Re: drumming

Hell yeah, I love drum corps!!!!!! I miss watching them live. Especially drum and bugle corps! My favorite corps is still The Cavaliers!! Here's a video of their '06 show The Machine. I was lucky enough to see this show when I was a drum major for my high school marching band. God I miss marching band, lol!

Re: drumming

I never realized just how enjoyable it was to see drum corps until I by chance came across a movie on VH1 one night while channel surfing. The movie was about college drum corps competitions, fictional, but I think based on actual college level competitions. Couldn't stop watching it, not so much for the story line, but the actual drum competitions. Absolutely amazing, never had any idea how intense/complicated the drum corps can be. Anybody else see that movie or can remember the name of it?

Was it called "Drumline" with Nick Cannon as the lead perhaps?

Yes, that's it, I just checked VH1 movies. Now I remember the story, and if it was semi-true to life, it showed an inspirational direction for talented people despite the hurdles. If it comes on again I'll be watching, and those drum standoffs were amazing. Thanks!

Re: drumming

^^^No prob! That movie came out when I was still in high school, and all of us band nerds went and saw it. The movie kind of gave us some more due credit for being in the marching band. No joke, it's very much a sport to me. You have to be physically fit to march in a fluid motion, keep your posture up, and all the while blow your heart out into an instrument, or carry a drum that weighs a good amount. It takes some effort, lol!

Ndugu and Paiste formed a amazing bond that has blossomed over the 46 years that he was endorsed with the Paiste family. He was a amazing friend and a pioneer in the drumming world. But if you truly dissect it. It’s a complex compelling performance. The tone is spot on. Enough snap on the snare but not too thin that it enters Ska/James Brown crack snare territory. The amount of reverb #BruceSwedien applies is SPOT on perfect. The performance However is timeless like a tuxedo. Or a pair of chucks. Or jeans and white t shirt. It literally gives MJ his dna. You know what it is ONE SECOND in. Its creator, Jazz/funk great #NduguChancler (mind you on a GAZILLION other hit songs) passed away today. Giving all due respect and praise to the drummer that sparked a revolution of dance madness breakbeat mania.
