New Official "Say Say Say" Remix Coming October 2015 [OUT NOW!!]

Paul McCartney has just announced the remastering and reissues of two albums, Tug of War and Pipes of Peace, the latter of which is more prominent to MJ fans for containing two duets featuring Michael Jackson.

One of the new bonus tracks on Pipes of Peace is a remix of Say Say Say. You can hear it in the promotional video for the album here and most notably, it appears to be using an alternative take of MJ's vocals!! Take a listen! :D (0:14-0:37)

It doesn't come out until the beginning of October, but a quick glance at his other remastered albums on iTunes shows that all the bonus tracks can be purchased separately, so unlike the duet with FM, you should be able to buy this new remix by itself :)

In addition, there is a new book of photos that features unreleased photographs by Paul's wife Linda, who took many photos of him and MJ together. So who knows, we might even get a few new photos of MJ in the studio with Paul McCartney!!

^i was just going to ask what the picture of Paul wearing the military cap and coat came from, but the next clip was a video of Pipes of Peace.
He looks really good in uniform, but I guess all men do, don't they?

This is cool to hear, but Michael approved the verse he did. Using alternate takes etc. should be saved for bonus tracks, not replacing the ones on the actual album.

That is how it is. The original version we all know and love is on Disc 1 with the rest of the original album, the new mix is on Disc 2 with the other new bonus tracks :)

I look forward to hear, it's always nice to hear a familiar song of MJ sang differently.. even when it's just breaths and notes held differently. a little refreshing, gives another layer to the music we can appreciate.. cuz its new

  1. The Man
Home movie footage filmed by Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney in Sussex, 1981

The DVD contains this. is it possible there are MJ images?

The packaging of this product is absolutely stunning! A photobook dedicated only to the Pipes of Peace music video! Even the YT advertisement is top-grade.

I would love to see any of Michael's albums receive this type of treatment.

Well done Sir Paul!

I would love to get the studio filming of Michael and Paul. Also Linda was a fantastic photographer, and I'm always wanting to see more of her work.

This. Yes. I can only imagine how many fantastic products we could have if they gave Michael's work the care and attention it deserves.

This.

Below is the link for Sir Paul's archive collection. Both the Pipes of Peace and Tug of War offerings are stellar because one can see (and hear via remastering) "the care and attention" that each album was given because it was deserved.

Pipes of Peace cannot compare to Thriller obviously but, the project was treated as if it was the best selling album world-wide! The video cannot compare to Thriller and yet it receives its own photobook! These offerings also benefit from Sir Paul's approval and input.

Michael does not have a collectors' label and I believe one would have to be weary of who would be behind any collector's label Michael was to have. The purpose of such a label is to preserve and pay homage to a legacy; not sell subpar products for profit.

Oooh guys!! I just looked the album up on iTunes [link] and the new mix is 7 MINUTES LONG!!! :D

I'm so glad that Paul has included something like this. He very well could have remained bitter about everything that happened but Maca really seems like a cool guy who appreciates everyone that's worked with him.

Cannot wait to hear this.

He has no reason to be bitter IMO. Michael did do nothing to him.

I hope that means unseen footage about Michael!

It might do! Here's what is on the DVD:
Pipes of Peace DVD
1. Pipes of Peace Music Video
2. So Bad Music Video
3. Say Say Say Music Video
4. Hey Hey in Montserrat (previously unreleased home movie footage)
5. Behind the Scenes at AIR Studios (previously unreleased 6 min edit)
6. The Man (previously unreleased home movie footage)

So it seems we have two opportunities to see new footage of Michael, in #5 and #6. Given the name of #6 we can safely presume he will appear there. We might get a glimpse of him in #5, depends on what footage they've selected.

GAAAH! :jump:*sets up camp at amazon/itunes*

I bought McCartney´s Pipes of Peace on tape like 20 years ago - ONLY for the Michael duets lol. I still have it. (Like I bought the Diana Ross album (?) only to hear that frikkin Muscles song. lmao!)

He really doesn't. He should have been bitter towards himself for being a tight b*stard and not splashing out himself!!!

As a huge fan of both of them, I'm a bit mixed on the issue but I'm more on Michael's side.

I can totally see some things from Paul's side, that he thought MJ was joking when he said he was going to buy The Beatles catalogue, that he introduced MJ to this concept only for MJ to end up buying something very important to him. I think another thing Paul was mainly concerned about was the commercialisation of their records, which does have the potential to decrease the perceived value of the catalog.

In that sense, I am glad that MJ owned the rights because he would respect it more than than some random guy in a suit. However, most notably MJ authorised the use of the song 'Revolution' for that Nike commercial which really pissed off the remaining Beatles at the time... and I'm actually with the Beatles for this one. I was at the supermarket the other week and a song from the 80s came on, one of them was a relatively good songs... but because I had heard it hundreds of times on an insurance commercial before, I struggled to not associate it with some silly insurance commercial. The same would be for The Beatles in that case, when the song plays they want you to think of a Revolution, not some shoe from the eighties. I would be horrified if someone bought the rights to MJ's catalogue and then allowed, idk, Microsoft to use the song 'Black or White' to promote the Xbox One now being available in both black and white or something silly like that. I don't want people to hear that song and think of a games console, I want them to think of the racial equality message behind the song. Silly example but you get my point. It's really the only part of the deal that I wasn't too big on Michael doing.

