was pulled because of fears they'd be seen as trying to capitalize on the moment.
Shout is really a great song. I loved it the first time I heard it and I've never stopped listening to it. Wonderful. I would gladly take Privacy off Invincible for Shout. Sorry, but I would. Shout & We've Had Enough should've been there, doggonit.
LOL, I'd never actually read the lyrics. It always sounded like "animals and cannibals - Satan!" to me, doh!

We've Had Enough also should have been on Invincible. It kind of frustrates me that some of the songs that didn't make the album are better than alot of songs that did make the album. Invincible is the only Michael Jackson album where i've heard the outtakes and thought ''Why wasn't that on the album?''

Totally, i love the vocals on we've had enough! this happens with a lot of artists who record b-sides, outtakes ,like classic suede, msp b-sides.
There were so many songs that should've been on 'Invincible', but I guess they sounded too 'real', too accute and pervasive to actually be 'radio-friendly', afterall, they chose 'You Rock My World', which, although it is a lovely lovely song, Michael wanted to release the 'Unbreakable' song, and, of course, he was denied the request. And many others followed, if not, many others preceded this tactic, that it wasn't any wonder it got boycotted. To think how many of these gems, not just from the Invincible era, but the leaked ones, for instance, could be a part of the 'Michael' album (although they could be released in the future, but there's still no excuse for it and many more off things)..But I'm not gonna touch on this tired topic again .. Wanted to make this point, though. ..

Idk, I tried to listen to it over and over again hoping that I would like it, but sorry I don't. I can't understand a word he is saying in most of the song, it is very frustrating. To me, one of the most enjoyable aspects of Michael's musical genius is that magical and brilliant voice of his, and his vocals are totally drowned out in this song. I can't sing along, arghhh. I do love the lyrics once I found them, but overall it is my least favorite MJ song, and I feel guilty saying that because overall I love the majority of his songs, some in Vince I don't care for too much, but still good songs, but this one I just don't care for at all.

I love this song! MJ can rap! the only problem i had with the song was that his vocals during the verse was too low.. You could barley hear him at times
Shout is a great song - but his voice should be mixed - or just turned up.
But great beat, angry vocals - amazing song. - But the vocals should be clearer.
AnnieRUOkay89
12-04-2011, 08:42 PM
Yea, the mixing on the song is really bad, surprisingly, considering Michael was here to overlook those things. He can be heard a lot better had his vocals been properly layered over the instrumentation. I like when he raps though, and he raps with conviction and meaning, which makes the song for me, the chorus is just..Meh.
