Campaign: "Gimme The Truth! - The World Doesn't Need Sensationalism!"

Hey,

We (MeggyKate & daydreambeliever) decided that it’s time to make our position clear to the media: We don’t want and we don’t need sensationalism, period.

As you’ve probably already seen, that’s also part of the title of this thread, because we’re planning to start a campaign against the media and their way to manipulate their customers by twisting the truth and making up stories.

We came to the conclusion that it won’t bring us much further if we just address our complaints to the media, because that’s what all of us did all the time over the past years and they didn’t stop spreading lies about Michael.

So now we want to address our information about the manipulative manner of the media to the customers, because as long as they buy the tabloids and watch certain programmes, the media have no reason to change.

The thing is, those customers either just don’t know how completely false the given information of the media often are (“There must at least be an element of truth in it.”) or they somehow enjoy the sensationalism, because it makes themself feel better to read some negative news about other people and seeing them being humiliated.

We want them to realise that they believe whatever the media want them to believe and that this has nothing to do with information, and ask them, whether, in times of wars, suffering people all over the world and personal problems everyone has, some trashy news can really make them feel better.

So we’d like to create a website for the campaign, including an article from MeggyKate about the media, the lies the media told (and still tell) about Michael and the truth behind these stories.

But since we don’t want the people to believe that something like that only happened in Michael's case or we don’t want to risk them being not that interested because they are just not that interested in celebrities, we also want to give them other examples. Like politicians, who were slandered by the media, actors, or ordinary people who happened to be a target of the media.

To collect these information, we need your help. Of course we don’t know everything about everyone who’s ever been in the media and as we all know, it takes some time to find out true facts, but the more people contribute their knowledge, the more true information we can collect.

So please, if you know of a person who’s been a victim of the false reports of the media, let us know about it, here in the thread. And if you want to, you can collect the correct information about that person as well, but please give us the sources of your information because we have to add them to the article.

As for the website, we’d also like to provide something like a petition people can sign to agree in not wanting false information and sensationalism for anything.

And it would be really great if, sometime in the future, we got celebrities/their friends/ family or any other person who’s been a victim of the media before, to give us their statement about their opinion on the media for the website.

Well, that’s what we thought about so far. Of course we’re still at the very beginning and so every help is welcome, not only to collect information for MeggyKate's article but also to contribute ideas; how to let people know about the campaign, etc.

And the most important thing: Is there anyone here who can build the website for the campaign? Unfortunately, both of us don’t have very much experience in webdesign, so we would really need someone who knows about it, and is dependable to help us.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading and please let us know what you think about it and whether you want to contribute anything or help building the website.

Thanks!!

The world may not need it, but often it does want it... I agree that the amount of false reports, however, is unacceptable. The media should have the integrity to check their facts before publishing, the role of the media is not to portray fiction but FACT!
Good luck with your campaign! :)

i think, when the tabloids and media should be held accountable for their printed word, is if it is false, they cannot provide evidence of facts, because the ramifications of their printed word can be and have been, horrific to the person they are writing about. when there is a crime, a death, a career or personal life destroyed from their written word, they should be held accountable. unfortunately, we have very old laws, acts and constitutions allowing the tabloids to rape, violate, slander, degrade, gossip, humiliate, destroy, stalk and embarass under "freedom of speech" and "freedom of the press'. these platforms need to be refinded and reformed so that stuff like this doesn't continue. they created the destruction of many lives and careers.

Yes, Jane, that's right. Of course, some celebrities use the media and like the media to write about them, even if it's gossip, but that doesn't mean that everyone likes that and that a celebrity doesn't have the right to have a private life anymore and to not be slandered in public.

And many people just don't imagine that almost 99% of what's written in the tabloid press are just lies- the majority of people thinks they're exaggerating, but there's still a difference between exaggerating and making up a whole story.

And actually, most of the time, one can even see that the media write about things they don't know about themselves. They even don't have to declare something as a fact and still people believe it, just because "someone else assumes it".

Wow this is a great idea!!!

I have some experience in Web Design, and would love to help, but i only know HTML really, nothing like dreamweaver or flash. What do you want the website to be able to do??

Hey Jackie, thanks for offering your help with the website!

We already got a concept and a template. Motsey is kind enough to help us, he's at the moment trying to make a content manager work with the template we chose.
Hopefully it'll work, cause that of course would make it a lot easier to update the site, even if one doesn't know about webdesign.

When we know more, if it will work or not, I'll let you know about it and what kind of help we need with the design.

And as soon as we know it, we can also show a preview of the site, it looks quite good, actually :)

Of course everybody is still welcome to contribute content to the site!

Take care!
