Default Michael on Billboard's 2012 year end charts

Curiously in the year of Bad 25, Bad 25 wasn't the best selling Michael Jackson album according to Billboard's 2012 year end charts. It's Immortal that made it onto Billboard's Top 200 albums of the year (at Nr. 174):

The album is also the 35th best selling R&B/Hip-Hop album of the year:

Number Ones is the 26th best selling catalog album of the year, it just missed the Top 200 main album chart: http://www.billboard.com/#/charts-ye...order=position

He's at 82 at the Top artists of the year charts: http://www.billboard.com/#/charts-ye...order=position

At 69 at the Top Billboard 200 artists chart: http://www.billboard.com/#/charts-ye...order=position

At 32 at the Social 50 artists list: http://www.billboard.com/#/charts-ye...order=position

At 36 on the top R&B/Hip-Hop artists list: http://www.billboard.com/#/charts-ye...order=position

Maybe because people are buying the Immortal album at the shows?

    Who's counting albums - touring's where it's at!

MJ's at no 4 in billboards top tours of 2012, not bad for someone who's physically not here any more.

Yeah, that's great. Do they count only the American dates or Europe too?

It's interesting how the "old timers" are doing better at touring than today's stars...

Are these numbers considered good overall?

The sellout ratio is O.O ...

It might be because each arena usually gets more than a single show. Staggering number of shows. The overall receipts are good, but they can also be read to mean receipt per show is really low.

That being said, this list is suspicious. Not all of Madonna's shows sold out. Same for Beiber & Lady Gaga.

So i will take this chart with a great of salt.

I don't think from that ratio "really low" can be read. Let's say 100 less tickets are sold for a show that what is available. That will show up as not sold out in such statistics, but I would not claim it means attendance is "really low". It would still be a good attendance, just not totally sold out. If we look at the total gross numbers - they must have sold all those tickets to someone.

The show I attended in Vienna was not sold out either, but it was about 95% sold out. I think it had a good attendance even if not sold out. And there were four shows in Vienna that weekend, so that too influences the fact that individual shows may not be totally sold out. Bad seats are probably not sold when they can watch the same show and have a better seat the next day.

This is it. I was in Munich (Olympiahalle) for 3 weeks. A great show with a sell-out-feeling, but mabye there were 10-20 seats free. It was really a sucess in Germany. The reviews are overall positive. In many cities like Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Leipzig they added a addtional afternoon-show. 3 shows instead of 2 in one city.

You could say that the receipts are comparatively low for each show compared to other acts on there, ie to get the same amount of money mj immortal has to do far more performances. I personally don't really think that is a problem as you're comparing immortal to all the top acts who are bound to be the big stadium fillers so they're going to rake in the money from one perf, esp madonna whose tix prices must be pretty high to get those receipts. Further down the list of 25, you're getting similar if not worse receipts from each performance. I suppose to get an idea of how good it all is for the estate, you would need to know what the net cost is of putting on a cirque perf compared to all the other acts on there.

Re those sell out stats, i bet it's pretty easy for organisers to say a stadium is a sell out compared to a seated arena when in reality there is still space to squeeze more people in. Madonna's concert in hyde park was def not 'full'.

Do they count only the American dates or Europe too?
    They'll be ww figures.
