State Of Shock (Hard-rock)

Dirty Diana (Pop-rock, Hard-rock, Heavy metal)
Smooth Criminal (Dance-rock)
If You Don't Love (Demo)(Pop-rock?)
Heal The World (Soft-rock)
Black Or White (Pop-rock)
Give In To Me (Hard-rock)

Earth Song (Soft-rock)
D.S. (Hard-rock)
Come Together (Hard-rock)

Is It Scary (Gothic-rock, Funk-rock)
Whatever Happens (Latin-rock)

I don't think I know what rock is...

The Girl is mine ?? - It's more like soft R'n'B, pop. - nowhere near rock IMO.

Human Nature?

Heal the World?

I am not saying it's not correct - but it's not rock in my opinion....

Surprisingly Human Nature classified as soft-rock

This is just a list of random Michael Jackson songs.

Surprisingly Human Nature classified as soft-rock

Possibly because it was written by a member of a rock band.

I remember Toto saying in an interview they passed it on to Michael because rather wanted to do stadium rock type of songs that sound well live in a stadium. So it was quite ironic to see when MJ did it live in stadiums and the crowd was singing along.

To be honest, I'd only classify Beat It, Come Together, Dirty Diana, Give in to Me and Another Day as Rock.
Maybe also IYDLV, D.S. and State of Shock.

I see what the OP is saying. But with the inclusion of Say Say Say and The Girl Is Mine then surely The Man gets in.

They what would you classify has 'soft-rock'? It is a genre, right?

No! There ALL considered rock songs.

The addition of a guitar doesn't necessarily mean its a rock song. I'd disagree with most of your list calling them rock but each to their own.

It's not just the guitar. So you think a guitar riff along makes a song rock?

The better question is: what makes a song like Heal The World, Speed Demon, The Girl Is Mine rock?

WTF with some of the songs in that list!

TGIM, HTW are pop/r&b ballads

Say, Say, Say is pop and r&b

Smooth Criminal is funk

Earth Song is blues, gospel with operatic elements

Scream is electronic, pop, new jack swing

I get the feeling that, in addition to what may clearly be a rock sound, Psycho is splitting up the material here from what may be very blues and soul influenced to what may be more rock influenced.

Or to put it bluntly, black or white music.

Indeed, Susan Fast comments in her Dangerous essay that Heal the World in particular may be "one of the whitest-sounding songs Jackson ever made".

I most certainly do not but this is the only rational explanation i could give some of your choices.

What in the name of god makes HTW a rock song then!? Thats like saying "with you" by chris brown is rock!!!
