Controversial MJ Documentary Leaving Neverland [GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD]

I don't think we should ignore radio station that have stopped playing MJ. They need to be called out

If there are any odd ones here and there I don't think it hurts to call them out on it. They are being selfish. Who does banning him actually punish? MJ? Nope, he doesn't know anything about all of this. Charities? Yeah, maybe. Tell them 20% (apparently 400 million dollars?) of earnings goes to charity since he died and if they try to cancel him then the money dries up for those in need. Just because they have a hunch he did something wrong? So irrational.

MJ's music getting banned from some radio stations makes him look guilty, because people will say ''If he was innocent then why is his music being banned?'' - This is not good for Michael's reputation. I think fans should pick they're battles wisely, and this is something that's worth fighting.

I think it helps to wear MJ merch as well, so the general public know that many people don't think he is guilty and things carry on as they were.

Well, everyone else is playing MJ so these fools at that station is not hurting MJ. They are in the minority probably wanted to stop playing MJ anyway because what has been revealed about LN, no one in their right mind would buy into.

Absolute were the biggest mj players on uk radio before leaving Neverland, so yes it does hurt mj estate.

It's not only absolute 80s that stopped playing mj. It was ALL the Absolute stations.

Were Absolute really the biggest? I think BBC radio played him a lot (they even had Thriller on at Christmas time LOL) and they still do play his songs across the board. Those that stopped I thought might be the ones who don't really rely on him for listeners anyway?

I agree that we need to approach radio stations that are not playing Michael and ask why. But it must be in a respectful manner (no histrionics!!!). When they respond, we will need to provide reasoned arguments.

And the MJ fandom needs to be visible for the rest of the year - celebrating and honouring Michael - so that these stations can fully appreciate that Michael is still the KOP.

Does anyone know if Smooth Radio in London is still not playing Michael? That is the station I listen to when I am in London

I agree. i know this year been a mess for us MJfans and supporters but we all need to calm down and be respectful. yeah. it's looking like this whole year gonna be about Michael. the good and the bad. Michael will always be the King. nobody can't replace him. you when think about it Michael basically did everything to be honest.

LN shouldn't even be nominate i already said if it wins any award i lost hope for this world. it's so sick. they ruining Michael reputation. i really hope everyone who apart of this gets sued. :( Michael not here to defend himself. it's really sad and heartbreaking.

I just called out Absolute 80's on Twitter. This an 80's UK radio station that hasn't played any MJ since March 2nd, and an 80's music station with no MJ is just not right.

Here's what I wrote.

Leave Me Alone - Michael Jackson

You guys haven’t played any MJ since March 2nd. I’m guessing this is to do with that Leaving Neverland film. I emailed them this week too. What about the Global network in the UK? Magic, Smooth, Heart etc. They all used to play a lot of MJ. Any indication they are still playing him? I'm not so sure they are...

The only major station I'm sure still playing MJ is BBC Radio 2.

And you know now that I think back to the timing of Absolute pulling MJ it coincides perfectly with that huge, and probably planted, story about the BBC banning Michael Jackson's music. It crossed my mind at the time but I'm sure of it now.

I'm so disappointed that Spike Lee has confirmed (via officialspikelee on Twitter) that there will be no 'MJ Block Party' this year.

Spike has held an annual Block Party for MJ in late August each year up to now.

On 30th June there is a 'Do the Right Thing Way' Block party.

Well that's a downer. I wouldn't have been able to make it to the one this year anyway (can't spend TOO much money on trips lol) but it's disappointing for those who were planning to go. Also hope this isn't an indicator of what he thinks of Michael now.

Sadly I haven't heard Michael Jackson on any Canadian radio stations in 2 months :( And I listen everyday.

I mostly listen to an oldies station and when I’m at work and able to have the radio on, there are days he’s not played and then on the days he’s on, it’s only once and it’s only either Billie Jean or Thriller. I don’t really listen to top 40’s stations anymore so I don’t know if he’s being played on there.

I'm reading that Brussels has cancelled an event that would have involved an MJ 'Billie Jean' costume. Apparently the 'Manneken Pis' (Please google-images it) is the centre of a ceremony where it is dressed in different costumes; this year it would have been dressed as 'MJ 'Billie Jean'.

To be honest, I can see why the town dignitaries would cancel this costume this year, although it seems ridiculous that they did so at such short notice. (I think it may just have provoked more mockery of MJ. I expect the worldwide press would have used the images to make more 'noise' about the allegations).

This seems to be a 'google translate' version of what happened.

Manneken and won't dance Billie Jean!

