Yes, Marlon Jackson can still moonwalk.

It may have been little brother Michael who took the steps to iconic status, but it was “Dancing Machine” Marlon who choreographed them, along with much of what the world came to know as the Jackson moves. Come Friday, June 13, on the stage at Soaring Eagle Casino, he’ll be onstage with brothers Jermaine, Tito and Jackie, turning back the clock and turning up the volume.

“We’re up there for two, two and a half hours,” Jackson said. “People expect to see a Jackson show. We’ll do as many of the classics as we can, and some songs from our new album.” As a celebration of their half-century as performers, a multimedia retrospective will give the now-mature Jackson brothers a breather in between numbers. A tribute to late brother Michael, nearly five years after his passing, is also part of the show.

The next-to-youngest brother of the Jackson tribe is 57 now, a longtime dedicated family man with children and grandchildren of his own. But he fondly recalls the time when he and Michael couldn’t keep their childish feet still while waiting to audition for Motown Records mogul Berry Gordy.

“Michael and I were so little, and we just couldn’t keep still,” Jackson said. “Our brothers kept yelling at us to quiet down; ‘Stop it! We’re going to sing for Berry Gordy!’ I remember another time standing around his pool with all the Motown stars watching and listening to us.”

The young men from Gary, Indiana, soon shot past that stellar audience, becoming the Motown darlings who owned the pop world in the 1970s, including Top 40s “Never Can Say Goodbye,” “The Love You Save,” and “I’ll Be There,” all fronted by Michael Jackson. Michael split from his brothers professionally, but the love remained, and the Jacksons’s determination to go on after his death is an affirmation of that unbreakable family bond.

For Marlon Jackson, that’s meant holding his own family circle together by keeping a lower media profile than some of his other family members. Even so, he’s had to deal with unending interest in all things Jackson, and at times, it’s hurt.

“What the media need to remember is that every story that comes out about us comes back not only to us, but to our wives and children and grandchildren,” Jackson said. “We go to grocery stores, church, playgrounds, schools, and our loved ones have to deal with all that. We’re still grieving the loss of our brother.”

But he’ll be on the stage in spirit, as the Jacksons re-create the moves that had kids (and their parents) up and moving, irrespective of skill level, 40 years ago. Marlon Jackson is proud that he had a small part in keeping kids active way back then. It worries him a little that today, even though the music is still inviting and the choreography joyful, the youth aren’t responding as much.

“They get all their exercise with their thumbs!” he said. “They need to get up off their seats and start moving around. Even if they can’t dance, they can stay in motion. Here’s what you do, kids; get up and make some noise with your feet. Make your parents have to tell you to tone it down.”

That first paragraph has errors.

It was not Marlon who choreographed the shows but more Michael and he talked about that in his book. Even the woman at Motown said in the early days she would say, hey let's do that; this looks good, and things like that. Now that Michael is dead someone is trying to say that it was Marlon. It is true that Marlon was a great dancer and you see his good moves more in the early 70s to me. It could be true that Marlon also said hey lets do something like this, but to claim he choreographed the shows is ridiculous. This is like LaToya saying she told Micheal how to dress and to wear the white glove.

The entire article was full of errors and made me laugh! As for the Moonwalk, I recall the story behind Mike perfecting and/or bringing it to a worldwide audience came via his fascination/respect for urban/street dancers.

That is how cubs are re-writing the history. Michael choreographing their routines is well documented in various books, not only in his own Moonwalker book, but others too. I saw Marlon's attempt choreograph "something" during their reality show, it wasn't pretty.

They seem to have a habit of telling porky pies , just like they said after Michael's passing that Joe didn't beat them, Michael was going on tour with them....yada yada yaaaaa.......

Next, they claim Michael didn't write his music, it was actually Jermoney behind the songs:doh:

Once I composed myself, I had to edit this post to add this fan made clip of Mike dancing. Marlon WISHES he had it like that!

Oh yeah? I guess that explains the astounding amount of success he's met with. The true genius behind it all reveals himself at last.

And exactly what have you achieved in your life, Harry Osborn? LOL Man, you guys are fierce. Lots of hate here...

:coffee: Now who's being "fierce"? In case you didn't get the memo, this website is about and dedicated to MICHAEL JACKSON, first and foremost. Mike's "family" is getting well-earned disdain for the way they have falsely laid claim to everything he's accomplished simply because they're related to him. That, imho is a special kind of grimy and disrespectful to the hard work, dedication, blood, sweat and tears he put in to his GOD GIVEN TALENT.

EDIT: By the way, if they were so f*ckin' fabulous and gifted as Mike, then their careers would SHOW IT and they wouldn't have to lean on their dead brother so much. :hysterical:

Well... at least I don't need to name-drop my brother every time I want attention in my personal or professional life, let's kindly leave it at that.

(And comparing a 22 year old with a 57 year old is a totally fair comparison in every way lmfao)

But if we're going by my namesake CEO of Oscorp is not too shabby.

^^Yeah Marlon was a good dancer. In the group Michael and Marlon were able to show the latest dance moves very well. However, the article is saying something completely different about Marlon's role.

Marlon is trying to inflate his importance to the group’s success by minimizing Michael’s extraordinary dance ability. That’s not cool when he knows he was only as important as one of Gladys Knights Pips.

Marlon, when trying to start his own solo career, was the one Jackson who tried to always streer the conversation away from Michael and talk about own work or his own children. (See his interview with Arsenio Hall -and his performance on that show. He's great. )
I am really sure that it was the writer
that gave him the credit for the Moonwalk, not Marlon.
The only dance move I've ever heard him take any kind of credit for was that "shovel the funk" thing in I think "working day and night" or "Shake your body".

The Jackson kids of Katherine and Joseph never had the chance to really find their talents aside from being puppets on the stage, they had no chance to develope really other chances nor got some real education aside from that it seems, there was no guidance to it, nor some emphasizing of some real education aside from stage behavior... Joseph probably would have laughed about one of this sons telling him,"No I want my books, I want to be a doctor of medicine one day", not even talking about buying such books for his children... the majority of those kids simply has never grown really out of that.

The difference was Michaels tremendous self discipline... also the quality of musicians he worked with... the willingness to work and the intelligence to realize talent alone is not enough and also the sacrifice to isolate himself which made it possible for him to get free of the 'Jacksons way of life'.

You could realize some of the 'Jacksons' blood still in him if you did look carefully... I mean hey he was a 'big spender' all his life also... just that he usually also earned himself with his personal hard work what he was spending.

To me Marlon is only a impersonator of Michaels steps. He got no own ideas, just copying Michael.
Look at VICTORY-Concerts. He's always trying to do it like Michael.
You can't say he has no talent but he has no own ideas.
Like Joe always said: DO IT LIKE MICHAEL! DO IT LIKE MICHAEL!
