LOL, legit one word of what I typed got cut off, but the video is Vevo certified now, which happens when a Vevo video hits one-hundred million views.
The King's Reign continues.

Yea! Am listening to it on YouTube now-need to put Rock With You on repeat and get those views up there. :D

This is Michael's 11th Vevo certified video (videos with views above 100 million get Vevo certified).

1. Thriller 352,260,415
2. They Don't Care About Us (Brazil version) 260,005,022
3. Billie Jean 239,524,683
4. Beat It (Digitally Restored Version)* 193,125,327
5. Remember The Time 173,526,446
6. The Way You Make Me Feel 166,481,631
7. Bad 166,435,730

11. Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough 100,147,551

Next up: You Are Not Alone 99,569,746

* Beat It's views are divided between two versions - a digitally restored one and a normal that has 78,117,762 views. Put together Beat It would actually be 2nd.

Michael is doing very well on YouTube anyway. He is up there with current stars in terms of viewership. (Well, current and latino. For some reason the latter seem to be exceptionally popular on YT. Probably those countries where these artists are popular are the biggest YT users.)

He honestly deserves more views & should be higher on the list, but he's still doing great on YouTube anyway like respect77 said. YANA is probably gonna hit 100k before the year ends.

I wanted to watch YANA but apparently the video is blocked in my country so I won't be able to help it reach certified status -_- I don't even see it on Michael's VEVO channel. That is messed up.

It is amazing! You can find more info about it here: http://vidstatsx.com/michaeljacksonVEVO/youtube-channel. He leaves his contemporaries like Madonna, Whitney, Mariah, etc. WAY behind. Same goes for The Beatles (their most watched video has 30 million views) and Elvis (his most watched video has 60 million views).

I was especially surprised by Madonna because she makes pop music and is still well-known to the younger generation. But her stats are quite underwhelming. Joined in 2005, uploaded 229 videos on her madonna channel, but only has 565 million total views. Her top 3 most viewed videos are Give Me All Your Luvin (65 million), Vogue (54 million) and Girl Gone Wild (36 million).

That's weird. I can see YANA on it. What is not available to me on his Vevo channel is Dirty Diana. Apparently it is blocked in certain parts of the world. I actually wrote an e-mail about it to the online team and they told me they would do something about it, but they haven't ever since.

Yes, MJ's stats are very impressive. Those stats that I cited above are stats for the period between February 2016 (when YT started to officially publish a Top 100 of weekly views for artists) and now. So to be clear, those numbers are just for an about 8 months period.

Since September 2014 (when YT started to measure it) MJ videos have 4,422,869,771 views ( https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/insights-artist.html?artist=/m/09889g&artistname=Michael Jackson ).

Some other arists for the same period (September 2014-now):

Madonna 1,304,723,429 (https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/insights-artist.html?artist=/m/01vs_v8&name=Madonna)
The Beatles 1,634,238,319 ( https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/insights-artist.html?artist=/m/07c0j&name=The Beatles )
Elvis Presley 1,747,804,449 ( https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/insights-artist.html?artist=/m/02jq1&name=Elvis Presley )

The only other veteran artists I see from time to time in the weekly Top 100 (though never as high as MJ) are the following.

Queen 2,876,439,673 (https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/insights-artist.html?artist=/m/0bk1p&name=Queen)
Metallica 3,166,827,812 ( https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/insights-artist.html?artist=/m/04rcr&name=Metallica )
AC/DC 2,045,153,659 ( https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/insights-artist.html?artist=/m/0134s5&name=AC/DC )
Red Hot Chilli Peppers 2,044,306,207 (https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/insights-artist.html?artist=/m/06mj4&name=Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Pink Floyd 2,178,352,330 ( https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/insights-artist.html?artist=/m/01wv9xn&name=Pink Floyd )
Bee Gees 2,258,523,367 ( https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/insights-artist.html?artist=/m/0134wr&name=Bee Gees )

Bob Marley has two counts, one with the Wailers, one just alone - adding those together would make 2,975,897,639.

Bob Marley & The Wailers 2,145,348,507 ( https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/...st=/m/02ht0ln&name=Bob Marley and the Wailers )
Bob Marley 830,549,132 ( https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/insights-artist.html?artist=/m/0bkf4&name=Bob Marley )

Generally when I look at YT and Spotify the strongest classic brands (ie. artists who aren't current artists) are MJ, Marley and Queen. And MJ is definitely on top among them.

ETA: I notice these stats that are from YouTube are somewhat different to the one Linda posted from VidStats. I guess one of the differences is that VidStats measures individual channels (so only the official YT channel for each artist) while YT's own artist stats include Vevo PLUS also videos outside of the official Vevo channel. So this latter also includes videos, concerts etc. uploaded on fan channels. Probably the time period measured is also different. Like I said YT itself measures stats for artists since September 2014.

When I was looking at Vevo last night, I realized Dirty Diana didn't have the Vevo logo. I hope when they add it, they don't lose the stats.
Is there an age demographic for YouTube Vevo users?

YUS!! Go MJ!!! I heard this song playing in a supermarket a few weeks back and I actually heard someone nearby sing the title words quietly :p

No need to be unsatisfied or greedy. These stats are exceptionally great for a non-current artist.

