Sam Smith: "I don't like Michael Jackson"

Looks like Sam Smith is another arrogant prick. Don't know why some fans feel the need to jump to his defense. Sure, he can give his opinion. Was he asked though? Can you imagine the outrage if some musician/singer said they didn't like Steivie Wonder, the Beatles, Bowie etc.?

Nobody needs to be asked for their opinion, that's the power of free speech.

Anyone can share their views with anyone, asked or not. Deal with it.

To be fair no one asked us our opinions about Sam smith yet we're giving it right? And were saying alot more than he did... that would make us bigger pr!cks.. and size does matter

Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones put down The Beatles, David Bowie, and many other performers over the years. Keith even wrote an autobiography a few years ago and talked about different artists. John Lennon once said Mick Jagger did "fag dancing". Boy George said Whitney Houston was a "rude cow". Gene Simmons & Ted Nugent has said all kinds of things about different people. Gene even had a negative comment about Kurt Cobain's suicide. Elton John said he would not pay money to see a Janet Jackson or Madonna concert because they lip-sync and also called Madonna a stripper. There's a singer named Mojo Nixon who made a song called Don Henley Must Die and Neil Young released This Note's For You which made fun of artists making commercials for soda & beer. There's a new Whitney Houston documentary where there's a clip from the early 1990s of her basically saying Paula Abdul can't sing and Whitney's mother Cissy talking about Janet Jackson. Also look at all of the rap beefs over the years. I don't think people made as big of a deal about any of that than people in this thread about a pretty mild comment about not liking Michael Jackson's music.

Such negative public comments (between singers) are indeed a pretty common phenomenon in music industry.

But, there is also a slightly different (but still equally negative) attitude from singers towards other singers when they publicly pretend to not know them.

For example, there is Mariah Carey’s characteristic attitude of publicly pretending to not know certain famous, female singers (such as, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, or even Jennifer Lopez).

Lil’ Kim uses that approach, too (when, for example, she pretended to not know Nicki Minaj).

But when Michael didnt know Mike tyson in his prime.. he really didnt know him..

And lets not forget how Michael has said about people like madonna.. he did that knowing he was being recorded too.

What Sam Smith said about MJ is nothing compared to the vile stuff Richard Marx has been saying today,....here is a sample :wtf2:

No question he was one of the most talented humans in history but...did everyone posting “happy birthday” tributes to Michael Jackson just conveniently forget he paid millions to kids who claimed he molested them? #askingformyself
— Richard Marx (@richardmarx) August 30, 2018

The classic "you're too blinded by your idol to see the truth" argument. Yawn.

Adam Lambert Defends Sam Smith for Saying He Doesn't Like Michael Jackson: 'Give Him a Break'

Adam Lambert is setting the record straight about that viral video he accidentally posted in which Sam Smith said he doesn’t like the King of Pop.

Earlier this month, Smith and Lambert were boating with friends near Catalina, California, when the American Idol alum, 36, unintentionally shared a clip in which the 26-year-old “Stay With Me” singer said: “I don’t like Michael Jackson, but [‘Human Nature’] is a good song.”

Lambert removed the video from Instagram, but it was saved and re-shared online, and Smith immediately caught flak.

Now, Lambert exclusively tells PEOPLE the post was an honest mistake — and that Smith’s comments were taken out of context.

“We had been out at sea all day! We had had some champagne! I got home, and I was like, ‘I wanna post a picture of my new Gucci sunglasses!’ So I had my phone on mute because I wasn’t thinking. And I was looking through video, and I see a cute one of me in the sunglasses, and ‘Oh, there’s Sam, okay I’ll post it!’ I did not listen to the video,” says Lambert, who will front Queen during the band’s upcoming “Crown Jewels” residency in Las Vegas.

The “If I Had You” singer says by the time he noticed the contents of the video, it was too late.

“I had a friend with me who went, ‘Oh, this is a cute video,’ and he played it and showed it to me, and I heard Sam … a segment of a conversation we were having,” Lambert says. “I went, ‘Ooh, that doesn’t sound right out of context; I’m gonna take this down.'”

Adds the singer of Smith: “The poor guy — now people are jumpin’ all over him! And it’s like, look: The guy is entitled to his opinion. And also: It was a sliver of a fuller conversation that was actually quite interesting. I think people need to give him a break.”

After the fallout, Lambert reached out to his pal, who immediately accepted his apology.

“He’s so cool and down to earth, like, ‘It’s not a big deal, whatever!'” Lambert says of Smith. “Hats off to him. He’s not bothered.”

.... Richard ....????? WHO?

People like him, living in some cult-like religious bs... have always something to hide in their own dark life and accuse the others...

I said in an earlier post, that Lambert needed to explain..He's done so,so moving on....

Can we have the Richard Marx posts moved?
So we can throw stones at him there plz?

wtf? who cares? It's not a rule to like MJ.. I don't like many artists.. so ?

No offense, but how does not liking Michael Jackson make him an "arrogant prick."?

Michael didn't like Madonna, yet millions love her, does that make Michael a prick?

Why should there be outrage over him saying he doesn't like any of those artist? IF you were to ask any other common person what they thought, you'd have a variety of answers, all which would be more easily accepted.

We've got to start learning that not everyone has to adore Michael or see him the same way fans do. Sam Smith is a very talented musical artist and to that, his credited is due.

And, what I saw was a video of 10-15 seconds.. It was not smart for a celebrity, because he should know this would go viral, but he could have meant it in more ways than we are suggesting right now. I don't like (all of) his songs, but he's a talented singer.

The video was posted accidentally. He thought it was a photo he was posting.

This is really not a big deal. We all have family, friends, or co workers that dont care for mike.. that doesnt make anyone prickish

Agree. He can dislike MJ, and I can dislike him. All's good.

I have relatives that don't listen to secular music at all, only gospel. So Mike is not someone they would listen to in the first place. They don't allow non gospel music to be played in their homes. Some only listen to traditional church music & spirituals, not stuff like Kirk Franklin or trap gospel or gospel rap. I know other people who mostly listen to jazz or blues or reggae or other less mainstream music. There's also the goth people who listen to The Cure or Bauhaus. So not everybody even listens to the style of music Mike makes

I've read that many people have downplayed Sam's achievements, but in reality, Sam is quite famous. He might not be as popular as Adele, Ed Sheeran or Bruno Mars, but he is quite a household name in different countries.

I think Sam dislikes Michael's persona than his music. He likes Human Nature, and on a previous post, You Rock My World. Of course, he has the right to dislike or dislike any artist since that's his preference and I don't think he needs to be crucified for it, however reading Stephanie's aggressive response to Sam made me think that it came from another place (not really entirely about Michael).

sure, that's true. The music closest to my heart are the old big band/swing/ American jazz standards. A lot of people like music that doesn't fall in a genre that Michael excelled in.
Sam Smith happens to be a "blue eyed pop soul singer", so it made it shocking and that's why it went viral.

He's arrogant because he casually said he didn't like michael jackson while hanging out? He wasn't giving a formal interview...
Cringe.

But it wasn't him was it?
Lambert filmed himself in sunglasses, without realising Sam Smith, came out with the comment then deleted the video off.
By then,it was too late, and the storm had already raged on social media
