I forgot to mention now that I'm miserable and I don't wanna say this, but now my jealousy is getting worse and I'm getting very jealous towards most of you. I'm sorry, but I've been suffering jealousy all my life.

I don't know. I find it weird as well. I have no idea why can't they just email everyone an e-ticket. It would be the easiest solution. But it looks like you have to show up at the venue with a picture ID, a credit card you used to buy the tickets and a confirmation number to pick up your tickets.

....I told my boyfriend about this...talking about it so excitedly, and I said...we HAVE to go....why aren't you excited about this???? and he was like...'well, I'd be a lot more excited if it was actually Michael....'.... It was so hard to hear that, because in all my excitement, I didn't stop to think about that...Sorry to bring that up, but I just needed to get it out...

I know,my husband said the same thing as well, said it's not mj why are you excited.I told him I just want to have the concert feel with fellow MJ fans.he's not really intrested but I would be going with my daughter who is more than elated,She is just 5 years and looove mj with a passion.

I was on the phone with ticketmaster. They told me if this does well there will be more concerts added ...where is unknown right now. So don't give up.

I got my tickets ...feel a bit emotional ...as if this is a reincarnation of Michael or something. It's going to be phenomenal.

JMie
04-11-2010, 02:35 PM
As for me, I am happy and excited because it finally looks like Michael will get a proper tribute that will honour his vision and his talent. Instead of the countless attempts to make money off his name that we saw during the past year. This is finally something that will do him justice. A proper way to pay respects to him. And it's approved by the Estate. These are the reasons I am excited about this and why I don't want to miss it.

Of course, there's not a second when I don't think that Michael's not here with us. And it's painful and of course this show can't be compared to Michael's show. But... he's not with us... :( And this show is the best way to celebrate his legacy.

It's only for people with credit cards issued in the US or Canada. If it's issued somewhere else, you are considered an international customer and have to pick the tickets at the venue :(

I'd love to see this so bad but there's no way I can afford flying over to the States or Canada, and there's no way I can plan my life around a date so far in the future at the moment. Also, I would have to go alone and that would suck big time. So I guess I'll just have to wait until it comes over to Europe and that will probably take a long long time. A bummer in any way to me. But I'm happy for everyone who will be able to see this, I'm sure you'll have a blast!

I don't see the charge on my credit card statement. I remember I purchased the Opus in September 2009 through ticketmaster.com and I didn't see the charged amount until December 2009. Just wondering whether the charged amount for the tickets will show up in 2012 instead. May be it's a question worth asking for those who may not be able to pay for the tickets now. If they don't charge you until much later, you can order tickets now...

I'm pretty pissed its not coming to england though! whats that all about? i mean, i think mike made it pretty clear he had serious issues with america, yet they seem to be getting everything now. I fhe did like it, why was he doing his curtain call shows over here, aye? and why did the HIStory tour never even hit their shores, hmmmm?? cos he hated the place, thats why.

First of all it is coming to England and second of all that is completely uncalled for. No bashing of any country will be tolerated here so quit it now.

Normally theatres (at least the places where I have been) have a "will call" window where you can pick up pre-purchased tickets. This will probably be same.

Oh, no worries, it's really very easy.
You just have to make sure to arrive some minutes in advance and then go to the window or booth where they will give you your tickets, along with your receipt (at least that was the case when I booked using this for another show some time ago) and you just had to show your confirmation email and your ID card or, in this case, your passport (for I am an international customer).

But it's really very easy and the good thing is you can be sure you will not miss / forget your ticket... for the ticket will be waiting for you at the very venue!!

yeah just saw a clip about this on the news. love the idea of the giving tree. but this is so dam hard. hurts so much. dont know how to feel and when i saw the clip on the news it put a knot in my stomach.

Yes, it's very painful.
The whole situation is terrible painful. We can hardly escape the pain
But Cirque is royalty. There is simply no one better to do this.
I am glad Cirque is doing this, for they are the ones to do something this big, this beutiful, this exquisite and delicate, while still shocking and overwhelming. They are the ones.

