Default Michael in car on way to police?

    Hi,

I remember there was a audio from Michael sitting in the car with police officers in 2003 (?) and asked the officers to turn on the air condition. Does anyone have that video with the audio?

Hmm isn't it standard behaviour for officers to place those under arrest in handcuffs, even if they voluntarily hand themselves in?

Personally, I find it hard to believe that police officers treated him improperly/brutally because they could have easily faced charges for mishandling him. As far as I know, MJ did not press such charges against them, meaning their behavior towards him was kind on that day (so there was no reason for them to be held accountable).

Besides, sheriff Jim Anderson released publicly in the past an audio snippet which shows that MJ (during his escort to the Santa Barbara police department) felt fine & wonderful in the police car to the point where MJ was even whistling & singing to himself.

Also, according to reports, they decided to handcuff him inside the car (rather than outside the car while entering the police station) in order for MJ to avoid the embarrassing (if not humiliating) moment of such a move in front of millions of viewers/fans.

As for the red bruises, there is a widespread belief among people that they are self-inflicted (so as for MJ to gain some sort of sympathy during those days).

I don't know for sure if it is standard procedure or not but I guess it was at the time.
I'd like to think the cops were just playing by the rules, although I guess if they are generally permitted to apply some leniency they definitely didn't appear to do so.

Whatever the rule book states though, I don't think there was any real reason to think MJ was going to be aggressive or abusive. He certainly wasn't about to knock those officers out and escape their custody. He had arranged to hand himself in - not the actions of somebody who wants to escape. He wasn't known for being aggresive, he wasn't built like a boxer, he wasn't being accused of a violent crime. What we perhaps don't know though, is if MJ HAD been getting angry or uncooperative behind the scenes BEFORE he was put into the cop car. If he had (and it could have been understandable) then the cops would have been forced to put the cuffs on. Personally I doubt that was true and the cops were just making an example of him as they knew he was going to be on TV. they had to be seen to be doing their job properly and not showing any special treatment to MJ. That's fine IMO.

After he had been arrested MJ made some accusations about being mistreated and handled roughly but I was never sure how true those statements were. We all know US cops can be a bit too 'enthusiastic' when handling their prisoners but I doubt they would have risked treating MJ too roughly. Now, they may have put him in a dirty cell but then if a dirty cell was the only one available (or if they were all dirty) I see no reason why they should have cleaned it specially for their new visitor if they wouldn't have done it for anybody else. As a celebrity MJ didn't deserve special treatment.

Unless he was high I can't see how he would have been "fine & wonderful" in that situation. If he whistled and sang to himself, it was probably rather to calm himself down.

The handcuffs and sometimes shackles are only used for dangerous and violent criminals. People who turn themselves in or white collar crime usually don't get that.
This is part of the "perp walk" in highly publicized crimes where the police show off and it's meant to humiliate and show they "got their man". It's like a "show".
In Michael's case I think they had second thoughts about it and surrounded him into the police station but he raised his arms so the camera could see.

Murray wasn't handcuffed when he turned himself in, but he was at the trial after the verdict, which also not usual routine.

I remember recording 13 years ago on ET that covers "The Jackson Exposed", the audio was played for 10 seconds at least. But still I don't buy the police claimed they didn't do anything to him while arresting him. They're such liars as people can be, police are not all that good either.

No offence to the OP, but I find threads and requests like this macabre to say the least. Forty years of genius and we look into the worst moments of his life.

some statements are not true regarding handcuffs.. anyone that is put in a situation where reaction could be questioned can be handcuffed legally.. I have even been handcuffed for a legal dispute that I WENT to the police station for help.. What should have been a simple problem caused between the DMV and the police department not sending each other records.. I went in to get records the DMV requested and they handcuffed me for having a warrant for a suspended license.. which AGAIN was a fault between DMV and and police department.

To be honest, that's childish behaviour by the police.

Police should have the training to deal with little problems like this. Training should include calming people down and make sure they are comfortable. Good officers do that everyday. Other training includes assessing the situation before deciding if someone is dangerous. Again, good officers do that everyday.

By putting handcuffs they have already escalated the problem. And it shows that those officers have no idea how to deal with people. And such behaviour makes people antagonise police....and in return police antagonise people.

I would rather believe what people (who were with him inside the police car) stated about MJ during his escort than fans’ guesses/interpretations.

    We know that, too.

There is available video footage (from inside the hangar) which shows that MJ was very cooperative right after his landing & before he was put into the cop car.

I agree. Police officers were very discreet towards him on that day.

I think this is also because of MJ’s very cooperative behavior (from the very beginning) towards the whole process. So, as a reciprocal gesture, they did their best so as not to cause him any further embarrassment.

Krshna28 - I agree, sadly the united states is a fear based country.. people react and interaction with heightened fear and it causes many issues. There's a reason why this country has more gun related deaths than most with similar or more free gun laws.. It really is a sad situation! Cops may behind there vests but the way the society works, everyone is afraid of everyone in many ways.. More so than many other countries
