The Random Everyday Stories That Prove Michael Is A Legend

We all know that Michael did most things on a grand scale. He achieved incredible feats, set records. He is loved by millions. For all those reasons he is a legend.

But he is also a legend on the simple, every day scale too. We all have stories about family, friends or complete strangers who say or do something that makes you realise 'OMG, Michael is so powerful!'

This thread is about sharing those stories.

It could be about the old woman you saw moonwalking down the street or your sister suddenly being obsessed with all things MJ. The only criteria is that has to be your personal experience.

I'll go first to get the ball rolling!

My stuff will be all over the place cause I am typing it as stuff comes to mind, so bear with me!

The other day I found our local newspaper for the day after the memorial service and featured pics of the people who had gone to the Kensington Oval to watch the memorial on the big screen. Kensington Oval is the biggest 'arena' we have. It hosted the cricket World Cup final 2007. It was so amazing to me that Michael's memorial would be shown there. Not even Princess Di's funeral was broadcast there.

Which brings to mind the day that Michael was acquitted. It was the lead story on the local news. It took up a good 10 minutes of the programme. In comparison, the day that Clinton was impeached, there was a brief mention in the international news segment!

On a happier note, Speechless was a big hit in Barbados. I would hear the song at LEAST 3 times a day! People would be humming on the street. A friend of mine accosted me, exclaiming "Michael Jackson is practising mind control! Every time I turn around I can hear people singing that song!" I smiled sweetly and said "Well, when you got the gift ..." A few days I was in a shoe store and the song came on and EVERYONE started singing it. It was beautiful.

A few years I was in a department store and I noticed that one of the tvs was showing Michael's 88 Grammy performance. So of course I went to watch. Some minutes later a couple of young men joined me and I braced myself for the barrage of negative comments. When it was finished one of them said 'that man so tight!' with great admiration in his voice. His friend nodded in agreement. I just smiled.

People standing around watching Michael seems to be a thing in Barbados. An evening in the mall I noticed a crowd of people hovering outside a store. They were all staring raptly at something. Being nosey I went to check it out. They were watching Moonwalker. No one moved. More people joined the crowd until the corridor was completely blocked! They all just stood there until it was finished.

Some time later I noticed another crowd watching raptly outside of a store in our capital city. Went and checked it out again and sure enough they were showing Michael. It was the MSG 30th anniversary performance. As soon as it was done, a performance of Usher at some award show came on and the crowd dispersed. LOL!

Stay tuned for more (I got lots to share) ...

LOL. Yes, it was broadcast at the Oval! There were pictures of people crying and holding banners. It was not something I expected in Barbados - since that is not our culture.

Isn't quite a story and I don't know even if it fits in this thread but I wanted to share it with you because it makes me smile every day.

I work in a office with another 2 colleagues. All of my colleagues know my passion for Michael and they understand me but they don't share my love for him, or if they do they wouldn't recognize it.Why do I say this?I listen to Michael quite a lot every day and not on my headphones but loud on my computer's speakers.I am the boss and they can't complain .Although they're sometimes kidding complaining about the torture of hearing Michael everyday. But one day, in the silence of the office, I thought I hear Michael's music.Where did it come from, I wondered?I looked at my colleague and i saw that she had the headphones on and I could clearly hear Hollywood Tonight. She palyed it 4 times on a row.And then This Is It, and then The Way You Make Me Feel .
I didn't say a word, but from that day on I payed attention every time she had the headphones on and she listens Michael every dayI couldn't be happier.

I will never say a word to her about it.I know she would never admit that she likes Mike A LOT.But I know she does and that makes me happy.

I was quite impressed with what happened on June 26, 2009 near the American embassy in Moscow. There were a lot of flowers and MJ pictures left there, and all sorts of people came to pay respects. Young people, old people, parents with children, grandparents with grandchildren. You could see a man in a suit (obviously from the office) going by and leaving a flower. A goth girl in a black gothic dress sitting on the sidewalk with a black ribbon as an armband on her arm. It just proved that Michael touched everyone. No matter how old you where, what kind of music you liked or what kind of lifestyle you lead, you knew him and felt the loss.

Also I remember his both visits in Moscow were, like, national events. Of course in those years we didn't have as many gigs of foreign rock stars as we do now, but still. Everyone knew he was coming, it was on the news, on the streets - everywhere. A few years ago there was a historic documentary that listed most important country events year by year, and MJ's visit was there among the president election, economic crisis, etc.

I loved it when they ran This Is It on national TV last June. My dad watched it for the first time then and was very impressed He is into rock music, but when he saw the movie, he said, "Wow, he was incredible, he was a legend".

I think what proved to me most is when I talked to my 5 year old cousin at the time and a MJ song came on from my phone, and I asked her if she knew who it was and she did! She could barely speak, yet she knew of Michael Jackson and his music, that's all I will ever need to see/hear to believe MJ is a legend and always will be!

    Wonderful stories though
    Michael is indeed MAGIC
I mean I spend a day at the hospital again with yet another painful test but I didn't mind as I knew once I'm out... I can pop in my headphones and let Michael 'choo' away the pain I endured... You should have seen the HUGE smile on my face
NO OTHER MUSIC OR ARTIST CAN HAVE THAT AFFECT ON ME... Only MAGICAL MICHAEL... Thanks sweetie

I thoroughly enjoy going to weddings these days because it is absolutely inevitable that happy, drunk people shimmy away the night- and they usually really get going as soon as the first bars of Michael's music emerges from the speakers.

People's face light up and anybody, from the happy couple, to kids is suddenly running to that dancefloor.

MJ seems to be part of Northern American wedding culture- and you can almost always bet that Michael will be played in any kind of celebration. Happy people dancing off the wall- it's a lovely sight and I dance away with a fat grin on my face.

    gorgeous stories guys.

went to a mj tribute concert with an mj impersonator a couple of months ago. was expecting a tiny crowd and couldnt believe my eyes when the whole venue was full. i thought the mj-obsession had died down in australia but i couldnt believe how everyone was dancing throughout the show. i loved it when people were shouting out 'i love u michael' even tho we all knew it wasnt mj. the best part came when the impersonater was singing 'i'll be there'. then he bent down and pretended to cry like mj would do. A little kid in the front jumps up and screams 'dont cry michael'. everyone laughed. so sweet

also one of my relatives was getting married in another state. we didnt go but we saw the wedding video. the groom was a huge mj fan and each invitation had a little sign with mj's feet and it said 'LIVE ON' next to it. at the wedding reception, each of the best men were introduced into the room wearing one glove and doing a trademark mj move. was awesome.

I am currently producing a play at my alma mater.

The cast is mainly made up of teenagers and they had to work on some original choreography. As soon as we said they had to create their own dance, one of them launched into a Michael Jackson routine (requisite 'he he' and 'ooh'). There was crotch grabbing and moonwalking.

Another teenager started singing "who's bad" and another declared "this is Thriller!"

Let me be clear, I never mentioned my love for Michael, so I did not influence them in any way. But I guess when young people thing dance, they think Michael!
