THRILLER Live, the West End concert spectacular, has played its 2,901st performance at the Lyric Theatre, thereby passing Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita, which opened in 1978, to become the 17th Longest Running West End Musical of all time.

Thriller Live is currently booking until September 4, 2016. It will start its 8th year in the West End in January and will soon pass another major landmark – 3,000 West End performances.

Thriller Live has now taken more than $150million at the global box office.

Producers Paul Walden & Derek Nicol said: “Becoming the 17th Longest Running West End Musical of all time is yet another amazing milestone in the history of our show. Very few productions have ever run this long in the West End and we are grateful to the fans of Michael Jackson who have taken the show to their hearts.”

Thriller Live looks very different to the version that first opened in the West End in January, 2009. A brand new version of the show, with four new songs, a new opening, new production elements including new video, new costumes and special effects, opened last month.

Thriller Live continues to set and break records and play new territories around the globe. In 2016, Egypt will become the 32nd country to premiere the show.

Thriller Live continues to entertain people worldwide and producers have announced that the show will now extend its run in London’s West End, will undertake a new UK tour in 2017 and has just opened a new resort in China.

Thriller Live first opened in London’s West End in January 2009, just before the untimely death of Michael Jackson, and is now currently the 10th Longest running show – musical or play – in West End history. It also now holds the record as the longest running show at the Lyric Theatre since the theatre opened in 1888.

Producers have announced that Thriller has just extended its run until October 2017 and tickets are now on sale.

The show’s producers have also announced that Thriller Live will undertake a major UK and European tour in 2017. Dates will be posted on our Thriller Tour page.

On Friday 30 September, Thriller Live opened in the People’s Republic Of China in the new 1200 seat Parisian Theatre at the Sands Parisian Macao Hotel in Macao, where it will play for seven weeks.

Thriller Live is unlike other West End musicals. There is no script or story, it is instead a eye-popping spectacular concert celebration of Michael Jackson’s music and dance legacy, bringing to life on stage his amazing high-energy dancing and the pulsating sound of many of pop’s greatest hits, and features specially created video footage and effects and dazzling choreography by the show’s award-winning director, Gary Lloyd.

A London West End musical based on the life of the late Michael Jackson is being presented at the newly-opened The Parisian Macao resort to much audience acclaim.

"We know that Michael Jackson is considered by many to be the greatest Western entertainer of all time and that, in China, he is very popular. We feel that the show and Michael's music appeals to many age groups and cultures and we want to showcase the very best shows here at The Parisian Theatre," Tomos Griffiths, Executive Creative Director of Sands China, told China.org.cn to explain why it was chosen as the debut show for the new theater.

With the opening of the 1,200-seat theater at The Parisian Macao, Sands China Ltd is adding another dimension to its entertainment strategy in building up Macao as Asia's top entertainment destination.

From live music concerts to Broadway and Vegas-style shows, the new state-of-the-art theater plans to bring top entertainment from around the world to Macao, complementing existing entertainment venues such as The Venetian Theatre and the Cotai Arena.

"We also have many very exciting projects in the pipeline," Griffiths promised.

Direct from London's West End where it is now in its eighth year, Thriller Live is a 90-minute, high-energy explosion of pop, rock, soul and disco that takes the audience on a magical audio-visual journey through Michael Jackson's 45-year musical legacy.

From Sept. 30 - Nov. 13, except for a rest day every Thursday, audiences will have the chance to cheer and dance along while listening to some of the most well-known Michael Jackson songs over the years.

"The show has undergone a few changes since coming to China. We have changed some of the songs, and the lighting and video is constantly being upgraded. The director, Gary Lloyd, has also changed the song order in places," said Thriller Live tour manager Phil Watts. The show toured the Chinese mainland in Beijing and Guangzhou in 2010 and was well received.

Leading the cast of talented performers are Cleo Higgins and Rory Taylor. Cleo was lead singer of 90s R&B pop group Cleopatra, who had five hit singles in the UK and were recruited by Madonna's Maverick label in the US.

The group appeared on Jay Leno's Tonight show and the Queen Latifah show and toured the US extensively. Cleo has since worked with such music stars as the Spice Girls and Lenny Kravitz, released several singles and now appears regularly on television in the UK, including BBC 1's program The Voice.

Meanwhile Rory is a singer and musician from the UK whose band 54321 has released two albums and performed alongside major acts including Ace Of Base and The Beach Boys. He has appeared in high-profile international tours of shows such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Rent The Musical, West End Women and Thriller Live.

