If you don’t already have Michael Jackson’s hit album Thriller in your music library, Google Play is offering the chance to download it free of charge.

There is, though, a catch. The album is described as a ‘Google Play Exclusive Version,’ and from our sampling of Billy Jean, you may find the special edition a little disappointing. It’s a demo version which sounds like he was singing it in the car …

But hey, free is a very good price.

One thing you won’t get for free on Google Play Music is Adele’s new album, 25. While it is available for preorder on both Google Play and iTunes, the singer’s management has said that it won’t be available for streaming.

Is Michael Jackson Challenging Adele’s ’25’ From The Afterlife?

http://www.mtv.com/news/2545296/michael-jackson-thriller-free-adele-25/

Michael Jackson’s Thriller is resurfacing on the same day as Adele’s new 25, and for 7 days straight (Nov. 20 through Nov. 27), the king of pop’s iconic record will be available for free.

Free?

The most most popular musical masterpiece in the world… for free?

That’s correct. Google Play is giving the US the chance to fill in its musical library with an important staple in celebration of Thriller’s 33rd anniversary. Assuming there’s a person on this planet that doesn’t already have a copy of the world’s best-selling album, MJ’s record could see a major spike in downloads this week.

Will it be enough to defeat Adele’s 25 downloads this week?

Not likely — especially since Adele’s record is hot off the presses. But hey, not everything’s a competition, and we can all just sit and be thankful that the two icons are making their way to our ears again.

Download Thriller for free here.

Comment from the Estate:

From the Estate of Michael Jackson ❤️Hi MJFAM!
Many of you have seen tweets and other social media posts today announcing that Google Play is giving away Thriller in the U.S. This is a great promotion that Sony set up with the permission of the Estate. Google Play (or any retailer) is free to set pricing (including giving away) any items that they wish - the label is still paid for those units, just like any other record. The Estate appreciates Google Play wanting to pay homage to the biggest selling album of all time and it’s a great way for Google to celebrate the album and encourage interest in Michael’s music by new fans!
