Today in Michael Jackson History January 24th

HISTORICAL DATES

1972 - Motown Records releases Michael Jackson's debut solo album called "Got To Be There". It would go on to sell over 3.2 million copies worldwide. The album was later remastered and reissued in 2009 as part of the 3-disc compilation Hello World: The Motown Solo Collection.

1979 - The Jacksons perform the second of three nights of the Destiny World Tour, in Bremen, Germany.

1984 - The Jackson's shoot a Pepsi commercial named Street directed by Bob Giraldi. This Pepsi version of "Billie Jean" featuring the Jackson's dancing in the street with a bunch of kids (including Alfonso Ribeiro & Siggy Jackson)

1985 - Quincy Jones shipped Richie and Michael Jackson's vocal guide on cassettes to each of the artists who would be involved in "We Are the World"'s recording. Enclosed in the package was a letter from Jones, addressed to "My Fellow Artists"..The cassettes are numbered, and I can't express how important it is not to let this material out of your hands. Please do not make copies, and return this cassette the night of the 28th. In the years to come, when your children ask, 'What did mommy and daddy do for the war against world famine?', you can say proudly, this was your contribution.

1988 - Michael Jackson continues rehearsals for the BAD World Tour's second leg at the Pensacola Civic Center in Pensacola, Florida

1989 - Michael makes history again by holding the top 2 positions for the most selling music videos of all time. After only 2 weeks of release, "Moonwalker" is reported to have outsold "The Making of Michael Jackson's Thriller". With this, Michael broke his own record, with "Moonwalker" the biggest-selling music video of all time followed by "The Making of Michael Jackson's Thriller" as the second biggest-selling music video of all time.

1997 - Michael Jackson is reportedly seen taking some time off and spends a few days resting at Euro Disney in Marne-la-Vallee, France.

2007 - Michael Jackson has dinner with casino mogul Steve Wynn in a private room at Alex restaurant in Las Vegas as speculation grows he will launch a comeback . Michael Jackson's friendship with Wynn, dates back decades and he was often a guest of Wynn at The Mirage, there were even talks of Wynn bringing the singer to Las Vegas

I see you have the late teenage Michael, which I like. I never felt that Michael will go and sit in Vegas & do shows nightly. It just seems like something that would bore him. Maybe Whyn was interested in some huge production or backing something connected with Michael?

The first line of the quote of the day, reminds me of Paris' comment where she wrote something about loving her dad & she will make him proud of her. I think she added "you will see" at the end?

Michael sings Maria with so much soul & emotion for a young person. I wonder if Adele ever listened to this song?

Great job Qbee and others who contributed to this, and Happy Bday Qbee.

So many things happened today that I love:wub:

Pepsi ads:clapping:
Young Ribeiro didn't lose his ability to dance, he got even better, and I didn't know Siggy was in the ad too?
Which one was he?

This was very nicely said from Quincy:

So funny that the only one to beat MJ was Michael himself:D
Is Michael still holding the title the biggest- selling music video?

Michael broke his own record LOL. I will always be proud MJ fan. I miss him everyday.

^^Yes that is something about him--he broke his own records. We should tally how many times other artists did that. I will not be surprised if Michael is number 1.
