Controversial MJ Documentary Leaving Neverland [GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD]

I was in contact with a person on twitter who says she is working in the business with awards and in her experience people do have to pay to earn awards and she is trying to find an email adress to someone to contact at the Emmys. It was the MJ Cast who asked for an email adress. But what is your opinion, if it is that corrupt do you think that will only be turned against us?

Well, I have been listening to everything just morning and no one is talking about LN but talking about Kelly. I only see about the nom on 3 sites but no where else even thought they are talking about Emmy. People know this is trash.

In my opinion, "RBG - CNN" will most likely be the winner in these 2 categories. She is the oldest female member of the Supreme Court and is LOVED, LOVED, LOVED by Hollywood. I believe she is almost 85 years old (and STILL an active member of the Supreme Court). I would be very surprised if the Emmy voters didn't highlight her MANY achievements by giving her these 2 awards.

P.S. After reading about LN being nominated yesterday, I felt sick to my stomach. Knowing that NONE of these categories will be in the main ceremony makes me feel much better. I know it's just a little thing, but at this point I'll take anything.

If LN wins all or even at least 1 award out of these nominations, I'm gonna lash and bash at the Emmy's.

I suggest the Emmy go back and learn the meaning of NONFICTION.

Totally agree, how can this happen when it's clearly a pack of lies, I just batters my head that anyone can say anything and it's get an award, what happens if they are shown for what they are will they get the award taken off them

On a positive note I've heard Man In The Mirror twice on different radio stations in the past week :) Canada is back on board with MJ, Im noticing his music in public more now.

I said the same the other day, my local station are always playing MJ songs, don't stop till u get enough on the drive home from my daughters home today

The explosive and controversial Michael Jackson documentary Leaving Neverland is among this year’s list of Emmy nominees.

The HBO documentary nabbed five nominations, including outstanding directing for a documentary/nonfiction program; outstanding documentary or nonfiction special; outstanding picture editing for a nonfiction program; outstanding sound editing for a nonfiction program; and outstanding sound mixing for a nonfiction program.

In the film, two men — Wade Robson and James Safechuck — allege that the late music icon sexually abused them when they were children. The Jackson estate has sued HBO and slammed the documentary, calling it “another rehash of dated and discredited allegations.”

Leaving Neverland premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. In the documentary, both Robson, 36, and Safechuck, 40, detail their alleged inappropriate experiences with Jackson.

Safechuck met Jackson when he was cast in the singer’s 1986 Pepsi commercial. He said the pop star took him and his family on tour, where their relationship allegedly turned sexual when Jackson taught Safechuck how to masturbate.

“He set it up like I’m going to show you something that everybody does and you’ll enjoy it,” Safechuck said. “It felt like you were bonding, in a way. The tour was the start of this sexual, like, couple relationship.”

Robson met Jackson when he was 5 years old after he won a shopping mall dancing competition in his native Australia. By 1990, when Robson was 7 years old, the family came into contact with Jackson again during a vacation in Los Angeles. Robson alleged Jackson convinced Robson’s mother to let him stay over alone with the singer while the rest of his family went on a trip to the Grand Canyon; Robson alleged Jackson performed oral sex on him and kissed him while his family was away, claiming Jackson told him, “You and I were brought together by God. We were meant to be together. This is how we show love.”

Safechuck alleged the singer trained him to cover their tracks early on.

“He would run drills with me where we’d be in the hotel room and he would pretend like somebody was coming in and you had to get dressed as fast as possible without making noise,” Safechuck said.

Similarly, Robson claimed Jackson told him if anyone “ever found out what we were doing about the sexual stuff, that he and I would be pulled apart and we would never be able to see each other again. And that he and I would go to jail for the rest of our lives.”

Robson and Safechuck had both denied being molested by Jackson in the past, before he died in 2009. Robson previously appeared as a witness for Jackson’s defense during a sexual abuse trial in 2005 in which the pop star was acquitted of child molestation charges.

The Jackson estate came out swinging before Leaving Neverland even premiered at Sundance.

“This is yet another lurid production in an outrageous and pathetic attempt to exploit and cash in on Michael Jackson,” the Jackson estate said in a statement in January.

In late February, two co-executors of Jackson’s estate and Optimum Productions sued HBO and its parent company, Time Warner, for $100 million, claiming that airing the two-part film would violate a non-disparagement clause, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. “Michael Jackson is innocent. Period,” the lawsuit says in part.

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, HBO responded: “Despite the desperate lengths taken to undermine the film, our plans remain unchanged. HBO will move forward with the airing of Leaving Neverland. … This will allow everyone the opportunity to assess the film and the claims in it for themselves.”

"Billie Jean" and "The Way You make Me Feel" was played on a local radio station in my hometown as I mentioned previously.

I agree. this doesn't need to win anything even if isn't in the main ceremony. the only awards this movie needs to win is to be taken out to the trash.

Not MJ related but guess how many nominations Game of thrones got, 32!!! So maybe it will not be so hard to convince a somewhat rational person that HBO bought their way in to the Emmy awards..

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The big news of the Emmy nomination for the world (outside <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/MJFam?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#MJFam</a>) was not LN but the fact that HBO&#39;s Game of Thrones got 32 nominations which is a new record. So HBO swept the nominations and boy they were pushing hard or it:<a href="https://t.co/aBDBcD65cp">https://t.co/aBDBcD65cp</a></p>&mdash; Justice for The Falsely Accused (@JuliaBerkowitz1) <a href="https://twitter.com/JuliaBerkowitz1/status/1151529735048105984?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 17, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

I know these nominations are disheartening, but don't focus on a single tree - look at the forest. Once the awards are over with and the court cases are done, LN will be behind us and Michael's legacy will still be there. Hopefully with a nice boost from Taj's documentary.

Darkness will always put up a fight when it is threatened. It swarms out of desperation. And that swarm can make it look like they are winning. But it's just a smokescreen. It's happening all over the planet right now; the corrupt elite and the ignorant masses resisting change and trying to cling to power through nefarious means. They can fight it and they can try to delay it, but in the end, they will lose. And when they try to cover corruption with more corruption, all they do is make the corruption more visible. Look at what happened with Epstein and all of the other corruption in politics and abuse in Hollywood that's been brought to the light. You can't bury the truth forever. Certainly not in this day and age.

For Michael's name to be cleared, there has to be a catalyst to set in motion the chain of events that ultimately leads to justice. And that catalyst is likely to be something negative. Maybe LN will end up being the catalyst, or maybe it will be something else further down the line. But for all the damage that LN has done, it put the spotlight back on Michael, enabling Taj to do his documentary and Geraldine Hughes to do her film. It's led some people who thought Michael was guilty to doing the research and changing their mind. It's triggered a fresh wave of love and appreciation for Michael and uprising of fans across the world.

We just have to be patient and withstand whatever comes. It might take a while, but we will win eventually. Keep the faith.
