What does this MJ symbol mean?

I don't know if this is the right thread, but I've noticed this symbol/design on a lot of his jackets. What does it mean?

Those are the only two examples I could find right now. But what does it mean? Or is it just simply a design?

Here's another one from Christian Audigier's bday party.

Isn't it what the US Military used to use to designate rank, arrows on the arm? Seems to be that way in ever WW2 film anyway.

i know it looks military, and in the home movies, he said something there about believing that military fashion was going to be the trend at the time - that was after making Caption EO, i think, and Janet borrowed the idea for her Rhythm Nation music video.
