New book: The Awfully Big Adventure - Michael Jackson in the Afterlife

doesn't look promisiming...

Michael Jackson died on June 25 2009 in Los Angeles, from of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication (according to Wikipedia). The one-time King of Pop was preparing for one last assault on the mainstream with a proposed 50 night run of shows at the 02 (thereby trumping his arch-rival, Prince, who had just concluded his legendary 21 Nights). His exhaustion, paranoia and general ill-heath were an open secret. He had lived many lives and inhabited many bodies; PT Barnum, Fred Astaire, and Peter Pan in one mortal coil. His death was mourned by hundreds of millions of fans but it was almost as if he had been dead for some time already. And in his death, in vivid technicolor, we relived the dreams, nightmares, fantasies, and perversions that we had all projected on to him as a celebrity for four decades.

Paul Morley's short biographical portrait of Michael Jackson looks at how we turned the most outrageous child star talent of the late 20th century into a monster; how his decline soundtracked the end of Pop and the end of American Imperialism; how his once staggeringly modern and funky music became secondary to the dysfunctional freak show of watching a vulnerable man literally disintegrate. Tender, erudite, and provocative, Morley's monograph documents a tragedy that is so Shakespearean in scale that it obscures the legacy of the last of the great Song and Dance Men. It is poignant and wild, melancholy and obsessive, cannibalising itslef in ever decreasing circles of enquiry. This is a rare piece of pop cultural alchemy that cuts through the myth in a way that only a writer as great as Paul Morley could do.

I want these people to let Michael rest. NO more can be said about Michael. Same old BS and trying to make $$ off of MJ. Tired of it.

Do you think really this "fans" aren't interested by such topics?

Do you really think that Michael Jackson fans are going to PAY for this book? Do ya? Really?

I truly believe that Michael Jackson fans have better things to do with their money.

LN was an overall flop so most of his fans did not nor care to watch more BS on MJ and being dead and not here to defend himself; however, those who did watch, it was done to be able to debate the lies.

The negativity to try to make money on MJ has run its course for it seems for the MAJORITY of fans and people.

Debate the lies?
a lot of members (here in MJJC) said they will watch it (in February - March) where are they now, why don't they " debate the lies" now !
Watching LN isn't different than buying this book.
And LN wasn't a flop, read the commentary about it here in MJJC, after "fans" watched it.

It was a flop and many fans watch in order to debate the lies (and what HBO was expecting to get in ratings, it was a FLOP especially for a MJ topic and they way it was advertised. I was one on here telling fans THIS DOC WILL BE DISSECTED after it air. And look, people who are interested in the truth did just what I said they were going to do; and as time goes on, it is going to be even more taken apart and showing these liars who they are. Watch when the "court appeal" start taking place). I am sure some are not debating but they still think it is BS. Also, as someone pointed out, BUYING a BOOK and watching a LYING DOC on youtube or tv is a difference. I am not saying there may not be ONE or two people but the OVERALL of folks wont.

The thread is still open.
Go back and read the comments between February - March.
LN is a convincing film, you know why? Because as a first impression, "fans" believed what was said in it.

Sounds really depressing, but not necessarily bad. Still not a book I would ever buy. I'm kind of over MJ books by now. Someone write one about his charity work. I'd probably read that.

Fans who love Michael will never buy and support this book.
Esspecially not after what they went trough in the last months because of the media and by defending MJ online what was often painful.

Hm.....they say LN is the second most watched documemtary in the history of HBO.
It doesn't really matter if it was flop of not.
It was sold in 130 countrys and many millions of people have this childpornographic NAMBLA movie or will watch it and didn't know anything more about the cases as what they saw on the screen.

For the people saying nobody gonna buy this book is a lie. people are buying this book as we speak. it's almost sold out on amazon.

Take that back on the US site it almost sold out not the UK site but that still means people are buying this book.

Well the price of this book is lowing down. i guess it isn't that good. there's has been no reviews on it.

Now I see two reviews and they are not in favour. I don't buy MJ related books unless it's written by a legit person who worked with MJ and never wavered his/her opinion on MJ, such as Michael Bush, Bruce Sweden etc. Sadly, a mockumentary or a poorly written book or whatever it is, if it has MJ's name on it there will always people who would buy/watch it. His name will remain up there along with Mozart - three hundred years after his death people will still talk about him, write about him, make a film about him and speculate about his personal life. It will get worse before it gets better, but that's what happens to the most historic figures so...

Well it has reviews on the UK site but not the US site. the two reviews on the UK site says to not buy it. lol. i guess this a sign it wasn't good at all but people are still buying though. lol. i guess people who are MJ collectors are buying it because they have to have anything MJ. it doesn't matter if it real or not MJ on it they want it. lol. sadly that's very true but hey it their money and collection.