Petrarose

^^Yes, I agree with you PCR. I know I am going to enjoy it, but at the same time there will be a feeling of longing, because we all wish he could be back. However, this group is the best to do this. No other group could do what they will give us. I feel there will be more happiness than sadness for us, but I will also walk with tissue. I know I would be looking more at Michael on that stage, and as Cherubim said Michael will be there. No way will this be going on and Michael's spirit will not float in to have a good look. He is smiling.

Thanks, Petrarose.
I know me. I will be crying all the way.
I have been to 2 Cirque shows and they are really very, very powerful. They shock you. They move you. They have you thinking, feeling love, tenderness, passion, pain and they also make you THINK. I think that is something very, very important about Cirque and it's show.
Yes, they are pretty expensive, but they are totally worth every second. They don't offer a show... they give us an experience. You actually live the show, get involved with it. It's very, very good. Last time (a few months ago), they really got me in tears and when I thought they will be doing that kind of wonderful masterpiece for Michael... I was totally overwhelmed.

This is really something amazing, people.

Sorry, but I am a fan of Cirque, as you can see :)

Me and my boyfriend are going to save up to go either to miami or new york in 2012 (that's enough time to save I think). What I think we might do though is book our tickets for the actual show soonish then do the saving for the flight/accommodation thing over a long period of time, that way we don't run the risk of the tickets being sold out and also if we ended up not being able to afford the flight and accommodation for whatever reason we could always then just sell our tickets.

I'm so glad that I took advantage of the pre-sale. I didn't even think about it. I knew I have to get tickets to at least one show. I just went to ticketmaster.com and checked ticket availability out of curiosity. The best tickets to the New York show on April 3rd are all gone. They added another show in New York on April 4th. But, it seems all the floor section tickets are not available anymore.

Tickets to these Cirque Du Soleil shows are going really fast... It's truly impressive. People are buying tickets for a show that takes place 18 months from now...

I have a ticket for the Los Angeles venue at the Staples Center 1-27-2012! Not VIP, but still $175 + fees. Hint: Go to the Staples Center to buy direct to avoid fees!

Hello, i read this forum all the time , even if do not post in here:)

just like to mention by reading the Forum Titel
"Michael and "THE IMMORTAL EXPERIENCE""

sounds like a magic trick, an illusion, somewhat of the likes of Houdini:)

I think the actual Happening is an PR-Stunt, distraction..

I don't get this ... Cirque de soleil are doing a show with Michael's music ... so what? I wish them luck with it, but I can't helping feeling that everyone wants to make their money now, one way or the other.

Could you please explain how it is possible to sell tickets without your presence? I bought ticket to LA show, and it was said that the only way to receive it is to come to the venue with credit card of purchase and a valid photo ID.

I'm now thinking of NY, but not sure ... If it is possible to sell tickets, I could buy ticket now and make decision later.

Yes, I agree with you. Although Cirque can do great things, I really wonder if this is necessary and respectful. Money is never a pure influence.

Cirque adds Jackson show

By KATHY RUMLESKI, The London Free Press

Last Updated: November 10, 2010 10:53am

Cirque du Soleil has added a second Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour show to its London stop next year.

The two performances are Oct. 18 and 19 at the John Labatt Centre.

Tickets for both shows are available now, said JLC marketing director Chris Campbell. The tickets are priced from $50 to $250 (plus applicable fees) and are available at johnlabattcentre.com or by calling 1-866-455-2849.

Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour is written and directed by Jamie King, who worked with Jackson in his early career. The show takes Jackson's moves and turns them upside down while 60 international artists perform to his music.

The show will be unveiled in Montreal on Oct. 2. London was one of only 30 cities chosen for the tour.

I hope they do an european tour.
I was in the "thriller live" musical and it was alot of fun. i've never been on real MJ concert, so this was the closest to me to get a concert feeling.

And this looks like it's going to be much cooler.

I was so glad to read that Jamie King, director of the show, was one of Michael's dancers and his body double on tour. It means he really knows him and was touched by his magic. And I am confident he'll do his best to keep Michael's magic in this show.

What, you mean he was that guy in the thriller mask on the Dangerous tour? or he is body double in this show?

He is good. he directed the last three tours of Madonna. And the Confessions Tour was awesome show. he did also many other cool things.

