Post your faves here

She Drives Me Wild:
Black Jeans And
A Turtleneck Sweater
I Know The Girl
Is Fakin' 'Cause
I've Seen Her Look Better

She's Composition
She's Statistical Fact
She Got It Ready
For The Willing
Got It Kicking Of The Back

Why Do We Keep
Strangling Life
Wound This Earth
Crucify Its Soul
Though It's Plain To See
This World Is Heavenly

See The Nations Turn
Their Swords
Into Plowshares

Money

"Watch the ones with the biggest smiles and idle jabbers, cause they're the backstabbers"

Mind Is The Magic

"Come in to me
I know mystical garden
Orchards and violets
All mysteries are parted
Life is a mirageghost
Imagination
Pure inspiration called justification
Nothing's impossible
Nothing's concealed
Everything here is for real
What gives fantastic ghouls all in your head?
Who creates these wonders like nobody can?"

Is It Scary

"Am I amusing you
Or just confusing you
Am I the beast you visualized?
And if you want to to see
Eccentrialities/Eccentric oddities
I'll be grotesque
Before your eyes"

Stranger in Moscow

"was wandering in the rain
Mask of life, feeling insane
Swift and sudden fall from grace
Sunny days seem far away
Kremlin's shadow belittling me
Stalin's tomb won't let me be
On and on and on it came
Wish the rain would just let me"

Michael Jackson was a poet!

Scared Of The Moon as a whole is a lyrical masterpiece. Smooth Criminal, Little Susie. Brilliant little tales with melody.

Some of my faves were already posted (She Drives Me Wild, Money, Is It Scary), I also love

Things I Do For You

Always wanting something for nothing
Especially what they don't deserve
Reaching in my pocket
I just got to stop it
Even though they got a lot of nerve

Am I in a bad situation
People taking me to the extreme
They don't use rejection
So I need protection
To keep my equity

"You're a vegetable....."

Not sure if you're joking or not, but the vegetable/buffet lyrics in WBSS are actually very clever.

"you're a vegetable, they eat off of you", to my mind means he is alluding to being a celebrity where people use him for his fame.

In terms of my favourite lyrics, there's so many, but for now...

Will You Be There
Who Is It
Working Day and Night
Smooth Criminal
Keep The Faith
Stranger In Moscow

And this from the afore-mentioned WBSS:

Lift Your Head Up High
And Scream Out To The World
I Know I Am Someone
And Let The Truth Unfurl
No One Can Hurt You Now
Because You Know What's True
Yes, I Believe In Me
So You Believe In You

Jam
She Pray To God, To Buddha
Then She Sings A
Talmud Song
Confusions Contradict
The Self
Do We Know Right
From Wrong
I Just Want You To
Recognize Me
In The Temple
You Can't Hurt Me
I Found Peace
Within Myself

Jam
She Pray To God, To Buddha
Then She Sings A
Talmud Song
Confusions Contradict
The Self
Do We Know Right
From Wrong
I Just Want You To
Recognize Me
In The Temple
You Can't Hurt Me
I Found Peace
Within Myself

Yes, Jam. Of course, Jam.

Dangerous:
Deep In The Darkness Of
Passion's Insanity
I Felt Taken By Lust's
Strange Inhumanity

Heal The World

And The Dream We Were
Conceived In
Will Reveal A Joyful Face
And The World We
Once Believed In
Will Shine Again In Grace
Then Why Do We Keep
Strangling Life
Wound This Earth
Crucify Its Soul
Though It's Plain To See
This World Is Heavenly
Be God's Glow

This Place Hotel

Hope is dead
She thought that I had cheated for another lover
I turn my back to see that I'm undercover
Now I can't convince this girl there ain't no other
Someone's evil to hurt my soul
Every smile's a trial thought
In beguile to hurt me

Heartbreak Hotel
As we walked into the room, there were faces
Staring, glaring, tearing through me

This thread has reminded me that MJ was a very underrated lyricist.

