ITALIAN music....and humor :)

I sure hope there are other people out there who enjoy Italian music. To the same degree and intensity as me it would be kind of difficult since my connections to that gorgeous country and its artists goes way back in time and space...What follows is a most personal selection of songs and artists containing some of my favorite words, melodies and performances of all time.

Italy isn't called il bel paese for nothing. It truly is a gorgeous country and its cultural heritage (everything from Roman relics to Renaissance masterpieces scattered all over le citta d'arte as they are known) is beyond compare. My focus today though is Italy's modern contribution to one of the highest forms of art ever - music. Also, i must add some of the most humorous moments in the history of Italian TV, at least the part that i got to see :p

miserere, misero me,

Dami l'indirizzo, ci prendo il aereo e vengo. Sto scherzando ovviamente :p

Btw of that incident with Al Bano - if i remember correctly, the Italian media wasn't quite as understanding towards Michael back in the 90s and they were very quick to report his partial defeats, only to minimize the importance of the final result.

Riccardo was wrong about one thing though. I can assure you Michael did know who Al Bano was. After all, he had someone hired with the sole mission to deliver to him the top 10 of major music markets (Italy included), but he was also interested in smaller ones as well, especially countries he visited and touched his heart deeply. People would be astonished by the depth of knowledge and connections of the man to local 'interests'

LOL

yeah you're right Shhaaaby. Actually, Albano continues to say that Mike did copy his song and the Italian media believes him

 Nicoletta Mantovani, Pavarotti's wife, said the same thing in an interview. Topo Gigio was the lead character of a children's puppet show on Italian television... :D

and Lucio Dalla, passed away a few days ago...

I think that's one of the greatest regrets that I had when moving away from Germany to the US.. no more short trips to Roma, London, Amsterdam. *cries*
No more snatching of Laura Biagiotti parfums on some street markets, *bohoo*. (yessss, I was one of those annoying Germans in Italy..mwahaha. Naah, I was harmless.)
If I manage to find some Salvatore Ferragamo in the US, I consider that a special day.:D

Granted, Haendel isn't exactly "Italian", but just about any composer of that era simply HAD to write in Italian. One of my favorite arias, great rendition. A lot of people just don't remember that Italian was the preferred language in music- the way English made it's way around the world.

And here's a good example of 'crossover music' that actually works. Stevie Wonder and Luciano Pavarotti. And I simply adore that those two just tossed both their native tongues into this magnificient, moving song, "Peace wanted just to be free".

Great picture... "Count ALL tenors present", "Maestro X 5". Is that actually in Modena?

Had no idea. He was great. God rest his soul. I remember running last year on his version of 'Tu scendi dalle stelle' and loved it. Truly a loss for Italian music.

Oh yes, absolutely, Michael knew about Topo Gigio.

Pure io, ovviamente. Grazie per tutti i video.

Ohhh, Pace don't be sorry honey. Otherwise you wouldn't have been in the Hold my hand video. Congrats again for that feat :) such a smart girl as yourself surely must not believe in coincidences. You must know your presence there wasn't random, you were representin' all of us here on MJJC :D <object height="360" width="480">Thank you for the songs. And yes, you are so right, Italian was the language of music and...of love.

Indeed great picture. God rest Big Luciano's soul.

Last time around i didn't add a few vids, especially on the funny side of the street. These next two from Fiore talkin' about how difficult it is to be the parent of teenagers these days, especially when girls

Watch out for moment 0:55 when Teo mentions Thriller. I know Cesare Maldini wasn't very pleased with these imitations, but maybe Paolo (il grande capitanoooo del Milan e della nazionale and one of my favorite players of all time) did see the humor in them.

Btw of Adriano and his appreciation of Michael, does anybody remember that lovely letter by Adriano read out in Milan in Piazza del Duomo in late June/Early July 2009? I thought that was a lovely, lovely gesture on his part, full of love and understanding.

A presto......piu o meno *waves*
