I really liked it. But Joe Vogel just tweeted that he gets some interesting emails/messages about this recent interview.

I haven't looked on twitter what kind of negativity he's receiving. Pointless negativity would be sad. People fact checking would be normal. The problem with anything MJ related is that especially fans are so extremely burned by any book in which authors have written down 'what someone told them' as fact- which is one of the reasons for the caution that many MJ fans exhibit. Having said that, there's always a way to politely discuss any subject.

I sure would hope this thread wouldn't fall under negativity since all questions asked seem to be valid and asked with thought behind it, thanking him for his efforts.

I almost don't want to look at twitter for fear it's people talking out of their behinds.

And why are people critisicing Vogel? Did he say something wrong or disrespectfull against MJ?

I wonder if that's certain people who view anything that doesn't come from the family as evil blood money greed coming forth from the Estate yadda yadda yadda- I have read such sentiments, as if no one unassociated with Michael has any right to write a book about him.

One person seriously tweeted him if he thinks Michael Jackson is truly dead- that is when you wanna say, I'm sorry you have to deal with that nonsense, unfortunately it comes with the territory.

Ooh! My question was #1! I am SO EXCITED about this book from reading the "Earth Song" piece and his answers here. I truly hope the book gets the attention it deserves!

Someone above mentioned the published music differing from the actual performance. I think MOST published versions of popular music ARE dumbed down and made more accessible for the general sheet-music-buying public--a limited group. Some rhythms are difficult to notate exactly as performed, just as in folk music. Whenever ethnomusicologists try to notate the aural traditions of various cultures, they NEVER are able to capture it exactly in western notation. I think the same goes for pop music. Some things just can't be captured in a score--the magic of slight syncopations, etc.

Wow there is no reason for Joe or his integrity to be attcked and Im very sad to hear ANY MJ fan would do that

MJ fans should approach him respectfully if they have any questions or concerns. The work he is doign for Michael
is GREAT asset for MJs legacy and Joe is not the enemy - I just cant wrap my head around what fans do sometimes

Yeah, that's why I assumed the Alfred publishing score was dumbed down for public consumption. I wasn't even going into the rhythms- sometimes buying a score is so d*mn disappointing- and I am really not talking about syncopations of a live performance, I really mean basic harmonies.

I do notice the difference between classic music and the way publishing houses feel it's okay to sell the public 'half a score' when it comes to contemporary pop music, if you will. Try selling the public a Schubert and Schumann score that is missing half of the harmonies in the piano section- you'd have "riots".

Joe Vogel did an exhaustive study of Michael's solo work over a five year span. He spoke to Michael's peers who worked with
him on each and every album and single. Other than Michael himself, those are the sources that should be consulted. This book and Joe's integrity are far and away the best thing that could happen for Michael and his legacy. It's in the music, folks, and that is exactly what Joe addresses. I left this site some months ago because of the negativity I found here in great abundance. I can tell you first hand that Joe's research on Michael's work is first rate, his book is wonderful and negativity has no business being directed there. Done with that. Pfft.

No idea. Some fans are able to find something negative in unimaginable places.
I can't wait to read the book actually.