RL: So you feel Michael is the co-director and is already working alongside you?
JK: Yes, Robin, I don’t know if you know this, but he is the reason I do what I do. In 1992, I was the only male dancer picked to go on the Dangerous tour and work alongside with Michael Jackson for two years. The other three boys who had been there since the Bad tour, I was the new one who came in and auditioned and got the job. So I toured with Michael Jackson for two years. I danced alongside him. I worked alongside him. I was his body stand-in double. I’m doing now what I know he would approve.

I read the following small article in the (London, UK) Sunday Times Business pages, 14 Nov 2010 (p2 of the paper..e-version is behind a paywall I think)

'Cirque du Soleil, the live entertainment group, is plotting an ambitious expansion that could include establishing a permanent venue in London and finding new investors.
The acrobatic dance and performance show has appointed Allen and Co, a specialist media and entertainment adviser, to identify potential London sites. It will also look for fresh backers that can help fund new productions in New York and Los Angeles'.

Also, here is an article from a Sky News blog:

http://blogs.news.sky.com/kleinman/Post:2c540810-b0e2-4a52-85b3-f96f2aa3e0e2

Cirque du Soleil, the internationally-renowned touring circus, is hunting a permanent home in London as part of an expansion plan which could also see it recruit a new cash-rich investor.

I have learned that the company’s founder and majority shareholder, Guy Laliberte, has appointed Allen & Co, the specialist media and entertainment advisory firm, to identify prospective partners who could help establish a permanent residence for the acrobatic dance troupe-cum-circus in London.

Cirque du Soleil’s shows at the Royal Albert Hall have become a highlight in the capital’s entertainment calendar. The news that it has begun a search for a dedicated new home in the city underlines its long-term commercial ambitions.

I am also told that Allen & Co may have been given a broader mandate to identify potential new investors in the business, which I understand is keen to expand more aggressively into Asia.

There may be a willing seller of part of the company. Istithmar World, part of the Dubai World conglomerate that has been caught up in the Emirate’s financial woes, holds a 20 per cent stake in Cirque du Soleil alongside Nakheel, a Dubai property investor.

It’s understood that the Dubai shareholders cannot sell without Laliberte’s approval.

As part of the company’s expansion, Allen & Co has also been asked to find investors for a production fund to produce two new shows (Zarkana in New York and Iris in Los Angeles).

Cirque du Soleil has not only become a cultural success story, but a commercial one, too. It boasts annual revenue of well in excess of £350m and is valued by bankers at more than £1bn.

That’s a good thing when you consider that Laliberte has expensive hobbies (as well as being a generous donor to charitable causes): last year he paid £22m to travel into space on a Russian spacecraft. He founded Cirque du Soleil in 1984, when he was a stilt-walker on the streets of Montreal before busking in Hyde Park to make a living when he moved to London.

The company is now run day-to-day by Daniel Lamarre, a former television executive.

A Cirque du Soleil spokeswoman confirmed that Allen & Co’s was helping to identify a partner for a new London home but said she was not aware of any prospective ownership changes.

I realise that Cirque have several different shows running at once, but it would be nice to think that the 'Immortal' show might find a 'permanent' home in London, rather than just being a touring version.
I guess they will be planning long term. I wonder if any of the smaller ex-London Olympic venues might be suitable...just my thought.

My ticket arrive some weeks ago, and I am so afraid that I will accidentally throw it away before next December. I am very excited about this show.

Guys what does he mean by "he was a body double" on the show. I understand a body double for a movie, but why is it required on a STAGE during a live performance? Anyone knows.

to create an illusion so that the crowd are kept busy so he can get ready for the next thing. An example of this is when he is performing thriller, and the body double takes over wearing the werewolf mask

MJ was the master of illusions.

During HIStory tour a double is used in Thriller. MJ goes down, a double comes up looking like MJ with the werewoulf mask. - That way MJ has time to change for Beat It and get his breath.

MJ would NEVER be allowed to fly the rocket.

NO insurance company would have allowed it. And MJ himself, manager etc. would not allow it.

Even though MJ would have liked to try it was to dangerous.

And to answer your question - NO MJ never flew the Rocket Man himself. Not just once.

