i have. let me congratulate myself. i am the latest victim to find out that the line between legitimate companies and non legitimate companies has been crossed. i know that the A T and T phone company, which provides my internet service, is in no hurry to stop the cyberthieves, which i am sure, A T and T has commissioned(though they say not) to attack my computer, and give me a reason to give A T and T more money. i now have to pay for something i did not do. kind of what i expect in the post Michael Jackson era. right on time. i understand he was burglarized for no reason, too. i guess i have to look forward to more stuff like this, happening. you'd think that if a person desires to give a company money, legitimately, that'd be enough for them. but no. they have to have your money, illegitimately, on top of that. when i tried to convey that to them, in a round about polite way, they acted like they didn't know where my conversation was heading. and they were replete with apologies. apologies they didn't mean. and they knew where my convo was heading. nevertheless, i didn't complete it. they knew i was at their mercy. and i know they shook their fist and smiled, saying a victory style 'YESSSS!' when i hung up the phone. and i know they laughed at me, even though i can't see it.

anyone else, here, get burglarized, this way, yet?

I've used 6 different computers with operating systems ranging from Windows 2000 to Windows 7 and not had a single virus. All you need is basic, free anti-virus software and some common sense.

See, some people don't have common sense and those are the people that buy Macs. Just sayin'.

*No offence to any Mac users here, it doesn't apply to all of you, lol*

I don't know a single Mac user who bought a Mac because they didn't know how to use anti-virus software...they just had specific requirements. But it's a nice side effect that the world's nerd jerks are focussing on PCs at the moment, that'll change, they already moved onto other "appliances".

You don't like Macs, that's fine. I don't like PCs a whole lot, that's fine too. :D

The day when Macs hold at least 51% of the computer market (right now it's something under 10%) is the day when I lose all faith in humanity. It's just a complete step down, makes no sense at all.

At&T sucks beyond belief. But they all suck. Every.single.month. I have to get on the phone with them to debate my mysterious phone bill that needs a decryptor to be understood. Every single bleeping time I am signed up for "roadside assistance" that I never requested and that I have to remove every single month. And it shows up again and again.

I "love" going to their stores (by the way, why do they have them even when you can't buy anything there anymore?? It's all online, why even bother??)- "more bars in more places" my a**. The worst reception in town is IN THEIR STORE.

The cell phone coverage in many place in the US is worse than in Europe in the early 90ies, you have better coverage in Eastern Europe, that's not a joke.

Sorry you have trouble, that stinks.
 
I had a Mac Book Pro for nearly a year now, my family has a Mac. I had a Windows Dell, but I never used it anymore.

I would never go back to a PC if I could help it.

I've never had a problem with a Mac and I've been using them for over 6 years.

I go t myself a macbook pro about 1,5 years ago. Before that I always used Windows. Really disliked it, but mac was too expensive. Never had a virus on my Windows, free anti virus software and a little common sense does the trick.
But I would never go back to Windows. macbook never freezes on me, does what I want when I want it. And I use heavy software.

But it's just your preference. Virusses suck whether you have windows or mac haha.
 
What happened to your computer, and why do you have to pay AT&T? I'm confused about why AT&T would charge a customer because of a virus. Did the virus cause your computer to use too much bandwidth or something?

I really don't like Macs. Since I"m used to PCs, I think they're just annoying. They look nice, though.
 
I never get viruses but I'll rarily get spyware and browser hijackers. All you need is AVG free anti-virus, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D and maybe HiJackThis and your computer should be fine. It's important to only visit sites that look legit and don't download a bunch of free games/programs. Sometimes free stuff comes with spyware. That's how they make their money without selling the program/game. It's also a good idea to stay away from 99% of all porn sites. If a site you don' trust asks you to install something, especially anything activex or that has an exe extention, then don't do it. If you still don't feel safe then turn the securty settings on your brower all the way up.
 
I can't say I've ever been involved in anything such as you describe. Back when my family and I used to share computers, our PC got viruses/spyware all the time.

Now that I have my own PC, however, I have yet to have a single problem at all, even though it's a crappy Windows (I do hate them).

Like schizophrenic and Giant Enemy Cat said before me, all that's really needed is common sense to avoid most virus attacks. However, sometimes one can get infected through trustworthy connections (i.e. opening attachments/links from friends whose system has been compromised). Really, it's Windows' responsibility to ensure their products are understandable to even the most idiotic of users, and thus far they have yet to do any such thing (in my opinion).

I like macs, I wanted a mac, and all I got was a lousy windows. Oh, well.



Here you go, something to make you feel better. It's them getting tortured, for once... :devil:

You know what's even scarier? Ransomwares, they put up some fake messages from the police, FBI or interpol from the country you live saying you've accessed or possesion of anything illegal (pirated songs, illegal pornography) and extort you with something called Ukash which causes much anxiety attacks you were scared to death.

When I see the damned ransomware I suffered a few days of panic attacks for something so phony.
 
I have 2 laptops. The one is a Windows 7. And the one that I am on now is a Windows 8. I almost always tend to get all sorts of viruses on my laptops. Even though it is protected by an antivirus program. But whenever my laptops acts up really bad. I just save all of my files on my external hard drive. And factory reset my laptop. And it is good as new for me again. I had to do it again about a week ago. In order to get my Sims 3 game back in working order. Hopefully I can keep this laptop. In perfect working order for once. It sure is a pain having to reinstalled all of my Sims 3 game discs. But thankfully I only have to factory reset my laptop. Every now and then. So it doesn't happen all the time for me.
