The Random Everyday Stories That Prove Michael Is A Legend

We all know that Michael did most things on a grand scale. He achieved incredible feats, set records. He is loved by millions. For all those reasons he is a legend.

But he is also a legend on the simple, every day scale too. We all have stories about family, friends or complete strangers who say or do something that makes you realise 'OMG, Michael is so powerful!'

This thread is about sharing those stories.

It could be about the old woman you saw moonwalking down the street or your sister suddenly being obsessed with all things MJ. The only criteria is that has to be your personal experience.

I'll go first to get the ball rolling!

My stuff will be all over the place cause I am typing it as stuff comes to mind, so bear with me!

The other day I found our local newspaper for the day after the memorial service and featured pics of the people who had gone to the Kensington Oval to watch the memorial on the big screen. Kensington Oval is the biggest 'arena' we have. It hosted the cricket World Cup final 2007. It was so amazing to me that Michael's memorial would be shown there. Not even Princess Di's funeral was broadcast there.

Which brings to mind the day that Michael was acquitted. It was the lead story on the local news. It took up a good 10 minutes of the programme. In comparison, the day that Clinton was impeached, there was a brief mention in the international news segment!

On a happier note, Speechless was a big hit in Barbados. I would hear the song at LEAST 3 times a day! People would be humming on the street. A friend of mine accosted me, exclaiming "Michael Jackson is practising mind control! Every time I turn around I can hear people singing that song!" I smiled sweetly and said "Well, when you got the gift ..." A few days I was in a shoe store and the song came on and EVERYONE started singing it. It was beautiful.

A few years I was in a department store and I noticed that one of the tvs was showing Michael's 88 Grammy performance. So of course I went to watch. Some minutes later a couple of young men joined me and I braced myself for the barrage of negative comments. When it was finished one of them said 'that man so tight!' with great admiration in his voice. His friend nodded in agreement. I just smiled.

People standing around watching Michael seems to be a thing in Barbados. An evening in the mall I noticed a crowd of people hovering outside a store. They were all staring raptly at something. Being nosey I went to check it out. They were watching Moonwalker. No one moved. More people joined the crowd until the corridor was completely blocked! They all just stood there until it was finished.

Some time later I noticed another crowd watching raptly outside of a store in our capital city. Went and checked it out again and sure enough they were showing Michael. It was the MSG 30th anniversary performance. As soon as it was done, a performance of Usher at some award show came on and the crowd dispersed. LOL!

Stay tuned for more (I got lots to share) ...

Kensington Oval ??? Many a times my mom ditched high school to watch huge cricket games there.

LOL. Yes, it was broadcast at the Oval! There were pictures of people crying and holding banners. It was not something I expected in Barbados - since that is not our culture.

Isn't quite a story and I don't know even if it fits in this thread but I wanted to share it with you because it makes me smile every day.

I work in a office with another 2 colleagues. All of my colleagues know my passion for Michael and they understand me but they don't share my love for him, or if they do they wouldn't recognize it.Why do I say this?I listen to Michael quite a lot every day and not on my headphones but loud on my computer's speakers.I am the boss and they can't complain :giggle:.Although they're sometimes kidding complaining about the torture of hearing Michael everyday. But one day, in the silence of the office, I thought I hear Michael's music.Where did it come from, I wondered?I looked at my colleague and i saw that she had the headphones on and I could clearly hear Hollywood Tonight. She palyed it 4 times on a row.And then This Is It, and then The Way You Make Me Feel :girl_happy:.
I didn't say a word, but from that day on I payed attention every time she had the headphones on and she listens Michael every day:)I couldn't be happier.

I will never say a word to her about it.I know she would never admit that she likes Mike A LOT.But I know she does and that makes me happy.

I was quite impressed with what happened on June 26, 2009 near the American embassy in Moscow. There were a lot of flowers and MJ pictures left there, and all sorts of people came to pay respects. Young people, old people, parents with children, grandparents with grandchildren. You could see a man in a suit (obviously from the office) going by and leaving a flower. A goth girl in a black gothic dress sitting on the sidewalk with a black ribbon as an armband on her arm. It just proved that Michael touched everyone. No matter how old you where, what kind of music you liked or what kind of lifestyle you lead, you knew him and felt the loss.

