I will be using this thread as a central point for all the charity bike rides I participate in. When I get time I'll update on the latest ride I'm doing (post from my phone! Lol) and post pics, stories and details of the charities I support :)

Cool :) Im looking forward to your pics and updates and hopefully I'll be in a position to support your effort.

The British Heart Foundation is the UK's number one heart care charity raising millions for Research, Information, Campaigning, Care & Equality.

Here is an exert from their website:

Aims and objectives

Our mission is to play a leading role in the fight against disease of the heart and circulation, so that it is no longer a major cause of disability and premature death.</SPAN>
In our strategy report, Beating heart disease together (published in 2007), we stated that:</SPAN>

Within a generation, we aim to:</SPAN>

  • reduce cardiovascular disease in the UK to one of the lowest levels in Europe.
</SPAN>
Within a decade, we aim to:</SPAN>

  • halve the number of people under 75 who die from cardiovascular disease</SPAN>
  • make sure at least two thirds of people under 75 survive a heart attack</SPAN>
  • reduce heart-related deaths in all UK local authority areas to the current level in South East England or below</SPAN>
  • reverse the increase in childhood obesity.
</SPAN>

Below is an exert from the "My Story" section of my online sponsor page detailing the reason I am doing the ride this year :)

In 2004 I decided to take part in my first British Heart Foundation London to Brighton Bike Ride as part of a team from my then gym. The main reason I wanted to take part was because it was a good cause that was close to home. My dad had a heart attack when I was 6 the year after he had his major stroke. He was paralised ever since then. It wasn't until the gym told me that the charity bike ride is always held on Father's Day each year.

I want to do this year's ride in memory of my dad who passed away in the early hours of Friday 16th December 2011 from heart related issues. It will be especially more meaningful as it will be a fantastic way to honour my dad by doing the bike ride on Father's Day this year.

I have so far managed to reach £205 for my target of at least £250 so far from my Online Sponsor Page and would be grateful if people could share the link around their friends and circles they belong to :bow:

Here is my new bike after my old one broke during my Paris ride last year:

I Love it! I respect YOU sooo much for what you do for charity!!! :hug:

I won't be tracking the ride from start to finish but all my tweets during the ride will be geo-tagged so when I post to twitter the location can be posted :) I doubt my phone's battery could last that long being on nonstop though :mello:

I regret to say that I've had to pull out of the bike ride this Sunday as I've suffered a bout of Sickness & Diarrhoea and the doctor said that it's probably wise not to ride a bike for 56 miles after it :( Gutted.

Currently looking through next year's bike ride calender and I have got my eye on the London to Brighton Bike Ride for Father's Day next june :yes:

I would love to see you out there like a Photographer on a Foreign assignment and finding the most amazing Michael Jackson related or Charity Related Events :pray: How do you feel about that idea Teamie :unsure: :group:

The next London to Paris bike ride is 8th - 12th May 2013 from what I've read so no more this year. I will need to have some time in looking up and researching for all this so I may be long time in replying :(

My dad loves to get me to go with him on loong bike rides in the summer, and I have been thinking these past couple of weeks after seeing all of this MJ Legacy stuff i feel inspired and im thinking of doing the coast to coast rides to try and raise money for charity

You certainly would! :D I've often thought about doing the Coast To Coast ride having done the Capital To Coast ride in the past :) I'm waiting on ballot results of my entry to Ride London 100 before I commit to London To Brighton :yes:

I'm all registered for London to Brighton and can now start my usual training rides from today! :D These include the usual 5 mile round commute to and from work. Weekend rides from my house to Kingston Upon Thames and back (up to 30 miles). A route that takes in the major motorway junction incorporating our M25/M4/M40 motorways and is quite hilly (this is about 20-25 miles long). The biggest of my training routes is from my house to Reading and back (which is approaching 50 miles).

Here are previous tracked rides on two of the routes that I mentioned in my recent post:

Circular route taking in two major motorway junctions not far from me :)

And this one is the longest I do which is a return trip from my house to neighbouring Reading :)