This thread has reminded me that MJ was a very underrated lyricist.

Said this for thirty years and in his obituary. Rarely gets mentioned.

Singer, yes. Dancer, yes but his songwriting was also sublime.

Billie Jean
For forty days and forty nights
The law was on her side
But who can stand when she's in demand
Her schemes and plans

Heck no, I wasn't kidding. For someone who wasn't especially revered for being a sophisticated lyricist, this is a brilliant metaphor-who would think to compare a buffet to the backstabbers, the users, the people who gobble you up and spit you out. Amazing.

I also think Analogue's post "glaring, staring" from Heartbreak Hotel is right up there with this.

Keep The Faith

Look At Yourself
And What You Doin' Right Now
Stand Back A Minute
Just To Check Yourself Out
Straighten Out Your Life
And How You're Livin' Each Day
Get Yourself Together
'Cause You Got To Keep The Faith

Don't Let Nobody Turn You 'Round Brother
You Got To KnowWhen It's Good To Go
To Get Your Dreams Up Off The Ground
Keep The Faith Baby, Yea
Because It's Just A Matter Of Time
Before Your Confidence Will Win Out
Better Stand Up And Act Like You Wanna Do Right
Don't Play The Fool For The Rest Of Your Life
Work On It Brother And You'll Make It Someday

Lift Up Your Mind
Before Your Mind Gets Blown
Some Things In Life
You Best Just Leave Them Alone

I don´t know what lyrics he wrote in We´ve Had Enough

Love was taken from a young life
And no one told her why
Her direction has a dimelight
From one more violent crime

She innocently questioned why
Why her father had to die
She asked the men in blue
How is it that you get to choose
Who will live and who will die
Did God say that you could decide?
You saw he didn't run
And that my daddy had no gun

In the middle of a village
Way in a distant land
Lies a poor boy with his broken toy
Too young to understand

He's awaken, ground is shakin
His father grabs his hand
Screaming, crying, his wife's dying
Now he's left to explain

He innocently questioned why
Why his mother had to die
What did these soldiers come here for?
If they're for peace, why is there war?

Did God say that they could decide
Who will live and who will die?
All my mama ever did
Was try to take care of her kids

We're innocently standing by
Watching people lose their lives
It seems as if we have no voice
It's time for us to make a choice

Only God could decide
Who will live and who will die
There's nothing that can't be done
If we raise our voice as one

That's What You Get For Being Polite
Jack still sits all alone
He lives the world that is his own
He's lost in thought of who to be
I wish to God that he would just see love
Give him love

She's Out Of My Life
So I've learned that love's not possession
And I've learned that love won't wait
Now I've learned that love needs expression
But I've learned too late

One Day In Your Life
One day in your life
You'll remember the love you found here
You'll remember me somehow
Though you don't need me now
I will stay in your heart
And when things fall apart
You'll remember one day...

Wanna Be Startin' Something

^ This whole song is a masterpiece lyrically. I don't even know where to start. I like to think he wrote "if you can't feed your baby, then don't have a baby" with certain family members in mind :shifty:

The Lady In My Life
The ad-libs. "All over, all over, all over" So effortlessly sensual

Man In The Mirror
I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change

Dangerous
And then it happened
She touched me
For the lips of a strange woman
Drop as a honeycomb
And her mouth was smoother than oil
But her inner spirit and words were as sharp as a two-edged sword
But I loved it
'Cause it's dangerous

Jam
I have to find my peace 'cause no one seems to let me be
False prophets cry of doom
What are the possibilities
I told my brother there'd be problem times
And tears for fears
We must live each day like it's the last

And this from the afore-mentioned WBSS:

Lift Your Head Up High
And Scream Out To The World
I Know I Am Someone
And Let The Truth Unfurl
No One Can Hurt You Now
Because You Know What's True
Yes, I Believe In Me
So You Believe In You

Also:

If You Cant Feed Your Baby (Yeah, Yeah)
Then Don't Have A Baby (Yeah, Yeah)
And Don't Think Maybe (Yeah, Yeah)
If You Can't Feed Your Baby (Yeah, Yeah)
You'll Be Always Tryin'
To Stop That Child From Cryin'
Hustlin', Stealin', Lyin'
Now Baby's Slowly Dyin'

I love it how Michael often could couple the most cheerful, dancy music with rather dark and pretty serious lyrics.