^^What wrong with the o2?? I mean, it annoys me how much Michael stuff they seem to be involved in now, as if they played a huge part in his career or something, but its a sick venue!! That said though, i didn't really like the fan day there, it was badly organised and lacked decent performers and video footage=(
I'd much prefer they do it at Wembley Arena, but the o2 has much more up-to-date technology.

Cirque expands Michael Jackson tour dates — more Las Vegas shows?

Cirque du Soleil and Michael Jackson's Immortal.

Rehearsals are underway for the Oct. 2 world premiere in Montreal (http://www.vegasdeluxe.com/blogs/luxe-life/2010/oct/20/exclusive-two-michael-jackson-cirque-shows-set-lv-/) of the Michael Jackson show Immortal from Cirque du Soleil. The first U.S. performance is in Detroit on Oct. 15. The theatrical company has now hit the 30-city mark for the tour, with dates extended to July 6, 2012, and more cities and venues being added -- and to the worldwide tour that will follow.
Interestingly, the Las Vegas dates -- Dec. 3-11 at Mandalay Bay Events Center twice nightly -- also are likely to be extended, I have learned. Cirque has kept dates open until a Dec. 30 series in Phoenix so that the moment tickets are sold out here, the additional Las Vegas dates can be added. Currently, the U.S. tour ends in Atlanta on June 29, 2012, before returning to Montreal on July 6 in advance of the overseas trips.

Award-winning director and choreographer Jamie King (http://www.vegasdeluxe.com/blogs/luxe-life/2010/nov/10/jamie-king-chats-about-cirques-michael-jackson-are/) is now in Montreal full time overseeing the rehearsals with Creation Director Chantal Tremblay, who worked on the original Cirque Las Vegas show Mystere at Treasure Island and then in 2006 as the creation director for The Beatles Love at The Mirage.
Jamie was Madonna’s creative director for 12 years and directed her Confessions (2006) and Sticky & Sweet (2008) world tours. Most recently, he directed Caesars Palace headliner Celine Dion’s Taking Chances World Tour and Rihanna’s Last Girl on Earth world tour.
I am reliably told that everything in this current preliminary timeline is on schedule and running smoothly without delays or production difficulties. Ticket sales have exceeded all projections (http://www.vegasdeluxe.com/blogs/luxe-life/2010/nov/03/photos-cirque-du-soleil-announces-michael-jacksons/) at this early date, and everybody connected with the production plans is “very happy with its development and progress.”
Robin Leach has been a journalist for more than 50 years and has spent the past decade giving readers the inside scoop on Las Vegas, the world’s premier platinum playground.

What wrong with the o2??nothing wrong with it per say but if you dont get the issue some have with going there to see this show when they should have been going there to actually see mj in the flesh then.... its pretty obvious. unfortunatly the 02 is the only decent modern arena in london so no doubt it will end up there ontop of the xtra promo it will get from the irony of the situation. if i do go see the show ill go to dublin/europe or somewhere nearer if its shown outside of london.i for one dont want to step foot in the 02 when the only other times i went there was for the press conference in march and what should have been opening night for the vigil.

Cirque du Soleil doesn't normally perform at arenas or stadiums. They always put up their own tents. I mean the touring shows of course, not the ones with Las Vegas residency.

That is VERY TRUE Jmie.

But in this case, I think they might bypass tents because the tour begin in October, when the cold weather starts.

That is VERY TRUE Jmie.

But in this case, I think they might bypass tents because the tour begin in October, when the cold weather starts.

They brought their show "Corteo" to Moscow in November/December and it was still in tents despite the cold weather. They have heating equipment, so cold weather is not a problem.

I think they will bypass tents during the US leg of the tour since there'll be only a couple of shows per city. But when they bring it to Europe, if they spend a month or two in each city, they'll probably put up tents.