Just a few days away from this sad tenth anniversary, we regret having to communicate this to you:

A project that the mjbackstage was planning long-time has just been blocked by the political authorities of the city of Brussels, while it had been accepted more than a year ago. To honor the memory of the greatest artist of all time and celebrate artistic genius, we planned a unique event, typically Brussels: the ceremony of a king of pop's costume at... Manneken pis. Tradition means that the statue of the ketje is regularly dressed with specific costumes. A true folklore, with ceremony at the city hall on the grand-place of Brussels, speech and parade to the fountain. Our file had been approved in 2018, and our friend Diane had worked for hours to make Billie Jean's costume in a manneken pis version, which is really not an easy thing. We would like to thank her here very warmly.

The Official Discount date with the Brussels authorities had been set on 25 June. Unfortunately, on the day of dress test on a replica of the ketje, we have been informed that the new echevine of culture, Delphine Hubba, planned to prevent this event. We had to wait this Thursday, June 20th (and see the radio silence to our many messages) to finally receive, by email, an official decision cancelling Michael Jackson's costume to the manneken pis... and the beautiful party that We had planned on this occasion. We strongly regret the unacceptable conditions and the deadline in which this decision took place, as well as the total lack of consideration towards the mjb and fans of Michael Jackson.

'The Guardian' UK picked the story up- of course.

Brussels drops Michael Jackson costume plan for Manneken Pis
Plan to dress statue to mark 10th anniversary of Jackson’s death pulled after Leaving Neverland documentary

The city of Brussels has cancelled plans to dress its famous Manneken Pis statue in a Michael Jackson costume on the 10th anniversary of the controversial star’s death following the latest allegations against him.

An event to be attended by senior city officials during which the municipality would have formally received a miniature sequined jacket, black trousers, trilby hat and single white glove has also been dropped.

The 60cm (24in) Manneken Pis – “peeing boy” in the local dialect – was scheduled to be dressed as Jackson on 25 June on the initiative of a Belgian fan club, a decision that had been approved by the city’s previous administration.

The costume show, and other festivities due to take place over a six-hour event at Brussels city hall, was to be the culmination of a series of tributes leading up to the 10th anniversary of Jackson’s death in 2009, at the age of 50.

The municipality said the cancellation – approved unanimously by councillors – was made in response to the Leaving Neverland documentary, which revived claims that Jackson had sexually abused children.

Delphine Houba, a city of Brussels councillor responsible for culture and tourism, said that as the costume had already been made the clothing would be “administratively received” but that “from then on, we will not dress [him]”.

Neither will the items be put on public display in the museum of the Manneken Pis, where 1,025 pieces of clothing tailored to fit the statue are held.

The Leaving Neverland documentary told the story of two men who say they were groomed and sexually abused as boys by Jackson.

Following its showing at the Sundance festival in January and its broadcast on TV in March there was widespread condemnation of the singer, whose music was dropped by radio stations around the world.

The creators of The Simpsons also shelved an episodes featuring Jackson’s voice.

The Mannekin Pis statue is dressed about 130 times a year in various outfits to mark special occasions or events, such as St Patrick’s Day, Christmas or the start of the Olympics.

The city was said to have been particularly concerned about the possibility of a backlash from the public over the Jackson outfit during its hosting of the Grand Départ of the Tour de France, when the city will be flooded by tourists.

A spokesman said: “The city council of Brussels has not been insensitive to the documentary and has chosen to adopt a cautious position.”

I think it's worse when more stuff gets cancelled because I'm sure the media will make a list of it and fail to mention everything that hasn't been cancelled, or that has taken place already. I wish the Copenhagen Church service had made the news!

He supports MJ. I think he may it next year when this trash has gone away to keep the focus on MJ and not this trash.

As long as it get picked back up next year, it will be ok. We focus on the media and what they are doing, not the average person who is not following MJ everyday.

Thank you!!

Also, yesterday, Michael was the "TODAY'S black music star" for black history on the radio station. And a gift was given to the caller who heard MJ song and called to identify MJ. A guy won. Phone lines were ringing. I could not get through. LOL.

I wore my MJ t shirt out today around a lot of shops. No negative reactions from anyone and the lady serving me at the pharmacy looked at it and smiled. Cars stopped to let me cross the road when they didn't have to so no one here is trying to mow down MJ fans lol (I'm UK btw).

New video from "The Michael Jackson Innocent Project" as part of their new series

"The Hunt Part Two - The Nerverland Five"

I'm glad that they are still producing videos to this subject after other channels stoped with it.
They can create good videos with a beautiful voice much better then podcasts.^^

I think the new series is great especially for people who are newbies on the subject, have not so much knowlage about the MJ cases and time and energy to resarch and read about them for days.

I'm still reading this thread as best as I can to be updated but watch very less MJ videos ;-)

Looking forward to celebrate our beloved king on June 25!

Warm greetings on a beautiful midsummerday from Germany
