keyboard nutters looking to scrutinize every Joe Sample instrument and move. but even then, a whole song makes more sense even if you're looking for a solo. can't find it, though.

Flashlight is on the 1st page. Anyway, those are songs that a Top 40 listener thinks of as representing funk, because they happened to cross over. It's like the mainstream calling Cameo a "one hit wonder" because they only know "Word Up".
 
This is hip-hop, but it's that old-school, funk-inspired sound. "Same Song" by Digital Underground. It features Tupac and samples the Parliament's "Theme From The Black Hole"
