More than 6 years ago I shared "Butterflies (Promo Edit*)" - eg on this forum - from an internal CD which has an excellent sound. Too bad the released one is a stupid loudness master.

I just want to say that the file I shared (if you don't have/know it, ask people here) shows you how it would actually sound on CD if not someone's mind had the idea to kill all dynamics and push the volume levels until it's all clip-hell.

Years later I noticed that the track I had shared is actually identical to the album's DAT I own, lol.

*no official title, I just named it that way

Oh, I wasn't aware of that. Perhaps the way MJ heard the album in the studio before it was mastered? Yeah the clipped tracks are horrible and I'll never understand why loudness was substituted for quality on an MJ album. Looking back it seems like such a cheap noughties thing.

Have you heard the MOV pressing?

It was made due to the boom of car players and many other portable devices.

Of course I checked out the MOV. It's better than the CD but I don't need it, I got my DAT that's invincible.

You mean to say you have the DAT of the entire album?

I do. But let's not derail the thread with this.

I mean, if we're being realistic, the vinyl was probably cut using the same compressed CD master, as most vinyls have been for a long while. So any differences are probably due to placebo or the format itself, which does indeed impact the sound. Unless I'm wrong and this vinyl you're speaking of is an actual complete remaster.

I'm not quite sure how some of these MOV releases are so dynamic sounding, but it sounds much more diverse with a wider range, warner, the vocals have never sounded so good and I'm just hearing things I've never heard on the CD. The guitars sound amazing, sounds pop. I don't think this is sorced from the compressed CD master as I also have a vinyl which is probably sourced from that and the sound is nowhere near this level. Korgnex says he has a DAT with the complete album in this quality, some sort of internal studio copies. Would love digital files closer to this quality.

I agree, its a great album and very underrated. The best part is his voice. His vocals are so deep and so warm on many levels.
Break of Dawn may be his finest ever sex ballad. You rock my world is super catchy and lots of fun, the first three tracks are a pure pop and dance hat trick and the rest is at least decent. Butterflies and Cry again bring his voice forward and Speechless and Break of Dawn are just complete "OMG this is incredible moments".

I only heard the album in its entirety late in 2015 and have been happily converted to its charms ever since.

Is this vinyl rare or can you find it easily online? I'd like to pick it up to give it a listen myself.

Pretty sure you can find a rip online, too.

The MOV is definitely not sourced from the brickwalled 2001 release. One listen and you'd know its no placebo. Its definitely a different mastering. You could compare it to the mastering of The Ultimate Collection and King Of Pop. The songs unique to TUC all sound much better and LESS brickwalled on the King Of Pop collections. As Aaron said, the naughties (and Michael was an absolute disaster for this) was ripe with loudness nd brickwall issues.

The original LP sounds the same as the 2001 CD. I recently saw a thread on the Steve Hoffman forum.

Also, just for the record I was looking to buy the 2010 Japanese "remaster" of Invincible which after some research shows that it is in fact the same master as the 2001 release. I would have been severly pissed to find this out in person.

Heres a thread on the Steve Hoffman forum that claims that the Dangerous and Invincible MOV LPs use the original masters and that OTW, Thriller and Bad use the 2001 masters.

    http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/thread...ackson.214362/

Edit: The MOV pressings of Off The Wall, Dangerous and Bad are less than €20 each incl. delivery on dodax.xo.uk. I can confirm this as I now have no money left.

I look forward to any feedback if you get it. I've hyped it up a lot on here but I don't think you'll be disappointed, I definitely think it's worth having in your collection, you'll never bother with the inferior version again.

Thanks for the info and link and all your input dude. All I have to go on are my ears and this thing is the only way to hear this album. Can't recommend this enough.

Heehee! Just wanted to be dramatic. I don't believe on having an opinion on something unless I've heard it, watched it, read it etc. Would be incredibly presumptuous to be giving my thoughts on it without having heard it lol.