I agree. TBH I think he's doing exceptionally well and I'm happy with how he's doing! It's only to be expected that modern artists will be outpacing him.

He leaves his contemporaries like Madonna, Whitney, Mariah, etc. WAY behind. Same goes for The Beatles (their most watched video has 30 million views) and Elvis (his most watched video has 60 million views).

I just want to say a few things about The Beatles' performance on YT. About a year ago, almost all instances of Beatles music was taken off YouTube and now their music is removed upon upload, making it hard to watch anything that isn't studio versions and thus making views nowhere near as big as they were (you can notice the big drop on Respect's link). There was complaining in the Beatle fanbase but it dissipated quickly as soon after, their discography was uploaded to Spotify/Apple Music etc.

The Beatles do have an official channel now, which has uploaded a few select performances over the past 9 months or so. It's only a very, very small selection of their video library. The videos Linda references at 30 million views (which is actually 2 of them at 30 million - Don't Let Me Down and Hey Jude) were only uploaded 9 months ago. To be honest, 30 million views in 9 months for half century old performances are exceptionally good, irrespective of artist. Of course, even with The Beatles content still allowed on YouTube they wouldn't be reaching MJ's levels and I'm not saying that they would be, I'm just pointing out some factors that come into play.

Although I admit I was a bit surprised by how low Madonna's views were. I looked up Like A Virgin and the official video wasn't even at the top and only had 28 million views or so. It seems like her videos are spread across multiple channels (madonna, WarnerBrosRecords, MadonnaVEVO) which I'm sure doesn't help either. A huge outlier is Bitch I'm Madonna which has 212 million views, but that has Nicki Minaj in it so....

I might be misunderstanding you, but do you mean in the thumbnail? Because it is there, just hard to see :)

Regardless, in any case, YouTube allows you to modify the thumbnail of a video without doing anything to its views!

^^Yes-that's what I meant. I was afraid it wasn't considered an official Vevo vid even tho the description says otherwise. :)

Dirty Diana is not available everywhere though (I guess its view number is so relatively low because of that). It isn't in my country for some strange reason. Like I said, I told it to the online team and they said they would try to do something about it but nothing changed.

I do see Dirty Diana but only the live version that's on VEVO. I always thought it was weird that there was no official video for Dirty Diana on YT but apparently there is one, we just can't see it -_-

I just watched it about 10 times on you guys' behalf. Lol. That has to be IMO hands down his sexiest video ever. Diana's legs are incredible.

Looked up Elvis Presley Vevo out of curiosity-I just saw album covers on his list-I'm surprised they don't have clips from his movies or TV performances-like Jailhouse Rock, etc. I guess people are just listening to it, rather than watching it.

Stop making me jealous :( I haven't seen the Dirty Diana video in years, possibly since 2009? All I can remember is the live version (which is pretty good too, although he mumbles the lyrics at one point, lol).

Well, they are on YT just not on his VEVO channel. I suppose it has something to do with rights.

Haha-I watched that too a couple of times for good measure. Can't resist him stroking that mic stand. It is funny how he scats that entire first verse-but I love it anyway.

Ah, I see-I was strictly pulling up Vevo and thought that was pretty odd.

25,844,067 views for DD.
A small percentage of those must be from me! Hahaha!
I'm sorry, but I'm gonna watch one more time.

In September 2009 when his VEVO channel was created. All the views for his music videos that had been accumulated up to that point were lost, including the enormous surge in views right after his death.

Yep, that happened for every artist during the transition to Vevo. Really unfortunate timing there.

Thanks for all of the info and stats!
Comparing both their stats to MJ's Elvis's low stats don't surprise me because his music hasn't aged well, but the Beatle's low stats do surprise me somewhat.

Either way though I'm just happy that MJ is doing so well.
Go MJ! :D

I feel Elvis' music probably lives on more so through his music than through his performances (and even then, I don't think his music has lived on as well as Michael's or The Beatles. I feel he's lived on more as a cultural icon rather than through his music). Some of his biggest songs do fine on Spotify for someone his age.

Given just how visual Michael's career was though and how renowned/famous he is for his visual works, it's only to be expected he'll have more views than the rest when it comes to videos. I feel his work in music videos and dancing unfortunately overshadows other aspects of his career, such as the music itself, songwriting, producing etc. Has it's ups and downs I suppose.

As for the Beatles, well, I explained on the last page.

MJ isn't only doing well on YouTube and other visual platforms, though. He is also doing well on audio-based platforms. For example, on Spotify (only audio) MJ and Queen are basically the only veteran artists regularly in the Top 100.

Currently MJ is at #83 with 9,429,469 monthly listens ("monthly listens" always shows the number of listens for the past 28 days).

In comparation:

Beatles 7,293,744 (#118)
Elvis Presley 3,977,970 (#304)
Madonna 4,401,954 (#263)

Not to mention MJ is regularly on the Billboard 200 album charts with at least 2-3 albums. MJ's presistence is definitely not limited to YouTube and visual platforms, so I would say his music is just as presistent without the videos as well. There are differences between which songs are popular on YT and on Spotify - eg. Thriller is his #1 song on YT, but Billie Jean is on Spotify, but he is good on both kind of platforms. YouTube, however, is the most important streaming service because it has by far the biggest audience.
