Science Fiction movie review of Ad Astra:

 

^ That was such an intelligent discussion from these guys. I am impressed Bigi has such an understanding on the main theme in the film Apocalypse Now, and I wonder if he was ever assigned in school the novel, The Heart of Darkness. It is more of a college level book, but advanced classes in high school perhaps read and discuss it. The guys did a good job in getting me curious about Ad Astra. Maybe I will go see it.

Have you read Heart of Darkness? I have always wanted to but haven't gotten around to it, yet. It's on my very long reading list.
 
I have read Heart of Darkness two or three times over the years. It is a great book. Before I read it the first time(college assignment) I saw Apocalypse Now a few years prior
in the theaters when it first came out. I was in my young twenties. That movie affected me very much. But I gained so much more understanding through reading the novel. And Bigi is so right on...it questions the idea of if society's view of right or wrong necessarily must be honored when living off in the middle of nowhere or in the heart of darkness(isolation) where you can create your own right or wrong. Who's to stop you; who's to tell you you are wrong?

So I'm gathering from what the guys shared about Ad Astra that it deals with this same theme. Btw, for years when in a group situation where they would do an "ice breaker" and I would be asked what my favorite movie was of all time, I would say, "Apocalypse Now," and would enjoy watching the reaction. haha.
