Would Michael have approved of Paris being a Chris Brown fan?

I'm on Twitter now and have seen that Paris just tweeted "Chris Brown is our Pride and Joy". Just hours ago we learned that Brown allegedly robbed a woman of her iPhone. Just a three days before Michael's death, Brown pleaded guilty to assualting Rihanna. Since then, he has been unremorseful and even smashed the window of his dressing room on GMA because he didn't like their questioning of him.

To see Paris idolise Chris Brown like this brings me to tears. Not only is she potentially harming her public image, she is also (unintentionally) sending out the message to her female followers that men beating up women is okay, as long as the guy is attractive. I think Michael is rolling in his grave.

Chris has said that he was on his way to see Michael at the Staples on June 25 2009...(4 months after the incident with Rihanna). If this is true, it sure seems MJ had not put him on his ignore list :)

How much should we actually expect of a kid? I honestly dont think she should be held responsible for likening Chris Brown. She is a teenager who happens to enjoy his music and thinks he is cute lol. It's a simple crush.

I remember when I were in her age and also listened to artists who were considered to be "bad boys" or whatever you wanna call it hehe. At that age, you dont think that much about all other stuff. Lets give her some slack on this one imo, lets remember she is 13 only. Thats why it's not fair to say she thinks abuse is Okay.

It's not like she's gonna marry him, so I don't think Michael would have had a problem with Paris having a teenage crush on him.

I don't know. Michael liked to see the good in people and give them chances. I don't see him saying you can't like this music etc. I have no idea.

I don't think MJ would have held a grudge against Chris with the whole Rihanna thing, I think he would have seen it the same way I do, although I completely oppose abuse in any shade or form if Rihanna can forgive Chris so too should I.

I have no idea What Michael would have thought. I know he very forgiving and excepting of people even if they were not perfect. Personally I see no harm in Paris being a fan of Chris Brown. I dont see her sending out any message that it ok to beat women by doing that. I dont think its something that shoudl be held against him for the rest of his life. Hopefully he has learned a lesson from his actions and is moving on. While I really do understand your concern the only thing I take issue with on your post is, I think its kind of harsh to Judging Paris over this by stating her father would be turning over in his grave becuase YOU personaly may not like her choices. That Part could have been left out IMO.

Michael would understand better than any of us that people make mistakes and they deserve our forgiveness. He would be the last person to condemn Chris Brown and label him unredeemable and violent for the rest of his life. Michael saw the talent in Chris Brown and I think since they both grew up in abusive homes Michael would have reached out to Chris after the Rhianna incident and tried to mentor him on how a real man expresses his inner hurt and anger. Chris is a BIG MJ fan so there must be some good in him.

This question is strange a little. for example, my DAD couldnot stop me to being a MJ FANS.But michael would explain to paris that CB's some behavior was wrong,I think .

Well the question is would he approve. Not if he would stop. and I agree you cant stop someone from being fan.

On what planet are parents required to be thrilled about the musical tastes of their children???

Maybe he wouldn't have said, yeah, here, take the car and go out on a date with him, :D, but I think Michael would have had more on his plate as a single father of three than freaking out over Chris Brown.
And as others have said, someone who posted stickie notes about "no violence" around his bedroom, would probably think of that as 'teachable moment'.

As long as Paris doesn't tweet "He can beat me up anytime" (I have seen grown women display such lack of awareness), all is fine.

Last I checked James Brown wasn't exactly a Saint in that aspect, now was he? ...
Didn't Michael hang with Bill Clinton? I doubt he was walking through life and lecturing everyone on the virtues of being infallible.

But I do think he would have spoken to his daughter about abuse of various kinds- who else would be more qualified than Michael?

I think because of Joe, Michael would have been very sensitive about his daughter liking a man who bashed a woman's face in like Chris Brown did Rihanna's. I read the police report and at one point Chris had Riri in a headlock and kept bashing her head in and biting her.

I hope to goodness that Michael didn't just look the other way and DID try to mentor Chris and did talk to Paris about idolizing a man who beats a woman up.

Well, I can't stand Chris Brown, but honestly I don't really have a problem with Paris being a fan. She's only 13, and kids do stupid things when they're that age. And of course it's possible to like CB's music without approving of his personal life. I don't know how Paris feels about Chris being a woman beater, but IMO 13-year old girls can be in denial over the negative traits of their celebrity crushes. She'll grow out of it. I've been seriously disturbed by the reactions some adults have had to the Chris-Rihanna situation, but I don't judge any teenagers who are fans of Chris.

As for Michael, I have no idea how he would have felt. On one hand, he was extremely forgiving and wanted to see the best in people. And he of all people would know not to trust everything the media says about someone. But then on the other hand, Chris being a woman beater is not a tabloid rumour. We've seen the pic of Rihanna. We've read the police report. It's a fact that Chris beat Rihanna. I'm really hoping Michael would not ignore that. I hope he would have talked with Paris about that, and made it clear that while it's ok to like CB's music, violence is never acceptable.

I guess Michael might have been happier if Paris was a fan of somebody else, since I don't think he approved of violence at all. But probably he wouldn't have seen Paris being a fan as a huge deal. I mean, she's only a fan, she's not in a relationship with the guy. He must have seen a lot of teenagers have crushes on all kinds of people. He probably knew it's only a phase you grow out of.