I posted this in another thread, but I'll post it here as well. I hope someone can help me out -

I've had one horrible weekend trying to convince my parents to let me go...but they still won't budge. Money's not an issue at all, in fact they're ready to buy two tickets (they're saying I need an adult to take me, going with a friend won't work, they said it'd be just as dangerous/wreckless)...the only problem is that the center/auditorium it's being hosted at in my state is in the downtown area & they're saying it's too dangerous to go there at night...AGHH...so frustrating! Little tiny 10 year olds have gone there and and seen the Jonas Brothers, Bieber, Hannah Montana etc....but I can't go to see an MJ Cirque Du Soleil show?! DRIVES ME NUTS! On the off chance that they actually do let me go, I've been checking online to see what tickets are available, but it's not letting me do anything. It keeps saying "Sorry, no exact matches were found, but other tickets may still be available." Does that mean they're already sold out?!

Maybe I'm getting frustrated for no reason...Like is this show even worth going to? It's not MJ at all...it's just a bunch of circus people singing and dancing to his songs...right? Or are there people from TII coming too? What's so special about this tour?

Well, if you already have plan to go to Canada to visit your friend. Then, I guess it's worthwhile to get tickets to see the show. Why not? You will be there and seeing the show can be one of the attractions.

But, whether it's worthwhile to travel to Canada from UK just for the show? I don't know. It really depends on how you like Cirque Du Soleil.

Some of my friends really love Cirque show. I'm indifferent.

I think the show will definitely travel to Europe after its run in North America.

Have you tried inputting different searching criteria? Like different price range, differnent date?

Don't be frustrated yet! Seems like they are adding more shows now. May be you can still buy ticket when the show comes to your town. And, may be you can convince your parents to let you attend the show by then. :better:

As for whether it's worthwhile to go? I don't know. I got tickets. Of course I'm excited, but I'm not going to have unrealistic expectation. It's not a Michael Jackson concert (), the show is indeed a Cirque Du Soleil show with Michael Jackson theme.

I went on ahead and took a chance and bought tickets for $144 each.
Cirque Du Soleil shows are supposed to be really good, so I think it's save bet the MJ show will be good too. I just felt I would regret it if I didn't go to this.

Not a dumb question at all. I was confused by the seating chart myself. I saw a drop down menu with many options, from Alicia Keys concert to Ringling Brothers Circus. I didn't go by that seating chart. When I bought my tickets through ticketmaster.com, I let it search for the best ticket available. I ended up getting tickets for the floor section, section C, row 3.

MANDALAY BAY TO HOST ‘PERMANENT’ MICHAEL JACKSON SITE

Cirque du Soleil, Mandalay Bay and the estate of Michael Jackson announced Wednesday that “an unparalleled and extensive relationship” will be unveiled at a press conference next Wednesday.

“A permanent celebration to The King of Pop in Las Vegas” will be announced, according to a press release.

The three parties announced last November that “The Immortal” world tour would include a Dec. 3-11 engagement at Mandalay Bay.

Wednesday’s press conference will open with comments from Jerry Nadel, Cirque’s senior vice president of resident shows division before a panel of four representatives fields media questions.

The tour will begin in Montreal in October 2011 and travel to select North American cities for the first leg.

It is anticipated the rest of the schedule and other cities will be announced Wednesday, along with details of the “permanent relationship” with Mandalay Bay.

Announcement Coming:

Cirque confirms Michael Jackson show to debut at Mandalay Bay in 2013

Cirque du Soleil executives confirmed last night that the second and permanent Michael Jackson residency show — its eighth Strip production — will open at Mandalay Bay in 2013. The ambitious project has the full blessing and support of the executors of The King of Pop’s estate, and the news confirms the world exclusive VegasDeLuxe.com story revealed here Oct. 20 about the alliance and the two megabucks shows.

It also spells the end of Disney’s beautiful and spectacular The Lion King at Mandalay Bay. Cirque and Mandalay officials will formally announce details next Wednesday in a panel discussion with Jerry Nadal, the senior VP of Cirque’s resident shows division in Las Vegas.

I’m reliably told that The Lion King will cease performances by the end of the year. Currently, tickets are on sale through Sept. 8. Work on reconstructing and redesigning the theater to be renamed in Michael’s honor would begin by next January for the 2013 premiere.

