Today in Michael Jackson History February 17th

HISTORICAL DATES

1972 Michael's cover version of 'Rockin' Robin' was released as the second single from his 1972 first solo album titled 'Got to Be There'. I was a cover of a Bobby Day song released in 1958, the year Michael was born. The song hadn't originally been scheduled as a single, and it was only after radio DJ's started playing the song, that Motown decided to release it as the second single. The B-side was 'Love Is Here and Now You're Gone', a cover from The Supremes' number 1 hit. 'Rockin' Robin' was the biggest hit from the album, peaking at number two on the Hot 100 and R&B charts.

1979 'Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)' hits the Pop singles chart peaking at number 7 and remains on the charts for twenty-two weeks. The song was co-written by Michael and Randy, and it was released as the second single from the Jacksons 12th studio album, 'Destiny', and became a signature tune of the disco age. It was the most successful single from 'Destiny', which helped to re-established them as a top-selling group. The dance song peaked at number 3 on the black singles chart.

1983 Michael is on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine With exclusive photo and an interview by Gerri Hirchey.

1992 Michael is on the cover of JET magazine along with Eddie Murphy and Iman to promote his 'Remember The Time" Short film.

2007 Leonard Rowe, Janet, Rebbie, Jermaine, Marlon, Jackie and Tito, visit Michael, unannounced at this Las Vegas home to ask him to reunite with The Jacksons and tour America, which he refuses. Leonard Rowe stated in his book about the event: "I told him that we want him to reunite with his brothers and tour in America. Michael said ; I just can't right now. I have other things I am planning and working on. We stayed there for a few hours trying to persuade him. I could tell that Michael was becoming irritable so we decided to leave"

2007- Michael Jackson, Will I Am and Chris Tucker attend a performance of Prince at his club 3121 in Las Vegas.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

" You give people some love and some bliss and some escapism
and show that you truly care from the heart, be there for them.
Not just from a distance, but show you really care. You be there for
them. And that’s what I did. It’s an important thing
.”

I feel bad that Michael was bothered like that from his family. When did they ever just hang out and do something fun? Always wanting something from him instead.

Prince likes to Shake your Body to the Ground doesn't he?

When I read the part about Leonard asking him to tour with the brothers, I had to laugh. He could tell that Michael was getting irritable? Well at least he admits it.

Hearing about Shake Your body brings back some happy memories of dancing.
