Just watched it today.
Didn't read the book.
Not a big deal in general. It looked like Tron mixed with Sword Art Online.

Love those posters and loved the movie. It was pretty different from the book, but I felt like it did certain things better than the book did. Some scenes in the book just wouldn't translate well to film or be very interesting to watch.

I absolutely loved it. It's heavily nostalgic so I'd expect it to get a lot of criticism though.
For movie fans, you will spend a considerable amount of time noticing the little nods - some of which are very subtle, others not so. But all that said, I still felt the main thread was strong enough to keep it from being JUST a movie of references.
Pacing and narrative issue towards the end of the second act that stopped me agreeing with the posters that scream PURE SPIELBERG MAGIC. But otherwise lots of fun.
And without posting spoilers, there is an MJ reference and the sequence were they go into a certain old movie absolutely blew my socks off. Never seen that done in quite such a way.