The new “permanent celebration” of Michael’s genius will follow the Immortal world tour rock concert arena show that opens this fall. The two-year global jaunt kicks off in Montreal on Oct. 2 with its world premiere, and then arrives at Mandalay Bay Events Center for a 33-concert schedule Dec. 3-27. Dates to an initial eight-night run were added due to extraordinary ticket demand.

Details will be revealed next week, along with a presentation on the new show by writer, director and choreographer Jamie King, Cirque CEO Daniel Lamarre, Mandalay Bay President Chuck Bowling and Michael’s estate executor (and former lawyer) John Branca. VegasDeLuxe.com posted an interview with Jamie last Nov. 10 on the projects and his plans for the touring production.

None of this is new to VegasDeLuxe.com readers, who first learned about the “unparalleled and extensive relationship” of Michael’s estate lawyers, Cirque and Mandalay Bay in our exclusive interview with Daniel. I talked at length with Daniel after the 8,000th performance of Mystere at Phil Ruffin’s Treasure Island last fall. Here’s our conversation about the two new King of Pop shows, plus a few updates.

Robin Leach: Now comes Michael Jackson — two Michael Jackson shows. The first show is the one coming to Mandalay Bay for a little while before going out on tour.

Daniel Lamarre: I think the arena show will be a good test for us. The first show opens Dec. 15, 2011. The second show will be at the beginning of 2013. The first arena show will globally tour in North America for two years and then as it leaves to go onto Europe and the rest of the world, we will open the permanent show here.

RL: How different will that show be to the arena touring show?

DL: The arena touring show is as close as you can get to a rock concert. Our audiences will have the feeling that Michael Jackson is alive. The permanent show will be much more theatrical. We are looking right now at a lot of new technology that we want to bring into Vegas for the first time.

Michael Jackson – from YouTube.com

RL: How far along in the development of both shows are you at this moment?

DL: For the arena show, we are done. The concept exists. It is approved by all parties. Rehearsals started December in Montreal, so we are really there already for the arena show. For the permanent show, we’re still exploring the new technologies that we would like to bring to Vegas. The preliminary concept exists for the theatrical show, but depending on how far we can go with new technologies, that will influence the final concept of the second show.

RL: Now when we talked about that several months ago, I sensed it would be 3D on steroids, where the audience gets inside as the show wraps all around outside them?

DL: Yes, that’s right. We really want to use the newest, latest of breakthrough technologies that have never been seen before or used theatrically before. There are a lot of conversations going on with a lot of different companies to see who can deliver to us the advanced technology that we’re looking for.

RL: Now that the concert show is 100 percent concept completed, is it with a Michael Jackson or without?

DL: Michael Jackson will be there on video, and then again we will bring in technologies that will make it seem that Michael is with us.

RL: But no lookalikes or soundalikes?

DL: People want to see the real Michael, and the real Michael will be very, very present on the unique video. His estate administrators have completely accepted the concept of the show, which is a great relief for us. Not only are we happy they have accepted it, but we’re happy they’re enthusiastic about the concept of the show. It will be a 90-minute show with all of his big hits, over 20 of the bestselling songs. The show will have about 72 artists: dancers, musicians and acrobats.

RL: Anything in this first show that Michael was developing for his London This Is It concerts?

DL: We have some video that was for the London show that will be integrated into the new show.

RL: What will we be amazed by most?

DL: I think the challenge here is to give the feeling to people that Michael is on that stage. We will do everything we can in terms of video and technologies to bring his presence to life.

RL: Did you learn anything from presenting Viva Elvis to tackle the Michael Jackson shows?

DL: If you take Love or Elvis, the challenge is always to be representative of that era. Obviously, Michael is from a different era than Elvis, and we have to make sure that if Michael were onstage, that’s what he would deliver. It will be him as he would be today.”

Daniel also revealed some of the details of Immortal.

DL: We have two shows a night to sell out for two months at 8,000 seats each performance. That’s the challenge. We’re cutting the number of seats down because we want to keep the proximity for the audience to the stage. This is going to be just like a real rock and roll tour. Dozens of trucks — well over 30 — with staging and equipment will arrive in Las Vegas exactly as it will be when we go off around the world. Two years touring in North America and then another two years of global capitals. A monumental four-year world tour! It’s a huge challenge — the largest we have ever undertaken, but we’re very excited about it.

