Selena Quintanilla-Pérez (April 16, 1971 – March 31, 1995), known simply as Selena, was an American singer-songwriter. She was named the "top Latin artist of the '90s" and "Best selling Latin artist of the decade" by Billboard for her fourteen top-ten singles in the Top Latin Songs chart, including seven number-one hits.The singer had the most successful singles of 1994 and 1995, "Amor Prohibido" and "No Me Queda Más".She was called "The Queen of Tejano music"and the Mexican equivalent of Madonna.Selena released her first album, Selena y Los Dinos, at the age of twelve. She won Female Vocalist of the Year at the 1987 Tejano Music Awards and landed a recording contract with EMI a few years later. Her fame grew throughout the early 1990s, especially in Spanish-speaking countries.

In honor of Selena,her music,her legacy,and her short time on Earth,Daniel McGuire(impersonator of Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga)will honor her legacy by becoming an impersonator.This announcement is a very exciting one and early rehearsal stages are underway as of the 12th of August,2012.The show being produced will be like no other Selena tribute,chronicling her Spanish and English hits,along with a live band and backdrops of the original Selena performing live,as well as a touching tribute montage.Daniel will not be singing live,but will be using Selena's original vocals from her albums/live performances.The show/production is in early preparation stages and is scheduled to begin in Spring 2013.No setlist is currently confirmed as of now,but the show will end with two of her biggest English hits(I Could Fall In Love and Dreaming of You).The show will be a treat for Tejano music fans,as well as Selena fans,because the purple jumpsuit she wore as part of her Houston AstroDome concert will be replicated and will be used in the show,plus many more surprises to come.SEE YOU IN SPRING 2013.

Fans of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, the Mexican-American singer who was murdered in 1995 at age 23, have never stopped celebrating her life and music. On April 8, Emily Berl, 32,an artist and photographer, attended the Selena Fan Gathering at Plaza de la Raza in Lincoln Park, near her home in Los Angeles, to see how that Tejano music sensation was being remembered.

Ms. Berl has a fascination with fan culture and the groups that can build around it. “That kind of dedication is really interesting to me,” she said. “People working one way or another toward a common idea.”
She shared some of her portraits from the day.

White roses were handed out at the event. “I think icons who died early have this special cultural significance,” Ms. Berl said. “People are preserving her in some way and celebrating her life.”

“It didn’t feel like people were competing to be the most accurate,” Ms. Berl said. “It was people’s personal interpretations, or personal tributes. People were paying their respects.”


Selena will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this year.
