Murray’s team asked for retest of the IV bag and the long tubing, they were aware at some point the spike was injected into that 1000mg propofol vial before Murray replaced it with the saline bag and if they could find any traces of propofol in that saline bag coming from the spike they would be able to plant some doubt in the jurors’ minds. The coroner said on the stand, the expert told him based on the configuration of the IV catheter and the distance between the injection port and the tip in the catheter she believed MJ would not have been able to inject himself. If chernoff could find traces of propofol anywhere in the long tube or the IV bag he could argue MJ could have infused it and then the coroner won’t be able to say that theory was not plausible. Urine concentration was 0.10ug/ml; stomach concentration was 0.13ug/ml. The coroner testified that 0.13ug/ml was a very very small concentration .
the concentration in his urine was even smaller, if you take into account that propofol starts to redistribute from the brain, blood and liver within minutes thus its concentrations in those organs decline sharply within minutes , the opposite happens in urine. Propofol end up in the urine completely thus its concentration should have been higher if he was receiving it for along time or as some believe via an IV drip . where were the amounts he supposedly received for hours or even for 15, 20, 30, 40 minutes before his death?
