i've never come across female blues musicians before..

my favourite part of the blues is the folksy fiddle. but it was kind of deserted after the ~40s i guess, so i find it hard to lookout for it in contemporary recordings. i haven't delved much into the genre (i'm more into the sound than the message), but so far my ultimate blues tune:

Eddie Boyd - Five Long Years

followed closely by

Led Zepplin - Since I've Been Loving You

as for the fiddle,

Muddy Waters - Rosalie

Jack Kelly - Cool Iron Bed

Cannon's Jug Stompers - Feather Bed

and harmonica:

Sonny Boy Willamson I Got To Cut Out

Stevie Ray Vaughan & Albert King - Matchbox Blues
i love the term "Git-fiddle"!!

Buddy Guy Acoustic in 1969 - Hoochie Coochie Man

Buddy Guy & John Mayer - Feels Like Rain

John's not an original "bluesman" but he's a helluva guitar player for blues music. And blues players like Buddy Guy are what attracted him to the music business. These guys you just cannot compare. But Buddy respects the hell out of Mayer because of how he plays and Mayer's respect for bluesmanship.

P.S. Awesome thread!

actually i've never listened to traditional Afro-American blues before and most of the music above is something new to me. funny that the first thing that came to my mind when i saw this thread's title was Eric Clapton's acoustic album Unplugged. which is btw among my all time favourites.

You don't know Big Mama, lol. Elvis Presley got famous remaking her songs like "Hound Dog".
ahh'll correct that: i hardly ever come across female blues musicians lol i actually know of Big Mama only because of Hound Dog; it was like my first piece of pop music i was taught, lol.

That John Legend song sounds more like some James Taylor type of music, not blues.

This song is from 1930. It's called "Stinging Snake Blues" by Madelyn James
Louis Jordan ~ Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby

caught this bloke on Jools Holland's show last week

Seasick Steve

this is from the same show but in 2007, with the best drum machine ever invented.

That Seasick Steve made me think of this old ZZ Top song, lol.
La Grange

Here's a couple more Beatles tracks:

For You Blue

Yer Blues

some acoustic blues from the genius that is Jimi Hendrix:

and one of his biggest inspirations, Buddy Guy, with my man Jools on piano:

Washboard Sam ~ Soap And Water Blues

B.B. King ~ Three O'Clock Blues

I was inspired by the Cadillac records film to check out this guy.

Brilliant!