RL: I always have to ask the money questions. What will be the cost of both shows?

DL: We’re talking close to $100 million for the two shows — that’s just for the production. Then the cost of the theaters for both shows will add another $100 million to $150 million.

We’ll report directly from next week’s presentation for updates to all of the above, plus the breaking news.

Robin Leach has been a journalist for more than 50 years and has spent the past decade giving readers the inside scoop on Las Vegas, the world’s premier platinum playground.

Q: How would 3D Technology in live shows look like?

Let’s look at the show we’re developing right now for Michael Jackson. As you know, Michael had a huge visual component in his shows, so just imagine a trapeze artist right in front of you, but behind her there are some 3D special effects that will merge with her performance, and give a lot of depth to what she’s doing. Maybe you have one trapeze which is live, and maybe you have 1,000 trapezes behind her in 3D. So that’s what I mean by merging the 3D technology with the live performance, and that’s what we’re exploring now.

Q: Cirque du Soleil is going through some big transformations, adding different kinds of shows. What do you think Cirque du Soleil will be like in three years or five years? Will we recognize it?

When I joined the Cirque 10 years ago, we had four touring shows and three permanent shows. Today we have 10 permanent shows, nine touring shows, and we’re adding three more touring shows in the next few months, so next year, we’ll have 22 shows. We said to ourselves, we’ll do content diversification, and we did that with shows like the Beatles show and the Elvis show, and now the two Michael Jackson shows–one touring and one permanent. We also did a cabaret show with “Zumanity”, and an epic show with “Ka”, and a magic show with Chriss Angel. So we diversified the content. And with the Elvis, Michael Jackson, and Beatles shows, we created a new category of show, a hybrid between a musical and a Cirque show, and I think there is still potential for us to grow that segment with other famous artists’ catalogues.

Q: I read that Cirque du Soleil brought in US$800 million in revenue last year, and you’re hoping for US$1 billion this year. Is that right?

Yes. And I think the three new shows might change our life, because if they’re successful, just adding one permanent show, like Los Angeles, if it’s successful, it would change our profitability. And Michael Jackson, I just don’t know how great it’s going to be, but we sold 200,000 tickets in 24 hours, so it’s an amazing success ahead of us. And each individual show can change our life dramatically.

Cirque CEO Daniel Lamarre talks Las Vegas, MGM and Michael Jackson
By Robin Leach

The Michael Jackson: Immortal World Tour by Cirque du Soleil four-part interview series began Monday with John Branca, co-executor of The Estate of Michael Jackson, followed by Jackie Jackson, older brother of Michael, and Mandalay Bay President Chuck Bowling on Tuesday and writer, director and choreographer Jamie King yesterday.

The interviews wrap up today with Cirque CEO Daniel Lamarre’s overview of Immortal, which arrives at Mandalay Bay on Dec. 3 for a now-33-performance engagement.

Here is Daniel’s overview in his own words.

Michael Jackson has been very, very generous to Cirque du Soleil. He saw all of our shows, and he would always say good things about Cirque du Soleil. Having the credibility of an amazing artist like that certainly has contributed to our success. But I will never forget the one day that Michael came to our studios in Montreal. Our 5,000 employees were thrilled to host him, and today I have the feeling that all of Cirque du Soleil wants to pay tribute to Michael as Mandalay Bay becomes the home of Michael Jackson in many, many ways.

First our new arena tour starts in December. It will be on tour in North America for two years, and as it goes off on the global leg, we will open the permanent show at Mandalay Bay in early 2013. We are going to put a lot of effort to bring to life a tribute to Michael Jackson with a lot of new technologies that will be involved in the new theater. But that alone is not good enough.

We thought that people would want to see more of Michael, and we are developing an event that is going to be called The Michael Jackson All Access. We are right now exploring all of that with Ubisoft. Their creation of the Michael Jackson interactive dance game has had an amazing success, selling millions and millions. They’re going to be our interactive partner in this new experience.

