Invincible - what if?

I have been listening to the album alot lately and thought that it is a shame that Invincible was not properly recognised.

I mean there are at least 5 singles that could have come from that album - but something else which frustrates me more is that if Michael doesn't release a new record (yes, it is possible) people are going to remember his last album as a flop album.

I personally think the record was a massive success considering it only had one single in "You Rock My World" but if there were more singles, just think how successful it could have been!

10 million sales from one song is incredible. Imagine if Unbreakable, Whatever Happens, Heartbreaker and Butterflies were all released too? (I know Butterflies was released to radio, but I mean with real promotion and video etc).

It frustrates me because I think people should have had the chance to hear the songs from this album.

Invincible made me a Michael fan so I'm always going to support the album even if it isn't as great as previous efforts.

I just hope so much that MJ brings out a new album which is so fantastic that it makes up for the failure of Invincible.

i felt so much that michael jackon was "jipt" as some of us like to call it lol
that album also made me become a hardcore fan not just a lover of his music.
i truly feel like it could have had SO much succeess had he not been going through what he was going through with sony at the time.
everytime i hear heaven can wait i just get so frustrated becuz its a reminder of how big that album could have been but wasnt.
still...
it sold like 10 million copies and in the real world artist today are still trying to sell that maby records but i guess for michael and considering his previous sale history it was considered a flop..which it wasnt!!!!

invincible was a great album...and it will always remain a timeless classic in my book.

this flies in the face of all the fans that say that non fans don't recognize this cd.

this is one of the hubs of what fans don't seem to understand about the general public so to speak..that they are knowledgeable about mJ..they know about this cd. and they like it a lot. a lot of people say that he returned to his roots on this.

fans argue about how mj has lost touch with the general public. they are wrong about that. they are mixed as to why mj is still in the public consciousness. they underestimate that the general public couldn't think of mj in any way, unless his music was strong, first. mj was not gyped. he hs a lot of people fooled..even some fans. joe public always stops him on the street. unless there is a lull in that, then joe and jane public are more aware of mj than fans realize. invincible helps that, because u r only as good as ur last cd. but for mj, it's his first and his latest. i think fans are baffled because Mj's way of navigating fame is different than other artists way of navigating it. his road is the unprecedented road..so, some fans are fooled into thinking he is not relevant in the traditional way. it doesn't matter if he is not traveling the traditional route..as long as he is relevant. and he is. it shouldn't surprise fans that his route is different from the route of other artists. everything about him is original, including the road he traveled, and still travels.

No kidding, I had Heartbreaker playing one day when some friends showed up. They listened for a little bit and finally asked who was singing and I told them MJ. They didn't believe me, so I finally had to pop the cd out of the player and show it to them along with the case. The same day we went to a Best Buy and all three of them bought Invincible.

Invincible had a lot of potential...it's a shame it wasn't marketed the right way.

Yeah, I played Invincible to a party once, and some of my friends didn't knew it was MJ neither. They loved the songs. Don't know if they bought the CD though!

True. It's a great album, the best album released in the 00's IMO.

Hope SONY will promote the new album better - if the CD is released with them!

Society always seems think Mr.Jackson's new albums are failures, flops because they have not met the success of Thriller...

Although, promo - ing an album always helps...

At this stage in Mr.Jackson life, career...he has "earned" the right as being a household name throughout the world...

Therefore, he can take whatever direction he desires and still continue to be on top of music history..!

oh, no! not another "invincible-what if..." thread! That subject had been beaten to death.

forget commercialism, Rodney Jerkins' dominance 'ruined' this album for my personal enjoyment.

Teddy Riley tracks seemed nowhere near their standard from Dangerous, and folksy tracks like The Lost Children and You Are My Life just didn't resonate with me, and a bucket load of other fans (judging by the endless discussions we've all had on this topic).

i find that a lot of the overwhelming criticism from fans is founded, and a good portion of it seems exaggerated too because of the superficial explanations a lot of fans give (marketing, sales, charts bla bla bla shitty bla). and the album being so lengthy adds to some illusion because may be some fans dislike a handful of tracks (and so deem the album as a massive failure) - but these tracks may only add up to less than half of the album.

but all-in-all i find that a healthy portion of it to be some fantastic material, in fact nearly half of the album.

my answer is: read in between.

.... that i wouldn't put the CD in and listen from start to finish unlike his other albums, while at the same time acknolwedging its strengths in that it had a couple of my favourite songs of all time.
