Actually, when I progressed from Algebra to calculus, I found calculus much easier. I was surprised by that. But you must know algebra very well in order to do calculus. Ugh, I hope never to read a math formula again!

Ok, I have just about had it with algebra. My dilemma? Try to set up 3 equations for the following word problem:

A basketball team sells tickets that are $10, $20 and VIP tickets that are $30. The team has sold 524 tickets overall. The team sold 191 more $20 tickets than $10 tickets. The total sales were $9370. How many tickets of each kind have been sold?

I think I need to set up 3 equations:

a = $10 tickets
b = $20 tickets
c = VIP $30 tickets

a + b + c = 524
10a + 20b + 30c = 9370

I am lost as to the third equation. Is it "a + a + 191 + c = 524"? Help me. I am stuck on this one.

After I set these up I do the 6 step solving...but I just need help knowing what the 3 equations are.

Linda

I am personally buying you a six-pack, whoever can help me out with this first!! So I have 1/5 + 1/8 + 1/10 If I have to find a LCD I have 40 to be the LCD. Thats all I know so far.

The circle in the book says its 25 meters.

Ok this question for review is the square root of 45 and the instructions are to rewrite it in simplified radical form.

Please help!!!

This Is It!
07-01-2011, 04:16 PM
Never done this before, but I hope this is correct! ( \/ = square root ) …

\/45 = \/(9 * 5).

Since \/9 = 3, solution is 3\/(5) or 3 times square root of 5.

BillieJean84
07-01-2011, 04:45 PM
ok what if its something like this square root (theres no sq.rt sign) of 28 and it says to write in simplified radical form...

and this problem -((-1) ^ 2 -3) ^2 + 5*3

This Is It!
07-01-2011, 05:10 PM
Hope this is correct again! ...

\/(28) = \/(4 * 7).

Since \/(4) = 2, solution is 2\/(7) or 2 times square root of 7.

LindaC781
08-01-2011, 01:53 PM
This is serious. If anyone needs any extra help in algebra, on a pre-calculus level, you can email me. I will try to help you....just PM me and we'll talk ok?

And when you do email me, type it exactly like it appears in the book your using...it's hard to see superscripts here...maybe even scan it in so I can see what you are talking about. I am a very visual person...I need to see it exactly like it appears in the book...

Yes this is right. You need to break down the equation first into simpler forms, then solve.

If so, do the first parts first. -(-1)-2 is equal to -(-1/2) due to the negative sign on the superscript. Next, -1/2 * 3 equals -3/2. -( -3/2 ^2) equals -3^2/2^2 or -9/4. Next, 5*3 equals 15. Now put it all together, and you have -9/4 + 15 or -2.25 + 15. That turns out to be 12.75
