Originally posted by amit1234@Dec 12 2003, 08:25 AM Hey RastaPasta - Since single sales in the US have generally been low for awhile, the chart placement of "One More Chance" on the U.S. single sales chart isn't as relevant as it once was. That doesn't mean it's not an accomplishment, however, considering the general climate, single sales aren't regarded as being as important as they once were. Album sales are generally the barometer record companies have been using to measure an artist's success. Although 'Number Ones' is off to a slower start in the U.S. than overseas, I think it will fair just fine in the long run once/if this mess is resolved.
thank for the info, Amit. I appreciate that.
Sony/ATV, a joint venture between Sony Corp (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) and pop star Michael Jackson, expects more music catalogues to be put up for sale this year as people look to cash in profits in a slowing economy, said CEO Martin Bandier in a telephone interview.
"To the extent that large acquisitions become available, Sony/ATV is in a particularly good place," he said. "It's hard to overpay for a great Picasso...if you're buying quality music that will last for generations. Great songs are a rarity."
Sony/ATV is a traditional music publisher which makes money every time a piece of music is used on a variety of outlets including radio, movies, live performances, advertising as well as a share from recorded music sales. http://blogs.reuters.com/mediafile/2...gital-beatles/ Reuter, 17 Apr 2008
Michael P. Schulhof, president and CEO, Sony Corporation of America, said: "Michael Jackson is not only the most successful entertainer in history; he is also an astute businessman. Michael understands the importance of copyrights and the role they play in the introduction of new technologies. In joining us for this new venture, Michael recognizes Sony's leadership in developing and realizing new technologies that serve to expand the creative horizons of artists such as himself.
He added, "To have Michael Jack son's song catalogues joined with ours will enable both Sony Music and Michael Jackson to aggressively build on a publishing portfolio filled with songs that are acknowledged as the cornerstones of popular music today."

Your 'Number Ones' information has been added to the thread.
I'm thinking of compiling chart stats for "OMC" around the world (if so, your info will be included as well).
The only reason I haven't done so is because 'Number Ones' seems to be a better barometer of Michael's performance on the music charts. "OMC" didn't receive the proper singles treatment (promotion, video, live performance, etc.) therefore, I don't think the song's chart performance really matters. However, I do know many would like the information for future reference so I think I'll compile it in the future at some point.

Last week, the chart-topping Michael Jackson album Number Ones remained at the No. 3 spot in the UK, making it the fourth week the album has been in the album charts within the top three!
Sales last week increased with a massive 165,000 copies sold, and sales are expected to explode once again this week!
Also, after already becoming Platinum in the UK with over 300,000 copies sold, Number Ones has also become Platinum in Australia with well over 70,000 copies of the album sold.
Sales of Number Ones have exceeded expectations around the globe!