Also I remember his both visits in Moscow were, like, national events. Of course in those years we didn't have as many gigs of foreign rock stars as we do now, but still. Everyone knew he was coming, it was on the news, on the streets - everywhere. A few years ago there was a historic documentary that listed most important country events year by year, and MJ's visit was there among the president election, economic crisis, etc.

I loved it when they ran This Is It on national TV last June. My dad watched it for the first time then and was very impressed :) He is into rock music, but when he saw the movie, he said, "Wow, he was incredible, he was a legend".

I think what proved to me most is when I talked to my 5 year old cousin at the time and a MJ song came on from my phone, and I asked her if she knew who it was and she did! She could barely speak, yet she knew of Michael Jackson and his music, that's all I will ever need to see/hear to believe MJ is a legend and always will be!

^^^^A friend of mine has a little girl, 3 years old.If he wants her to stay quiet he puts on the dvd with DT live from Bucharest .She doesn't want to watch cartoons though :)

 I was like that when I was a child, but I used to watch the HIStory tour in Munich or Ghosts lol.

Wonderful stories though :D
Michael is indeed MAGIC :p
I mean I spend a day at the hospital again with yet another painful test but I didn't mind as I knew once I'm out... I can pop in my headphones and let Michael 'choo' away the pain I endured... You should have seen the HUGE smile on my face :D
NO OTHER MUSIC OR ARTIST CAN HAVE THAT AFFECT ON ME... Only MAGICAL MICHAEL... Thanks sweetie

I thoroughly enjoy going to weddings these days because it is absolutely inevitable that happy, drunk people shimmy away the night- and they usually really get going as soon as the first bars of Michael's music emerges from the speakers.

People's face light up and anybody, from the happy couple, to kids is suddenly running to that dancefloor.

MJ seems to be part of Northern American wedding culture- and you can almost always bet that Michael will be played in any kind of celebration. Happy people dancing off the wall- it's a lovely sight and I dance away with a fat grin on my face.

gorgeous stories guys.

went to a mj tribute concert with an mj impersonator a couple of months ago. was expecting a tiny crowd and couldnt believe my eyes when the whole venue was full. i thought the mj-obsession had died down in australia but i couldnt believe how everyone was dancing throughout the show. i loved it when people were shouting out 'i love u michael' even tho we all knew it wasnt mj. the best part came when the impersonater was singing 'i'll be there'. then he bent down and pretended to cry like mj would do. A little kid in the front jumps up and screams 'dont cry michael'. everyone laughed. so sweet

also one of my relatives was getting married in another state. we didnt go but we saw the wedding video. the groom was a huge mj fan and each invitation had a little sign with mj's feet and it said 'LIVE ON' next to it. at the wedding reception, each of the best men were introduced into the room wearing one glove and doing a trademark mj move. was awesome.

you sound like the most awesome boss ever!

I am currently producing a play at my alma mater.

The cast is mainly made up of teenagers and they had to work on some original choreography. As soon as we said they had to create their own dance, one of them launched into a Michael Jackson routine (requisite 'he he' and 'ooh'). There was crotch grabbing and moonwalking.

Another teenager started singing "who's bad" and another declared "this is Thriller!"

Let me be clear, I never mentioned my love for Michael, so I did not influence them in any way. But I guess when young people thing dance, they think Michael!

wow this is a great thread,,thank you all so much for sharing your stories.

At the school where I work, senior high did an entire show dedicated to Michael back in summer 2010. They were all dressed up in MJ clothing doing choreographies based on a medley from Michael's songs. The audience was in standing ovation..It was amazing to see the impact he has on every generation. Even my parents--well into their 70s--asked me to get them one of his cds for their music collection.