I've seen people complain about The Beatles complaining about that issue, saying that Paul has licensed Buddy Holly's music to be in commercials. Firstly Paul is only 1/4 of the Beatles so you know, can't speak for all of them, and secondly he did explain that Buddy did commercials when he was alive and that Paul allowed the use knowing Holly's family was fine with that (and there were no objections from them), whereas The Beatles were against using their music for commercials from the get-go, refusing all commercial deals of that sort.

Of course, in saying all of this this (and without any knowledge of Paul's finances at the time), he almost certainly had the ability to prevent this and for whatever reason, he didn't so Michael had every right to do what he did. MJ wasn't in the wrong and that's what I ultimately side with him. I think the bitterness between the two has been exaggerated by fans on both sides and the media. I watched a 1989 interview with Paul before posting this and he says halfway through it "I can't blame him ya know, they're on the market" and while their relationship was very strained afterwards, they both still seemed to have a professional respect for each other (even meeting up in '89 as seen by this photo). If there was any bitterness, it certainly is gone now and has been for a long time.

I think personally I'm just really sad that they stopped talking to each other and that no more songs came out of the two. I loved their duets and the friendship they had in the late 70s/early 80s and it would've been really cool to see them collaborate further. Just thought I'd share my two cents on this whole MJ/Macca fallout thing.

I grew up as a child hating Paul cos of this haha but I'm since a major Beatles fan.

Paul always had the money to buy the songs. That's my major issue. Then he was going to split it with Yoko, and she has said that it would never have worked.

I agree that letting the songs used for commercials was pretty sh1tty on Michael's part though. Those songs mean so much more to people than a shoe or whatever else. The Beatles really are the holy grail when it comes to music. Paul should have taken his own advice, but Michael should have known better to use a song like Revolution like that.

Michael wouldnt like a song like Will You Be There used for ladies razors.

Yeah totally.

I think another reason Paul said he was afraid of buying the entire Beatles catalogue by himself was that he didn't want to appear 'grabby': "The problem for me was I didn't want to be Paul McCartney owning John Lennon's bit of the songs. I felt that would be like unfair. I wanted to own my bit of the songs but I wanted John or his estate as it then was, to own his side of it. I thought it would be perceived as a bit kind of grabby of me if I just moved in, "yeah I got all the songs". I wasn't comfortable with that. So I rang up Yoko and I said, "We have an opportunity to buy these songs. 10 million [pounds] you, 10 million [pounds] to me and we'll have it." And she actually said "I think we can get it for 5." So I said, "Well ok, you know, let's see what we can do." And we couldn't. They went for 50 [million USD] in the end."

Found a comment from Yoko too: "Ono was pleased that Jackson had acquired Northern Songs and called it a "blessing."[2] Speaking in November, 1990, Ono stated, "Businessmen who aren't artists themselves wouldn't have the consideration Michael has. He loves the songs. He's very caring."[2] She added that if she and McCartney were to own the songs, there would certainly be arguments. Ono explained that neither she or McCartney needed that. "If Paul got the songs, people would have said, 'Paul finally got John.' And if I got them, they'd say, 'Oh, the dragon lady strikes again.'"

Do we know this for sure? Paul visited MJ at the set of BOW, too. This photo leaked just a few months or a year ago so we were not aware of this meeting before. They possibly met even more often but we just don't know...

Wow no I did not know that!! Thanks for the picture :D

I only naturally assumed they didn't talk much because he has said on many occasions they had 'drifted apart' (like in this tribute letter to MJ) and I've never seen any photos of them together after 1989. But it's good to know they still got along after the deal and possibly met up every once in a blue moon :)

Loved that little snippet! If it turns out to be a 7 min track with new vocals and new footage of Michael that would be awesome!
And on a side note: yes, seeing how they are handling this project and knowing all the possibilities for doing something similar (or even better) with Michael's work really makes me wish an MJ collectors label will become a reality one day.. I'm dying for a project made by people who actually care and respect him & his legacy - focussing on Michael the artist and not Michael the money making machine

I see what you did there ;):p

I saw a golden opportunity....

Maca better come back to Ireland soon, I've yet to see him. Granted, the chances of him playing Say Say Say and pulling me up from the crowd are slim, but I'm still holding on hope.

LOL at least he was there 5 years ago! He hasn't been to NZ or Aussie since 1993 I think :(

Im only a big fan in the last 4 years I'd say. Hopefully this tour will branch out and we will both be happy. I need to hear Helter Skelter live. I need to.
