Michael Jackson's Tiger Dies of Lung Cancer

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Thriller, a tiger that belonged to Michael Jackson when the entertainer lived at Neverland, has died of lung cancer at Tippi Hedren's wildlife preserve near Los Angeles.

Hedren says the 13-year-old, 375-pound tiger died June 11. An autopsy was performed and the tiger was cremated.

Hedren says Thriller and brother Sabu were born in 1998 and lived with Jackson until 2006 when Jackson left Neverland. Jackson's veterinarian asked Hedren to take the cats at her Shambala Preserve in Acton. She says a $79,000 compound was built on a lake and Thriller had a great life with Sabu.

Despite Jackson's love of animals, Hedren says he never called to check on the tigers and never sent any money to help pay for their care.

Why should he visit and if it was sent there to live on a preserve he does not have to pay for its upkeep. All the animals had to leave because Michael left there. If it was me, I would not visit all the animals either. He had more things on his mind at that time.

If this comment was not made by Tippi and is only an editing ploy, then she needs to clear this up quickly. Owners do not pay for animals after they go into a shelter or preserve. If they did, then what is the point of sending them there?

I am sorry but I have to say that is so really rude of Tippy, real bitter it sounds like coming from her, almost resentment ! That what Michael didn't call her ? Why does she not mention the MONEY she alone recieved from the MJ Fans and Tourists that came to see them not her ? Why does she not mention that Michael's tigers paid for their own stay, ever since they've been there? What about the $1.8 million dollars from Michael's "Thriller Jacket" that went to her ?? Not a word about that huh Tippy ??

Wow she used to be a polite person !! How dare she bad mouth Michael AGAIN , on the 3 year anniversary !! I cannot believe she turned the painful death of Thriller into an opportunity to say something negative about Michael !! I used to respect her, that is over !!

The autographed jacket Jackson wore in the Thriller video will be auctioned this weekend at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles. The donation to the big cat sanctuary is fitting as two of the late Jackson’s tigers (Sabu and Thriller) reside there.

Hedren, a longtime animal activist, told the Globe, “We could really use the money. Michael’s two Bengal tigers came to us in 2006 when he left his Neverland Ranch, and the up keep for them and the rest of the animals is very expensive. It costs $75,000 a month to keep Shambala operational, which includes caring for the compound and the best food and medical care for the (big) cats.”

Experts at Julien’s Auctions anticipate the Thriller jacket to fetch one million dollars, but as the representative says, “The sky’s the limit.”

I'm sorry to hear what happened to Thriller the tiger. But why should Michael have had to send money for the tigers' care when they no longer belonged to him? At some point Michael had to let them go. Obviously, the place they were taken to had a good amount of money coming in to deal with taking care of them for the last six years. Otherwise, the animals would have been shipped to another wildlife preserve facility a long time ago.

I found Tippi's comment rather insensitive. Didn't she know that she got the Tigers after Michael went through the trial of the century and was totally broken man after the trial. He had to do what he had to do in order to make himself better, so he left the country to heal himself:-( She got the Tigers in 2006, Michael lived only 3 years after that

True. Very insensitive. Michael's animals lost their home- neverland because of that painful and humiliating memories of the awful trial Michael tried to forget and recover.

I would really like to know has anyone, anywhere ever heard Tippy thank Michael for the money we all know she DID receive from Michael's Thriller Jacket Auction in 2011 ?? Atleast we know that before the 2nd anniversary of Michael's passing she finally got the money she wanted from him

I don't like the way Tippi Hedren is criticizing Michael now. Has she forgotten why he originally had to give them up in the first place? The trial was hell, he left the country, he was financially gutted, etc. And now she is criticizing him for not continuing on giving them money. WTH? That's why he had to give them up in the first place. He felt he had to flee Neverland (and this country, BTW). His financial situation was reportedly in a bad state. And why would Michael feel compelled to go back and visit the tigers when that would be so painful for him??? Has she even though about that either. Apparently not!

And now she is not even acknowledging the gift of funds from this auction of the Thriller jacket.

I'm sorry, but she really offends me now. And I emailed her and asked her about her comments too (in a very nice way, of course, because her sanctuary provides a much needed place for the animals). But it's my understanding the reason the cats go there are for the very reasons that Michael sent them there in the first place. The owner can no longer care for them for various reasons. If Michael was still happily in Neverland and that freakin' trial never took place, the tigers would still be at Neverland.

^^This. QFT. She tells what excellent condition the tigers arrived in at her sanctuary as most animals that wound up there come from backgrounds of neglect and abuse. Michael's tigers, as all other animals he had, were well looked after and that speaks more of him and his compassion for animals than her comment on him not being available - financially or otherwise once he gave them up.

He gave them up at the worst period of his life. At that point he gave up the life he had known until then; he left the US, left Neverland behind and became a virtual recluse. Know one, other than him will ever know the trauma he suffered during this period. She ought to keep this in mind and cut him some slack.