MUSICIAN HERO: MICHAEL J. JACKSON
by Azin from Paradise Valley

I think a hero is someone who takes a big step or a risk in their life. I think a hero is someone who donates money, food, toys, and water for people who need it. I think a hero is someone who is a positive citizen, caring, trustworthy, nonviolent, and respectful. I think a hero is someone who is helpful, responsible, fair, brave, and wise. I think a hero is someone who is considerate, who has courage and is peaceful. I think a hero is someone who risks his or her life. I think a hero is someone for how they have helped the world.

My hero is Michael J. Jackson. Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana to an African-American working-class family. Michael was in the Jackson 5 and made many songs such as “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” and “I'll Be There”. The Jackson 5 got so popular that they had their own self-titled cartoon show which ran from 1971-1973. As Michael got older he became a solo artist and made many songs such as “ Don't Stop Till' You Get Enough” “ Rock With You” and “ She's Out of My Life”. In 1982 Michael made his famous album Thriller which generated seven top ten hits. In the album Thriller there were songs such as “ Billie Jean” “Thriller” and “Beat It.” In “Billie Jean” Michael made a famous dance move called the “Moonwalk”. Thriller won twelve Grammy Awards. Some of Michael's most famous songs were, “ We Are The World” “Bad” and “ The Way You Make Me Feel”.

Michael Jackson's change of skin tone was because he had a sickness called Vitiligo. Michael designed and owned an amusement park called Neverland, which also had a zoo in it. Michael also made songs called “History,” “You are not alone” and “Scream”. Music and Me” “Forever, Michael”.

Michael Jackson, one of the most popular artists of all time, died suddenly from cardiac arrest on June 25,2009 in Los Angles just before the concert series. He was only 50 years old.

Michael had done many things such as saving children's lives. He saved children's lives by giving them food, water, and toys. That's why he was respectful and caring. Michael was peaceful because he helped save the lives of many people in the world, especially Africa. Michael is trustworthy because he took people all over the world. Michael is brave because he sang in front of thousands of people almost everyday in his life. Michael is wise because he made wise choices in his songs. Michael was helpful to his children by giving them a good education. Michael was responsible because he kept track of when anything special was going to happen. Michael was considerate because he said “God Bless You” to everyone who was kind to him. Michael did many more kind things but those were just some.

Michael Jackson is very important to me. He is important because he inspires people - especially me! Other people he inspired and helped were children in hospitals. Michael has made a difference in my life because of his music. It has inspired me to take hip-hop classes and help other people. He's also made a difference in my life because he saved people's lives and that makes me really happy. Michael Jackson is an amazing person and no one can replace him. I wish he was still alive.

I was watching a UNCF Tribute to Lionel Ritchie and I am not sorry to say that the ONLY part that made me sit up and take notice was when they honoured Michael and they said something I didn't know..:wild: Here it is and I hope this informs other Fans like it did me :clapping:

The Article

In 1985, Michael Jackson co-wrote the humanitarian anthem "We Are The World" with his good friend, Lionel Richie. The single was performed by an all-star group of artists and upon release it became the biggest-selling single ever. More than 20 million copies sold worldwide generated over $63 million for aid in Africa and the U.S. — demonstrating to the world "what is possible" when people come together to support and care for others.

Michael Jackson's passing brought global attention to his powerful legacy of music, memories, and spirit of giving. It is a fact he supported more charities than any other celebrity during his lifetime, leading Congress to recognize his contributions in a Congressional Declaration.

Michael was also a generous supporter of UNCF and its students. He donated $1.2 million to UNCF from proceeds of his concert tour and gifted UNCF with a special benefit performance at Madison Square Garden. He also gave UNCF an endowed scholarship worth $1.5 million which has resulted in more than 500 students attending UNCF colleges and universities.

The Clip from the Tribute from UNCF of Michael Jackson Honored - 2010 "An Evening of Stars"

In 1986: Michael set up the “Michael Jackson UNCF Endowed Scholarship Fund”. This $1.5 million fund is aimed towards students majoring in performance art and communications, with money given each year to students attending a UNCF member college or university. From 1985 to 1990, Jackson donated $500,000 to the United Negro College Fund.

