Controversial MJ Documentary Leaving Neverland [GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD]

Thank you- I really appreciate that :flowers:

I think I'm just taking a slightly different view because after last year, I'm glad that a publication like the Guardian is saying *anything remotely positive* about MJ's music, even if the comments on the music are laced with 'allegation' references.

My different take on this is that anyone who likes MJ's music 'casually', will probably read the article and realise that (despite LN) this writer accepts that MJ's music is not 'media- / public opinion-cancelled'. And 'haters' will read that too, and maybe accept the fact - and hopefully stop complaining to radio stations/ DJ's etc when his music is played.

And very importantly on social media if anyone says 'yes, but *the allegations*', articles like these give fans a chance to respond and give more information to show that LN was indeed trash. And so by very small 'baby steps', fans can push back, minute by minute and day by day. Like a glacier, the sheer relentlessness and weight of fan's opinion (backed by evidence and by sharing important information hidden by the media) will (and is already) carrying the truth to a wider audience.

So while I can thoroughly disagree with the way an article like this (in the Guardian) is written, I'm content to use it as a platform from which to engage with people who may not be members of the fan community on social media, and who need to see the real truth. (Even if they don't like that truth).

(Edited to add...And as a general point, anyone who likes a particular song usually finds it hard to dislike the singer. A love of MJ's music is the surest route to a curiosity about and a love for the true MJ himself).

To me it's just them admitting defeat on the "cancel MJ's music" field and moving on to plan B. Now you're graciously allowed to listen to his music without having to justify yourself to the public (thanks Guardian), but slow down there, it doesn't mean he's, like, innocent and we were wrong on the whole cancelling thing. Just listen to the dance man's songs and don't think about them too much. Accept our, I mean the public's verdict on him as a human, and ignore those crazies with their court transcripts, dates and stuff. We therefore absolve you of any guilt and lift the obligation to dedicate time and effort needed to form your own opinion.

^ Thanks for these posts. That’s what I was trying to say. :)

It’s a new way of trying to put MJ “back in his place” as a song and dance man. Be extremely careful with these people. They’re more dangerous than the obvious liars we had to deal with last year.

Just quoting from an article here - for 'Irony' re. HBO....
What happened to Black justice where MJ is concerned? There are more ways of 'killing' a man than kneeling on his neck.

Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, HBO and Other Hollywood Players Take a Stand in Support of Black Lives Matter Movement Amid George Floyd Protests

A number of other entertainment brands have followed suit on Saturday night, as protests gained momentum throughout the nation. HBO, HBO Max, TBS, TNT all changed their Twitter handles to #BlackLivesMatter and posted statements of support.

Are you following Taj on Twitter? A couple of months ago, some of those people simply blocked all of Taj’s followers.

There's a TON of people posting stuff for this (although I've seen people say to use the #BlackoutTuesday hashtag and not the BLM one because the BLM one should be reserved for posts with protest info), so these two posts are just two of millions lost in the shuffle. No doubt they're doing it to look good to the crowd, though.

Yes, this is on topic. Wait til you get to the end. ;)

^I'm not sure I understand his point though.

He's right that 'certain comedians' play to their racist audiences, but that's WHY they were 'massively outspoken about these documentaries'.
(No UK comedians supported MJ, to my recollection).

Yes, but they’re not outspoken about #BLM. That’s his point. That the usual loudmouths are suspiciously quiet right now, because they apparently know they usually play to a racist audience.

An MJ fan on Twitter thanked him for his Tweet btw. and Dane retweeted it. :)

Be very careful with this. just because people are changing their icons black and saying blacklivesmatter doesn't mean anything. some of them doing it for likes and attention etc. so please don't be fool by this thing.

I couldn't get the Radio 5 thing to play...Nihal is a massive ABORT button for me though usually. If MJ came up, I can't imagine him spouting anything but his misinformed ignorant views from various The Sun headlines.

It’s Dane Baptiste talking in that piece, not the other guy. ;)

That's just sad. is it only one group or it's mixed?

UK comedians on TV are mostly white (British / European) or Asian. (There are also plenty of comedians who visit from the USA and Canada). But until Dave Chapelle spoke out, almost no-one of any background was supporting MJ - because LN and the support from Oprah etc made the subject toxic. (Sheep mentality).

The entertainment sheep won't speak out for MJ until it is 'publicly safe' to do so. (Maybe if / when Wade and James' lies become sufficiently publicised and recognised.)

..and the BAFTA nominations show themselves to be as 'bought' as every other award. At least these scammers won't be able to go and collect any award in person. :

BAFTA TV Nominations: ‘Chernobyl’ Leads The Way After Being Recognized In 14 Categories

Chernobyl is leading the pack for this year’s BAFTA TV Awards and BAFTA TV Craft Awards after the Sky and HBO original scored 14 nominations, including best drama mini-series.

The nuclear disaster drama’s 14 nods mean it is the most-nominated show in BAFTA history alongside Killing Eve last year, which was also recognized in 14 categories (full nominees below). As well as best mini-series, there are individual nominations for Jared Harris as lead actor and Stellan Skarsgård as best supporting actor.

...The nominations and awards themselves have been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. The main BAFTA TV Awards were due to take place on May 17, but will now be held virtually on July 31, with The IT Crowd’s Richard Ayoade hosting. The BAFTA TV Craft Awards are scheduled for July 17.

...The BBC scored a total of 79 nominations, while Sky had a record 25 nods, with Netflix was just behind with 24.
