Controversial MJ Documentary Leaving Neverland [GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD]

The only ones who feel that are non black people. Blacks know what this feels like. It has been the life of many blacks. Image those who have this and went to prison and now being let out after 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 years for a crime they did NOT commit. And when u see some blacks go along with this (very few but their are some Like Oprah, Ava), it is to "think" they will stay in good grace with whites and the powers that be. WELCOME TO BLACK AMERICA or just being black.
I think you misunderstood what she meant: it's not that she doesn't believe in false accusation (at all). It's the exacte opposite, she just feels that what MJ went through was so horrible that would be only bearable if it was done to someone guilty. For many people it's simply more comforting to be wilfully blind about MJ because it would be too frightening to realise that an innocent person could have been treated like this (not just being falsely accused but being treated so inhumanly throughout, while the information about his innocence was always out there). This lady on the other hand was willing to face the truth and knows MJ's innocent - that's exactly what makes it insufferable for her what he must had gone trough.

Here's someone else talking about similar feelings, maybe making it more clear:

"I wanted him to be guilty" hit me like a sledgehammer, because I felt the same. The implications of him being innocent after what he went through has changed me forever. It is extremely depressing, and I pointed this out at the London premiere of "Square One"

I have to admit that the whole experience has fundamentally changed the way I look at the world, and not necessarily for the better. It makes me incredibly sad. It would have been easier to deal with,if I was convinced he was guilty

What I find especially shocking was the ease with which you can not only find tons of information that casts doubt on his guilt, but the reluctance to give him a fair shake by the media. The reporting was and still is obscenely biased.

Fair enough but I still think it is brave of her to speak up like this.

And having an open mind and willingness to investigate to begin with. Fans are following the cases for decades so it's easier for us to know the truth, but the general "neutral" public have been exposed to MJ's character assassination for 30 years now. Lies about him were taken at face value even by respected (!) media outlets (it's not just the tabloids that flat out lied about e.g. the trial, sadly). And even though the information is out there and traceable, it's not presented in MSM, so in a way it's "hidden" because everyone must find it out by themselves.

Oh I agree but the point I am making this is nothing new when it comes to blacks. Like it or not, in our society, there are people who will believe blacks are guilty when they are accused no matter when the evidence even show innocent. I am glad she is willing to admit it when it comes to MJ.

Again, I understand what she meant I just explain her "view" what some/many think when it comes to blacks in general. She was just willing to say it out loud after she realized her bias in MJ's case.

Does Danny Wu have the ability to delete comments from the Square One documentary on youtube? I mean, I am all for open debate but when there are trolls like "Künstlerin-DAB1995" posting the same nonsense on every comment, they should get cleaned up and banned.

Those idiots are too obsessed with MJ to cancelled him. Yeah right.

Those idiots are too obsessed with MJ to cancelled him. Yeah right.

Exactly! If Michael was cancelled, then his name should never come out of their mouths. BUT, like I said earlier this year, they have this "Fatal Attraction" thing going with Michael that they can't let go. In the end, Michael was celebrated more and will be for years to come, even after we're gone.

What is their logic anyway? MJ has always been successful in spite of the media, not because of them. Why would they think that piling on more of the same BS would cancel MJ?

This is slightly OT but kinda connected to what we are discussing here.

Michael had a very low Q rating after the 2005 trial and people assumed he was finished. Yet still, in 2009 he sold out the O2 arena 50 times and caused pandemonium when he visited London to announce the dates. A decade after his death, projects like Thriller Live and MJOne are doing well.

Other entertainers, with better Q ratings and who are seen as popular and well-liked by the general public, do not see the same level of success that Michael experienced in life and in death.

That says something about Michael and his talent, his impact. It says that Michael - long ago - moved beyond the need to be seen as popular.

Like I said, #CancelCulture is a disease out there. They’ve been doing it to Michael for months and in Canada they’re doing it to Don Cherry. We have to end this epidemic!

People are getting sick of it overall. I think it is more media pushing than the overall public (other than haters).

Indeed, by poisoning their brains with lies and deceit.

This is how CNN published their article first (they changed the middle picture later when people called them out, fortunately readers took screenshots):

Another award, this from from The 'International Documentary Association' (IDA).

LN is so notable, that almost 1 year after its premiere it seems hardly any journalists can recall its title.

This article also of course doesn't mention that HBO is a sponsor of the IDA awards. Strange that the Oscars are mentioned with regard to LN, but not with regard to any of the other programmes/ films mentioned. I've not included the whole article, just short segments.

‘For Sama’ Wins Top IDA Documentary Award; ‘Finding Neverland’ and ‘The Cave’ Also Score

....Dan Reed’s searing Michael Jackson exposé “Leaving Neverland” scored Best Multi-Part Documentary; HBO did not submit the Sundance premiere for the Oscars.

..............Netflix’s “Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé,” directed by Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Ed Burke, won Best Music Documentary, accepted by musician and memoirist Moby, who offered the filmmakers in the room financing for a movie about the impact of animal agriculture on climate change.

........................Presented by her friend Chelsea Handler, Leah Remini took home the inaugural Truth to Power Award for exposing abuse within the Church of Scientology in her series “Leah Remini: Scientology and its Aftermath.” The Amicus Award went to the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press for their work in defending press freedoms for almost 50 years.

I hadn’t heard of it either. Sometimes I think they just make these awards up, because they can’t win any real awards.
