A glittery jacket once worn onstage by Michael Jackson sells at an auction in the Hard Rock Café in Las Vegas, Nevada. Los Angeles Lieutenant Art Miller said in a written statement that "on May 28, 2004, detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Juvenile Division officially concluded their two-month investigation into allegations of child abuse against Michael Jackson. After an extensive investigation, which included hours of interviews with the person making the allegations, detectives concluded there was no evidence that any crime occurred. No charges will be sought." The charges were unrelated to the charges in Santa Barbara, CA.

Michael Jackson returns for the first time in 20 years to his hometown, Gary, Indiana, where, during a news conference with Gary Mayor Scott L. King - who presents him the key to the city, the singer announces he would partner with Mayor King to develop a performing arts center for the city - the 'Michael J. Jackson Performing Arts Center', that would be located in downtown Gary. According to Mayor King, the singer would support the project in any role he felt comfortable with, for instance helping with the design or fund-raising.He then visits his old home where he grew up, including the Roosevelt High School, where the Jackson 5 perfomed in the 60's. There, he tells students that "with a will of iron, with perseverance and determination" they "can do anything they want." He is given presents and made an honorary Roosevelt graduate and later in the evening he participates at the "Salute To The Troops", an event open to the public with free admission, where the troops were recognized. Accompanied by Karen and his cousins Elijah & Levon, Michael first goes to the City Hall where the Mayor King presents him with a Key to the city.

Thriller, Michael Jackson's tiger dies of lung cancer at actress-activist Tippi Hedren's Shambala wildlife preserve in California. Thriller was born on November 20, 1998, she was 13 years old and her twin brother Sabu had enjoyed a peaceful life.

He wants the song Unbreakable to be the first single but Sony insists for the song You Rock My World and Michael accepts. He starts to work on the video with director Hype Williams.

Michael Jackson goes shopping at Hamley's.
- In 2003-
Michael Jackson's dear friend, neighbor and one of Hollywood's most famous leading man Gregory Peck passes away at Age 87. Gregory Pecks widow Veronique Passani-Peck asked Michael to help organize the funeral and burial services. Michael Jackson buries Gregory Peck and pays the entire funeral costs. Gregory Peck once marched along side Martin Luther King Jr. He was president of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences from 1967-1970. He made the decision to postpone the 1968 Oscar ceremony after Martin Luther King Jr's assassination. Church officials estimated that almost 3,000 people attended the funeral. Michael Jackson, wearing a red jacket, caused a stir when he arrived to take his seat among the many celebrities that were in attendance.

It's an instant success even though no video is shot for the song. "Mick Jagger didn't hesitate when Michael Jackson told the Rolling Stones singer to warm up his vocal cords before recording their duet "State of Shock" said Bruce Swedien . "By then, everyone knew how good Michael was," he continued. "If Michael Jackson says warm up, you warm up , even if you are Mick Jagger."

Sony continues its 30-million-dollar promotional campaign for "HIStory", by floating a statue of Michael Jackson down the River Thames in the UK. There were a total of nine statues throughout Europe. Each statue was 10 meters tall, 2,100 kilograms in weight and made from steel and fibreglass. The promotion for "HIStory" was the largest campaign for a single album at that time. While performing "Earth Song" on top of a bridge (more than 27 feet above the ground) of the benefit concert, "MJ & Friends" in Munich, Germany, the upper part of the bridge collapses, no longer being held by engines and only stopping from falling free by the cables that were attached to it. Michael Jackson was standing on the steel footbridge when it fell down and violently hit the ground below stage level. Michael is visibly shocked, and climbs back on stage and carries on his performance of "Earth Song"without showing signs of pain or distress. Michael Jackson suffers chest injuries during the accident, as reported by German newspapers the following day, as well as back strains. He finished the song, took his final bow, and returned once again to his stage dressing room and then collapsed. Security whisked him off to a hospital in Munich. When asked how he was able to go on with the concert after the horrible fall, to which Michael responded:
"You know, the only thing that I heard in my head was my father's voice saying to me, &#8216;MIichael, don't disappoint the audience!'"

Washington, D.C - In what is the first of a sweeping restructuring of his personal and business affairs, Michael Jackson has severed ties with his long-time accounts and business managers, Bernstein, Fox, Whitman, Goldman & Sloan, with Bahrani attorneys Qays Zu'bi and Grahame Nelson, and Gut Records executive, Guy Holmes. He has also established The Michael Jackson Company, Inc., with plans to phase out MJJ Productions. In other related matters, he has named Spokesperson Raymone K. Bain as General Manager, and has retained N.Y.-based L. Londell McMillan and The McMillan Firm, known for business restructurings and turnarounds, to oversee legal matters pertaining to his business affairs. Mr. Jackson has previously announced plans to record an album which he predicts will be released in 2007. His recent Japan tour was the first in what will be a line of public appearances, and he is reviewing numerous offers to tour musically, which he plans to embark upon within the next several months. Mr. Jackson, who is currently in Ireland on personal business, plans on relocating to Europe in the near future. "Will You Be There", the eighth single from album Dangerous is released. Also on the soundtrack for family movie, "Free Willy". Michael Jackson says that he wrote "Will You Be There" in his Giving Tree at his Neverland Ranch. The full version of the song includes a prelude featuring the Cleveland Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus performing a portion of Beethoven's ninth symphony.