Photo: Darrin Bush/Las Vegas News Bureau

Daniel Lamarre, president and CEO of Cirque du Soleil; Chuck Bowling, president and COO of Mandalay Bay; Jackie Jackson, brother of Michael Jackson; John Branca, co-executor of The Michael Jackson Estate; and Jamie King, writer and director of Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour, at Mandalay Bay on April 27, 2011.

We’re also going to have in December at Mandalay Bay a Michael Jackson Fan Festival in conjunction with the Immortal Tour. It will allow the fan to really have the opportunity to go behind the scenes of the show itself. We’re also going to have a Michael Jackson Lounge. So all those elements of content will ensure that his presence is very well recognized. He is the No. 1 personality, so we don’t want to disappoint all those fans who are going to come from all over the world to see the Michael Jackson experience.

We have been blessed during all these years to have this amazing Las Vegas partnership with MGM, and now again Cirque De Soleil has the opportunity to realize a new dream. To have the privilege to work with the Michael Jackson Estate is also amazing. This project would have not been possible without the great collaboration of MGM, particularly Chuck Bowling and his Mandalay Bay team -- a very dynamic organization. The co-executors of the Michael Jackson Estate have allowed us to develop in a very short period of time a lot of partnerships on all fronts in order not only to pay tribute to this great, great artist but also to meet the expectations of all Michael’s fans.

The touring show will be the closest you can get to a rock concert. The permanent show will be much more intimate, with a lot of new technologies and effects to immerse people in his world. We will also have the interactive zone, where we would like to re-create the spirit of Neverland there. A fan in the interactive experience could actually dance to “Thriller” with Michael in the same video.

We’re experimenting with everything possible interactive and 3D. Ubisoft has sold millions of videos of Michael, and we know that people want to dance to his music. That’s what we will deliver in the dream Michael Jackson environment. Our ultimate goal is to give you the full sense and feel of what Neverland was.

Photo: Luxor

Criss Angel and Daniel Lamarre at the Luxor in 2008.

We don’t know quite yet know where the M.J. Zone will be located in Mandalay Bay, but the show itself will definitely go into The Lion King theater with an early 2013 premiere. We’re going to refurbish the theater quite a bit. MGM and ourselves are going to invest in that, which will take some time. We are designing right now.

The Lion King will end Dec. 30, and then we just walk in the theater the next day and start. Our experience is that it always takes 18 to 24 months to make it happen, and later when the designs are completed, we can set the premiere date. But it will still have 1,800 seats and two shows nightly.

We won’t be able to bring the touring show back to Mandalay Bay, as we have requests from promoters all over the world, and we want to give fans around the world the opportunity to see that show. In North America, I think two years will be the ultimate run because when the permanent show opens, I want the permanent show to become the exclusive show in North America.

The arena show will go off to Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and beyond and will probably run five years! The logistics of it are crazy. We have to hire engineers to make sure the roof of all the arenas can sustain the weight of the equipment we’re shipping in 25 amazing trucks. The cast will fly from city to city while the trucks move by road and ship.

After the North-America-Tour. I think and hope Europe will be the next stattion after the North-America-Tour. So we must wait until 2013, perhaps end of 2012.

San Antonio included on Michael Jackson Immortal Tour

San Antonio Business Journal - by W. Scott Bailey
Date: Monday, June 6, 2011, 4:32pm CDT

Officials with AT&T Center say Cirque Du Soleil’s Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour will make a stop at the home of the San Antonio Spurs on June 23, 2012.

The production, which is tied to the Estate of Michael Jackson, will incorporate Cirque du Soleil performances.

Promoters say it will give fans a “unique view into the spirit, passion and heart of the artistic genius who forever transformed global pop culture.”

Tickets for the show will go on sale on Monday.

They will range in price from $50 to $250.

The tour will capture the music and lyrics of a pop icon who died in June 2009 as he was preparing for a musical comeback. It will feature some 60 international performers.

The tour is scheduled to open Oct. 2 in Canada. The first U.S. tour date is slated for Nov. 9 in Seattle. The show is expected to make stops in Houston on Feb. 10 and in Austin on June 15.

Cirque du Soleil is based in Canada. Its entertainers have performed in front of more than 100 million spectators in more than 300 cities on five different continents.

Who won the tickets from the banner contest we had here a while back?

And what's the best place to buy tickets?
