BBC Radio1 have decided not to playlist the song (not even on their C -List) yet again.
If this song had received more support from the fans then maybe they would have playlisted it, the song would get many million more listeners in the UK and I'm sure the sales would benefit as a result. Despite many requests for support in this forum and others, few fans have seen fit to support the song.

Currently this song is sitting at #31 in the midweek charts and is likely to drop further by the time the new chart is announced on Sunday night. If it does, we may well see a Michael Jackson single not chart in the top 40. It still seems ludicrous to me that it this can happen, but it can. Despite some of you saying this doesn't matter because it isn't new material etc, it does. This song is not simply a re-release, it is a new version of an old song. A re-release that was intended to mark the celebration of the Thriller 25 project and intended to become a hit single.

We, the fans, have let Michael Jackson down. More importantly though, is that he has let himself down. No promotion for the single from either him or the record company have meant that few people know this single exists. If he truely wants to reinvigorate his career and become succesful he needs to make a bigger commitment to promoting his material.

If anyone is interested, I'll repost the radio contact information below:

The Girl Is Mine 2008 entered the UK chart at number 78 in its first week and is at 44 in its second week due to downloads alone.

This song received virtually no airplay in its first week of digital release, but it did start to gain ground in the second week.

The sales he had with an album originally released 20 years ago does not make his current situation good. If he wants success he should go out there to promote it like everyone else. If he doesn't and a release doesn't reach its full potential then he has only himself to blame. Sony are trying their best with this, but there is only so much they can do without his participation. An appearance at the Grammys would help a great deal. A performance at the Grammys would be the best thing to do. He should also be doing some TV interviews to discuss Thriller and it would also act as a platform to discuss his new album, killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

Also, I have been requesting this song since before the download release. It's a pity not more people on the MJ boards are bothered. they'd rather see the single and album sink then take a couple of minutes out to email or text a few stations.

and maybe he doest give a toss about the album to start with.you presume hes bothered about it.

Dude what is this? Resorting to fans promoting a song is a joke. It's Sony's job not ours. if it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be. it's sad yeah, but we shouldn't be the ones trying to promote a song.

Anyway, it's pretty clear WBSS 2008 is taking over.. :p

He should be bothered about it because if he isn't, he shouldn't be releasing it.
It's his product and he should be proud of it. He should want it to do as well as it can in order to help his career and future album.
If he's not bothered about this product and he's not bothered about his career then why should we all hang around? You know as well as I do that he craves the attention of his fans and he loves positive attention when he receives it. If he continues to make a half-hearted effort to release material despite all the great promises then his fan base will continue to diminish and he'll lose those things. If he cares about the legacy that he'll leave then he has to care about getting his reputation and career back on track, because if he doesn't then (as we have all seen start to happen over the years) he'll be remembered for the bad things that have happened to him and his achievements will be ignored if not forgotten. THAT is why he should care about this album - it reminds the public of his greatest achievement and asks them to concentrate on his career succes overall rather than the allegations, platic surgery or other stories in the media.

It's pretty clear that after its promising start in the US, WBSS has slipped down quite far in the Billboard chart already and is receiving less and less airplay on US radio.

don't worry everybody else (including tabloids even) are bothering to make sure everyone knows what was Michael the biggest achievement (name it the "Thriller" album)...

Michael doesn't have to.... more he doesn't want to;)
he is alive and well and ready to conquer the pop world again
as Michael Jackson 25 years older:D

yeah, in the US. different story overseas ;)
anyway, the point is it's not our job to promote a song. end of.

Radio 1 don't play a lot of newly released singles. I wouldn't worry about the chart position of The Girl Is Mine 2008, it's just a remixed version of an old single. Also Michael and Sony haven't even created a any sort video to promote it on various music channels. As it takes more than radio airplay to promote a new single.

Thriller25 will increase the sales of Thriller, but don't expect it to be No.1 or in the top 20 of the charts as only hardcore fans like us tend to by special Anniversary Editions of albums. The media will write that The Girl Is Mine 2008, and Thriller25 flopped, but they should know that releases like these are hardly the same as a brand new Michael Jackson album, of new songs being released. So when Michael does release a proper new single from the album he's still recording, that will be the time to complain to Radio 1 if they don't play his new single.