OR that blackmailing Billie Jean with her false paternity claims!!

These adlibs are the BEST LYRICS OF ALL TIME!!!

(This time I am joking, but definitely the most SEDUCTIVE lyrics of all time!)

The entirety of Is It Scary, and

Money

Are you infected with the same disease
Of lust, gluttoney and greed?
Then watch the ones
With the biggest smiles
The idle jabbers...Cuz they're the backstabbers

Don't Stop Til You Get Enough

I'm Melting (I'm Melting)
Like Hot Candle Wax Sensation (Ah Sensation)

Morphine

Relax
This won't hurt you
Before I put it in
Close your eyes and count to ten
Don't cry
I won't convert you
There's no need to dismay
Close your eyes and drift away

Can You Feel It

The blood inside of me is inside of you

All the children in the world should be
Loving each other wholeheartedly
Yes, it's all right
Take my message to your brother
And tell him twice

They Don't Care About Us

Tell me what has become of my rights
Am I invisible because you ignore me?
Your proclamation promised me free liberty, now
I'm tired of bein' the victim of shame
They're throwing me in a class with a bad name
I can't believe this is the land from which I came
You know I do really hate to say it
The government don't wanna see
But if Roosevelt was livin'
He wouldn't let this be, no, no

Shout (really the entire song, but)...

Problems, complications, and accusations
Dividing the nations and races of empty faces
A war is taking place
No substitution for restitution
The only solution for peace is increasing the height of your spirituality

Masses of minds are shrouded clouded visions
Deceptions and indecision no faith or religion
How we're living
The clock is ticking, the end is coming, they'll be no warning
But will we live to see the dawn

How can we preach when all we make this world to be
Is a living hell torturing our minds
We all must unite to turn darkness to light
And the love in our hearts will shine

I think that's good enough.

There are many great lyrics in Earth Song. He´s telling us so many things

Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we've shed before
Did you ever stop to notice
This crying Earth, this weeping shore?

I used to dream
I used to glance beyond the stars
Now I don't know where we are
Although I know we've drifted far

What about animals
Turned kingdoms to dust

(Here´s my thought ;Animals are endangered because of habitatloss, forests are cut down)

What about crying whales
Ravaging the seas

(My thought ; there is a documentary blackfish, I think it´s forbidden everywhere now to catch young orcas in the wild..babyorcas crying for ther mothers and relatives and mothers and realtives crying for the babies(and killed)But they are crying in captivity )

What about children dying
Can't you hear them cry

Where did we go wrong
Someone tell me why

Another Part Of Me
A Rather Nation
Fulfill The Truth
The Final Message
We're Bring To You
There Is No Danger
Fulfill The Truth
So Come Together
We're Mean Is You

Will You Be There - lyricly a masterpiece.

And Will You Be There was written before all the horrible things happend - yet it somehow seems like MJ had forseen it all!

Will You be There is one of my favs lyric-wise. "I'll Never Let You Part/For You're Always In My Heart" is my Michael motto :)

Also:
I'll be there
Let me fill your heart with joy and laughter
Togetherness, well that's all I'm after
Whenever you need me, I'll be there

Serious Effect
Each and every thing is
Like a mini movie being filmed
'Cause I'm the captain
I'm in a body from hell
I'm shivering, quivering
I smile while I'm delivering

Blood on the Dancefloor
To escape the world I've got to enjoy that simple dance

Little Susie

To be damned to know hoping is dead and you're doomed
Then to scream out
And nobody's there...

Neglection can kill
Like a knife in your soul
