MICHAEL JACKSON DIED FROM SLEEP DEPRIVATION, NOT DRUG ABUSE, SAYS RESEARCHER IN PUBLISHED NEW STUDY

As the First Anniversary of pop superstar Michael Jackson’s death approaches, researcher, drug counselor and author Maxim W. Furek claims that the tragic King of Pop died from complications of sleep deprivation, not drug abuse.

According to addictions researcher Maxim W. Furek, sleep deprivation was the common denominator linking the deaths of Michael Jackson, Anna Nicole Smith and Heath Ledger. All were gifted and talented, but, in the end, their lives intersected at the juncture where sleep deprivation and drug overdose defined their final days.

“Sleep deprivation was the single variable that all three shared,” Furek stated. “That condition inevitably led to the use of prescription drugs and overdose death.”
Furek explains that sleep deprivation is a serious condition that can become deadly. It is one of the most common health complaints, caused by insomnia or sleeplessness, and can lead to impaired mental and physical health. After periods of reduced sleep, brain neurons may begin to malfunction visibly affecting a person’s behavior. In sleep-deprived subjects there is no activity in the temporal lobe of the cerebral cortex, which is associated with the processing of language. Thus, in these individuals, there are signs of slurred speech, stuttering, speaking in a monotone voice or speaking at a slower pace than normal.
After an autopsy of Michael Jackson found lethal levels of the anesthetic propofol in his body, the Los Angeles County Coroner ruled the singer's death a homicide. Jackson's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, admitted that he had been treating the singer for insomnia for about six weeks, and had been giving Jackson 50 milligrams of propofol every night intravenously. The First Anniversary of Jackson’s death will be observed on June 25. The singer would have been 51 years of age.

The Jackson family released a statement commending the work of authorities in the case. "The Jackson family has full confidence in the legal process, and commends the ongoing efforts of the L.A. County Coroner, the L.A. District Attorney and the L.A. Police Department," the statement said. "The family looks forward to the day that justice can be served."

As of this writing the courtroom trials of Anna Nicole Smith and Michael Jackson are still pending. A judge has ruled that three people who allegedly furnished drugs to Anna Nicole Smith before she died will stand trial. Prosecutors say Smith's lawyer and boyfriend Howard K. Stern, 41, her psychiatrist and neighbor, Khristine Eroshevich, 62, and her physician, Sandeep Kapoor, 42, fed a steady stream of deadly drugs to the famous model, who died three years ago at age 39. Stern is charged with 11 felony counts, including prescribing a controlled substance to an addict; obtaining a prescription by deceit; fraud and conspiracy. Eroshevich and Kapoor each face six felony counts.
Furek’s research data will be published in an article titled “Sleep Deprivation and the Unholy Trinity of Celebrity Death” in the August issue of Counselor, The Magazine For Addictions Professionals.

Actor Heath Ledger died on January 22, 2008, his 28-year-old body discovered in a loft on Broome Street in New York’s SoHo district. The actor died from an accidental overdose of prescription medications, including painkillers, anti-anxiety drugs and sleeping pills. The New York City medical examiner's office determined that "Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine. We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications."

Ledger, who had received a best actor Oscar nomination for Brokeback Mountain, suffered from chronic insomnia and anxiety. Too many sleepless nights were coupled with exhausting film shoots, red-carpet events and grueling press campaigns. He told the New York Times in 2007, “Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night. I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” Curiously Ledger, who had so much more to give, will most likely be remembered for receiving a posthumous Oscar as the maniacal Joker in The Dark Knight.

In his book The Death Proclamation of Generation X: A Self-Fulfilling Prophesy of Goth, Grunge and Heroin, Furek identifies a cluster of Generation X celebrities who died due to drug-related issues. He states, “Those unfortunates include Nirvana leader Kurt Cobain, Alice In Chains lead singer Layne Staley and Hollywood actor River Phoenix. Anna Nicole Smith was also in that group,” the author said.

Because traditional sleep medications such as Ambien were ineffective, Anna Nicole Smith was prescribed the sedative chloral hydrate. The combination of chloral hydrate and a rash of benzodiazepines contributed to the death of the TV reality star on February 8, 2007.

Says researcher Furek, “Each decade we observe our iconic celebrities self-destructing in full view of their fans and a curious public. The slaughter persists --- note the deaths of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and countless others --- as does our vicarious fascination, our blood voyeurism. We need to stop the madness and view this as a ‘teachable moment’ where we renew our commitment to treatment and carry the message of prevention and recovery to those who need it most.”

Excellent article, thanks for posting.

Amen to that.

Thx for posting this mjdove, but ummmmm does this guy think he came up with anything new? Or did he just feel like "o its June, time to start thinking about MJ again"

We already knew MJ wasnt able to sleep... Thx to the likes of Tom... I mean D.S

I dont even want to get into this right now, I cant believe what this man had to go through in his life.

No, imo it's a study in general over the problem and not over Michael solely.

bullshit. this is the press trying to absolve their guilt. and the article does center around Michael. the title of the article says what it says. after the title, the message body is just running around, trying to be clever.

the whole article starts with the word 'theory', so, that is proof that they are pulling stuff out their.....

Thanks for the article but I never heard that sleep deprivation can be deadly. Or the direct cause of death. It's a chronic problem that needs to be dealt with.
This "no drug abuse" clause throws the ball off Murray's court. Again.
Off topic in Michael's case, the least I can say.

You're right - of course it can't - the title of this piece is deliberately misleading. The author of this "published" article has attached MJs name to increase interest in a piece of text which manages to drone on for several paragraphs and convey very little that is noteworthy, except for the misconception that the MJ was responsible for his own death with his "drug abuse".

Moving swiftly on...

Last I checked he STILL died at the "hands of another".

Having said that, yes, insomnia is cruel.
Exactly, insomnia can be hell but it shouldn't kill somone, michael is not here because intentionally or not someone else took his life carelessly.

NO! Michael died with a STRUGGLE while drugs were being FORCED into him!!

sleep deprivation can indeed be fatal like any health problem at its extreme form, but it's not MJ case...he died because of a doctor incompetence.

This...

Thanks for posting, though the coroner report stated all of the following -> 'Acute Propofol Intoxication' - 'At the hands of another' - 'Homicide'.