Michael Jackson is honored in a special segment recalling the King of Pop’s generosity and foresight through endowing a UNCF scholarship in his name that continues to provide aid more than 20 years later.

Today, Michael Jackson's endowment remains intact. For years to come, students will continue going to college on Michael Jackson Scholarships. His gift is one that truly keeps giving and now, UNCF invites you to help carry the torch for a new generation of Americans by making a donation to UNCF. Your generosity will help provide a college education for students who seek a life of success and service that benefits us all.

Making a donation is easy! Just click on "Star Power" and let your donation make a difference in the world. Then, watch "An Evening of Stars" Tribute to Lionel Richie in January 2010 and witness our gratitude and appreciation for Michael Jackson during a very special tribute.

Michael Jackson taught us how to "Moonwalk" — and he also taught us how to "give" and "lead" by example. Please join us by following in his footsteps, and make a donation to UNCF. Thank you for your support!

Michael Jackson : The Film Director We Never Knew..
By Iain Alexander 25 June 2012

Michael Jackson Film Director Ambitions
Michael Jackson was a prolific artist who pushed the boundaries of motion picture storytelling in music videos.

His concepts were whacky, out of the ordinary, and certainly drew attention. From his choice of casting to the way he directed, Michael Jackson loved being in front, and behind the camera.

Although we remember Michael Jackson for his musical career his behind the scenes, off camera desires were also well known, and had room to develop. It is not impossible to have imagined Michael Jackson today taking the cinematic root with his music. Indeed, music video documentaries and even films are still a ‘new format’. No one has really captured music video filmmaking to the point where we can go into a cinema and watch a 2-hour music only film. Yes musicals exist, but music video stories do not. They still belong to the web, but don’t have a place in the cinema. I hope it can change, because music can open the mind to stories words can’t tell. At least on a day like today, 3 years on from the death of
Michael Jackson, we can look forward to a future where music video storytelling is on the rise.

Michael Jackson attended funeral of a baby thrown off bridge. Michael was a GREAT human being !

In 1995, a tragedy happened in LA where a mother throws her children off a bridge, 1 of them surviving and 1 dying. Michael was torn by this tragedy and offered to console the family and pay for their loss. While the PRESS LIED like always and said that Michael only gave $5000 to the family, he actually gave $50.000 and thats just for the start. Michael initially did not want to attend the funeral but according to Randy Taraborrelli, Lisa Marie convinced him to attend because his celebrity status shouldnt keep him away from his feelings.

Last night I went to a "Back In Time" party where they only play music from the 50s to the 80s. There were 2 deejays and Michael was the only artist who had more than one song featured for each dj. One asked 'who here loves Michael Jackson' and the whole place screamed. The other dj declared "you can't just play one MJ song!"

It was terrific!!

  TCO that is an awesome experience often the only reason I go to a club is to have that MICHAEL MOMENT in a crowd it is very transcending feeling! What is even SWEETER in your moment, is that you shared your Michael moment with all of US

Well, just a little story - or a thing I've noticed that surprised me pleasantly. I went to see Thriller Live in Zürich. Until then I didn't see the Swiss as beeing big Michael fans or I didn't know they were so much into his music...But let me tell you this: it turned out that the show was sold-out. There were people of the most different ages and backgrounds (from little kids to 80-year-olds) and they were all enjoying it, clapping and even dancing (that's a big thing here, where people don't usually dance).

Michael is never forgotten on his birthday in Barbados. Even before he died radio deejays would play his music all day. This does not happen with other artists to same degree.

This year was no different - some tributes even continued on the weekend, with dee-jays having 1/2 hour jam sessions or presenting documentaries with audio clips and such.

And on Saturday, I was watching Hollywood Game Night. In the final round the contestant has 90 seconds to guess the names of 10 celebrities, based on clues given by another celebrity. Anyway, Janet's name came up as a celebrity and David Guintoli (from Grimm) gave the clue - Michael's sister - and the contestant got it straight away. For me it is interesting that after all Janet has achieved, she can be distilled to one thing - Michael Jackson's sister!