Considering she's just a fan and not about to marry him, so I don't see why the question even arises,

You really think a kid of that age is thinking about that when she tweets something?? Oh I might be sending out this or that when I tweet this...
Really some people here are going to far with this.

That's the problem; she isn't thinking about these things, which is why the Jacksons should look over what the children are about to tweet and if any thing seems that it could damage their image or send out the wrong message, then they should prevent the children from tweeting it.

Rihanna also idolised Michael, who I personally believe liked her more than he did Chris Brown. How do you think she feels when her idol's daughter calls the man who viciously beat her and sent her to hospital a "pride and joy". This is why the children should be monitored, and why Michael kept them away from Twitter and the public eye. Tweet the wrong thing and the children have the potential to damage their own image, their father's image, hurt people who idolised him and send out dangerous messages to their young followers.

We've seen over the years that Michael is very forgiving and gave people second chances. I don't think he would have a problem with this.

Well considering Rihanna is currently doing two songs with Chris Brown, I don't think she would mind. If Rihanna can forgive the man who bashed her face in, so can I.

I don't think anything the children tweet could damage Michael's image. Michael's legacy is already set in stone. Nothing can change that. Elvis is still considered a legend even after everything Lisa Marie Presley has done.

Paris, it seems, can separate the art from the artist. So what if she likes his music… that doesnt mean she approves of what he's done in the past. Nobody has asked her what she thought about the whole CB and Riri's incident. Maybe she'll tell us why she likes CB. Paris is her own person and I think Michael would be proud of her regardless of who's music she likes… And her twitting about CB or any other artist Cant have an effect on Michael's legacy/image because his legacy is already set in stone and the children are being children and trying to live their lives. If we criticize everything that they're doing, and wondering why they are doing it, we are no better than the tabloids...

Oh please you can't watch a kid every minute of the day. Michael didn't give them a twitter account etc but they might not even been interested in it back then they are older now teenagers do social networks. And remember they aren't only the kids of an icon but they are normal kids too and they act like that. And Rihanna sure isn't going to take it that serious it's like Earthlyme said it's the artist she likes and I'm sure Paris doesn't agree with what he did in his personal life.

The only thing that MIke would have not approved vultures and porn producers and people selling his kids for money.Period.

Fans of Chris Brown or Nirvana or Adele or Bob Marley, not a problem at all.

Yes, because he wasn't a hypocritical, self-righteous "holier than thou" a--hat who replayed others' mistakes in perpetual motion (but would whine like a little b-tch if others dared do the same). In other words, he wasn't like 99% of the planet.

He was kind and forgiving, and could see the merit in everyone (at times to the point of foolhardiness, but still). He wouldn't mercilessly and eternally punish someone for a given transgression, especially when the transgressor is a troubled young person whose home life was not ideal. I would like to think Michael would probably take the time to sit down and understand him, talk to him and see how he saw the world at that moment, and try to help him out.

He wouldn't pretend to have some faux concern to use as rationale for keeping Brown trapped in a hole forever.

He would probably also want to talk to Paris and see what she sees in him, if nothing more just out of sheer curiosity. He wouldn't judge her for liking CB and his [crappy] music cuz he loves her. :p

The thing that worries some fans is that Paris is just not a fan of CB, she's a STAN (she said so herself). She defended CB many times (regarding the Rihanna incident), talks about him on Twitter A LOT, think he's like the best artist today, collects his memorabilia, etc.

Perhaps MJ fans should stop stalking a 13 year old's twitter, period.

She's 13 years old and not obligated to be omniscient yet. At that age I started dressing as the ultra goth and listened to God knows-what- and still listened to MJ. Some of that other stuff I find incredibly unworthy now. It's part of finding yourself. We kinda grow into the people we will be and let's just say that I think that most of us made rather questionable choice in between.

Like others said, she's not about to marry him.

For those in the US, who are so very concerned about the message of domestic violence? You know about VAWA? That it's another year were those are mentally stuck in the dark ages want to throw that important act out of the window? Perhaps direct your energy in that direction. That will affect countless more lives than worrying about the growing taste buds of a 13 year old.

Frankly, besides the issue of Mr. Brown's domestic violence record- dude is marked, quite a burden at this point- MJ fans have no business getting up in arms about the iPod content of a 13 year old. I find that incredibly creepy. Mr. Brown has been taken care off by the appropriate channels. Direct your energy toward those who are still being beaten up and have no voice.

I dont see anything to worry about - its not anything to cause concern. She is a teenager - acting normal. Lets make it clear She didnt defend Chris actions concerning Rihana. She defending his right to move on and suggested
forgivness. To suggest there is somethign wrong with her being a HUGE fan of Christ Brown is over the top IMO .. She is a normal teen age girl in that respect .. Its not going to harm her in any way even is she is at the moment obsessed with him ... We have all been there done that .. NORMAL .. She will move on as she matures

Also Being a Fan or Stan of Chris brown does not mean his fans/Stans support or condone his past actions.
So probably best to take that out of the equasion when discussing Paris. She has not done that in any way shape
or form. What ever she said she is young and cant fully understand abuse. But Ive never seen her condone it.

Oh that's what I meant.

I have also heard from a reliable source years ago that Chris Brown used to be in contact with MJ a lot. I think he and his dancers rehearsed at MJs house a few times. I'm not sure which one

At the end of the day she is still a 13 year old girl, cut her some slack.

Amen to this post. The mass hysteria over this article proves that some MJ fans have learned nothing about how the media operates at all.