The tour manager pointed out the show is very demanding for singers, dancers and musicians. "After eight years we are lucky enough to have a pool of performers we can call on, and we also hold regular auditions in both the UK and the US in order to discover new talent to join the show. Every performer comes to us as a big MJ fan to start with, so we have a common standard, presenting a show that would surely make Michael proud," he said.

Thriller Live has performed to over 4 million fans in 32 countries with a total of over 5,000 shows. It is the longest-running production in the 127-year history of its West End home, The Lyric Theatre.

The show first entered the record books in October 2014 when it became the 20th longest running musical in West End history. It has since climbed the charts and will become the 16th longest running musical in December 2016.

"To have such a long running show in the West End is an outstanding achievement and to stand side by side with shows such as The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and many other iconic works is a testament to Michael Jackson as well as the talented creative team, casts and crew who work tirelessly on the show," Watts added.

THRILLER LIVE BECOMES 15TH LONGEST RUNNING MUSICAL
Reporter: Rachel Jessop, first published Wed 08 Feb 2017 16:03

Champagne flowed and a massive cake was cut last night as one of the West End’s longest running musicals celebrated reaching a major landmark.

Last weekend, on Saturday 4 February, after 3,358 performances at the Lyric Theatre, Thriller Live smashed the long-held record of Jesus Christ Superstar, which opened in 1972, to become the 15th Longest Running Musical in West End history.

The current cast and creative team also celebrated starting their 9th year in the West End at an aftershow party in the Lyric Theatre, where the production is also the longest running show in the theatre’s history.

Leading the cast on stage were Cleo Higgins, best known as the lead singer of 90s R’n’B/pop group Cleopatra, and Haydon Eshun, who had personal cause to celebrate as the evening’s show marked his 2,545th performance in Thriller Live, which is believed to be the longest run ever by a lead role in a West End musical. Fellow lead vocalist, Reece Bahia, 21, first saw the show aged 9, and decided there and then that he wanted to be in it! Last night some of the biggest cheers from the audience came after his spine-tingling rendition of She’s Out of My Life.

Also joining in the celebrations was original 2009 Thriller Live cast member Ben Forster, who went on to win Andrew Lloyd Webber’s TV hunt for a star to play Jesus in his arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar and is currently starring as the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera.

Last night’s show also saw new effects added to the production, including spectaularly noisy, state-of-the-art turbo-charged smoke jets.

A concert spectacular created to celebrate the career of the world’s greatest entertainer, Michael Jackson and The Jackson Five, Thriller Live is currently the 7th longest running West End Musical still playing - but that will change again when Jersey Boys closes in March.

Thriller Live recently announced yet another new West End booking period to October 1, 2017. Book your tickets today!

Re: Thriller Live - celebrates selling 1,000,000 tickets in West End

Although Thriller Live has performed well in the West End I don't think it gets as much attention or has as much recognition as some of the other shows it has surpassed.
If I walked down the street on the South Coast and asked people if they knew about Thriller Live I guess most people would say "no", and those who have heard of it would probably have seen the promo for the Thriller Live Tour (it has visited this area a few times). It just doesn't seem to receive much (if any) publicity outside London. I have never seen a TV segment discussing it. I have never seen the cast perform on TV to promote it. Other shows, like Jesus Christ Superstar, have at times been very good at promoting themselves. The last few times I went to London I didn't even see any posters or billboards for Thriller Live. A few years ago they were all over the place.

Is it performing so well that it doesn't need to promote itself?? Or is it just a bad promotional strategy?

Thriller Live, the theatrical concert that commemorates one of the world’s greatest entertainers, Michael Jackson, is back in Macau to entertain spectators with the legendary performer’s hits from 1983 onwards. The show returned to The Parisian Theater last week after its successful run in September 2016.

Acclaimed theater producer and creator of Thriller Live, Adrian Grant, said that the team’s new cast members includes singers and dancers. The show will be performed in town until September 3.

Macau Daily Times (MDT) – Thriller Live is slated to once again perform in Macau due to its popular demand. Was the group expecting to have such an early return?

Adrian Grant (AD) – We thought the show would be popular in Macau because there are so many Michael Jackson fans in China, but it is definitely a surprise to be back so soon. However, it is also a privilege to be returning to The Parisian Macao, which has a wonderful theatre, and we were honored to be their first big production.

MDT – What are the main factors that the show has that make the audience want to see more of it?

