Downloading. I need some help.

My post/thread was deleted when the 2000 watts change went on and I don't know where I should put this.

I need some help with downloading as I am using a mac and the downloads up don't seem to work on my computer.

You mean you can't get to the link - or you donwload and then you can't get it open?

I can access the links etc and they download fine, but then they don't open in a viewable form..it's like the files aren't supported by my computer... :( thank you for replying!

let me know the answers to my questions above first and then we can see if there is anything further we can do to help.

^ No I don't have WinRaR. The ones I tried to play were .rar files. I do have something called divx converter? Anyway I got to this page: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm and I so have no idea what to do lol. Is everything on here to download a .rar file? Sorry if these are dumb questions!

For people that use a Mac, RAR Expander is the equivalent of WinRar and works well, download here (http://rarexpander.sourceforge.net/Downloads.html) click on the link that says "Click here to download the current stable version".

^ Thank you I downloaded that. So that means I can download rar files and they can be opened with that? What about the other file types, do I need separate things for all of them. So far I've just downloaded a few avi files which work already :)

Okay – so I presume you have installed the software.

This now means you can open/extract the rar files – basically RAR files are many smaller compressed files of larger file or files making them more manageable for downloading and sharing. RAR files are not watchable.

Once you have all applicable files downloaded then you are ready to open / extract them to the original file or files so they can be viewed.

Just make sure when downloaded your RAR files that you save them all the same file folder – to make it easier when extracting them.

A RAR file is a special computer file format that can store single or multiple documents and folders in a highly compressed form

Think of it like you have loads of bags you want to carry but there is too much to carry on there own so yu get a suit case and squeeze all the other bags into that one suit case then zip it up - now you got all those bags(in our case they are files) in 1 easy to carry case(Rar file) and they have become comressed - smaller in size

now what you need to do is unpack the rar file (suit case) and see what is inside it then you can see how to convert or burn that file onto a dvd

You can use winrar (http://www.rarlab.com) or as listed above to unpack the rar file

that is kind of a hard question to answer as there are so many options... and many different ways you can do that - simply explanation:

It really depends on what kind of file comes out of the "suitcase" as Motsey put it. As well if you are a Mac or a PC - I am gonna assume you are a PC and that you have a DVD burner in your PC

You can't change rar files... you just them like Motsey explaines above - so once you unpack everything it depends on what kinda of files are there.

If is an ISO file (an image file) - I think the easiest to use use PowerISO - you load the image and burn... done

but not too many use ISO anymore

chances are you are gonna end up with - AVI/MPG or with two folders with one being Audio and the Video (which will have all the files you need to load to burn) - Again, I really like to use iSofter DVD Ripper Platinum - it burns DVD files and converts AVI/MPGs easily to a DVD - it is especially good if you end up with a Region DVD you can't play on your DVD player - rather than spending the time to make it region free, you quickly convert it to an AVI and then burn it to DVD... it is really very versatile

but it is all personal preference - there are 100s of different burning / ripping software - just do a quick google search and you will see

the only thing I would really recommend - if you are not familiar with using them - make sure you buy the software - so you can get the right support and so that there are no little tweaks you need to fix

I'm downloading now, It's the history tour Brunei from the thread: (DVD) History World Tour Brunei (DVD 9) from Gladiator. (http://www.mjjcommunity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62766)

I'm now at part 11, so it will take a while before I have all the parts. When I have downloaded all, I will be more specific in what I don't get. That might be easier. And then I can't mess up allready :P