AD – Thriller Live is the ultimate celebration of Michael Jackson’s music. We don’t tell the story of Michael’s life, but we celebrate the King of Pop via 90 minutes of song and dance. It’s a feel-good show that the whole family can enjoy. I’d say we have one of the hardest working casts out there, and the audience certainly gets their money’s worth with a high-tempo, high-energy production.

MDT – Are there differences between Macau audiences and Western audiences? If so, does the group have a different approach/setting for these audiences?

AD – When it comes to Michael Jackson fans there is no difference! His music is universal – whether it is a song about love and peace, or a fast-paced dance song, it all has the same effect on audiences around the world. However, it is true to say tºhat Michael loved China very much, and our cast certainly felt a lot of passion from the audiences in Macau the first time we were here.

MDT – Thriller Live is named after the best-selling album of all time. What were the opportunities and challenges it faced as it demanded high expectations from spectators?

AD – From day one it has always been important to cast the best talent we could find. Michael Jackson was a perfectionist and always strived to do his best. I have had this instilled in me, and the whole production team realize that in creating this celebration of Michael’s work, we have to deliver a first-class show.

MDT – Are there plans to hold future tours in Asia?

AD – We have played in 32 different countries around the world to over 4 million people, but yes, there are still many places that we would still like to tour, including parts of Asia – where Michael Jackson had such a loyal following.

MDT – Thriller Live is in its 9th year. What can the audience – who have and haven’t seen earlier versions of the the musical – expect this year? Will there be changes in its dance moves, audio-visual and such?

AD – We are lucky that we have a great team of lead singers, dancers, band and crew, led by our fabulous director and choreographer, Gary Lloyd, and musical director, John Maher. The creative team has kept close to my original vision, but the show has changed a lot from its first tour in 2007 as we constantly look to improve the production. There are many aspects of the show that are updated each year, as we aim to keep it fresh for returning audiences and look to maintain the high standards that Michael Jackson delivered.

I would prefer it if Thriller Live were an official project by the MJ Estate but it's great to see Thriller Live continuing to be very successful with its West End and touring shows. That's bound to benefit the MJ Estate in some way. I saw it in 2010 and have recently thought about booking to see the touring show when it comes to my part of the country.

Peter Andre has confirmed he is set to star in Thriller Live in the West End London.

Peter, 46, is set to sing in the play for two weeks in the West End musical and says the allegations should be put aside to enjoy the music.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Peter said: ‘I’m going to be doing more the Off The Wall era, not really the later stuff. I love that music, the first album I bought was Off The Wall.’

Addressing the allegations against Michael Jackson, Peter explained: ‘I have always said that we’ve got to keep the music separate. The reason I say that, one is because if you’re going to go there and say you can’t listen to the music because there’s allegations, do you listen to the music pre any supposed allegations, where do you go with it?

Continuing to defend his musical idol, Peter told Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard: ‘This show is about the music.

‘I always have to say that they are allegations.

‘A friend of mine who loved R Kelly as much as they loved Michael Jackson, will not listen to R Kelly because they saw video footage, evidence, whatever the documentary was. I think that might be where the difference is, is this is still based on allegations. It doesn’t mean there’s no truth in it or you can in any way ignore it. But we’re not at that point where we know what happened.

Living in a politically correct environment, it would have been nicer to see Peter taking a stand for Michael but instead he just avoid the question by using the card “we’ve got to keep the music separate”

Well, Peter, no! Michael Jackson is innocent – full stop! Is that hard to say? Going to perform on a full on Michael Jackson show, that is what we expected from Peter Andre!

Peter Andre has defended his appearance in a Thriller musical after renewed sexual abuse allegations against Michael Jackson.
Further accusations were levelled against the late pop superstar in the documentary Leaving Neverland, which featured graphic claims of abuse.

Andre is set to star in a West End production of Thriller, and has defended the continued prominence of Jackson’s music.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain he said: “I’ve always said that I think we’ve got to keep the music separate.
“If you’re going to go there and say you can’t listen to the music because there are allegations, OK, well do you listen to the music pre and supposed allegations? Where do you go with it?

“This show is about the music. I always have to say that they are allegations.”

Leaving Neverland aired in two parts on Channel 4 earlier this year.

It featured Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who alleged they were sexually abused by Jackson, prompting a renewed backlash against the pop star, who died in 2009.

The Jackson estate and his family dismissed the film as “yet another lurid production in an outrageous and pathetic attempt to exploit and cash in on” the late singer.

Andre is to guest star in Thriller for two weeks in December.

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays from 6am on ITV.
