I never understood why it wasn't included with Thriller 25. That was the perfect opportunity to release it on DVD/Blu Ray

I think they will include it when they release Thriller on Blu-Ray. They did screen it with Thriller 3D few years ago:
    https://www.comingsoon.net/horror/ne...ns-thriller-3d

I googled about it and found this:
    https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threa...-video.776783/

Yes, this was directed by my old pal Jerry Kramer, for whom I did nearly a hundred music videos throughout the 1980s. He was a very gracious and creative man, and this was undoubtedly the biggest show he ever did. A friend of mine had been working on a "30th Anniversary of Thriller" project some years ago and looked into getting the HD rights to remaster the Making of Thriller documentary, but it was completely tied up with MJJ (Jackson's company) and Epic Records. Basically, they didn't feel like doing anything with it, and weren't willing to negotiate to even temporarily sell the rights for a couple of years. Lotta red tape.

There are a lot of missed opportunities like this in the music business, where stuff sits on the shelf for years and years, all because it's almost impossible to get the copyright owners and lawyers in one room and get them to make a decision.

BTW, I think there was at least 10 hours of additional footage on the Making of Thriller doc that nobody ever saw. Whether it was carefully stored, or if it's dusty and melted in a warehouse, or whether it was tossed in the trash in 1984... I have no idea. Kramer told me years ago he shipped all the 16mm footage (approved + outtakes) to Michael's warehouses, and he only has the released version on VHS.

Not exactly true. Where I live, videotapes are still popular sellers at thrift stores like Goodwill, flea markets, and pawn shops. I guess you can find them on Ebay too. There's many things on VHS that have never been officially released on DVD or Blu Ray. There might be low quality bootlegs or public domain versions. They're not on streaming either, unless someone has uploaded their tapes to Youtube. There's no official versions by the studios. Also, many people have tapes of stuff they taped from TV that are not likely to ever be released. My mom has a lot of award shows and TV specials she recorded.

See that's the problem. true people still use VHS's BUT look at people use now. these companies are going by what more people use today. and that's what's sad because all the good stuff is on these VHS's but you can't use them because they not the "thing" anymore. that really sucks.

The estate is missing out on a lot of stuff. we never got anything for Dangerous or HIStory. Invincible will be 20 years old in a year. we are left off on a lot of stuff. this is it is 10 years old. like come on. bring out some new stuff for these albums because they so late on all of them. like hurry up before all die. lol. not trying sound awkward but i'm serious. hurry up with all of this before we all leave this earth please.

    Dear NatureCriminal7896,

would you pleeeeeease start to use the "edit post" function, to add additional replies (if you are still the last one who posted a reply in a thread).

3~4 separate replies after another by one member with a huge signature image means a lot of scrolling for everyone.

The "edit post" button you will find at the bottom on all of you own posts.

    Example:

Just click on it and add whatever you want.

    Thanks!

In some cases, a company might refuse to put something on DVD (or digital streaming), like Disney's Song Of The South, certain old cartoon shorts, or the 1950s TV show Amos n Andy. A reporter asked the current CEO of Disney (Robert Iger) if Song Of The South was going to be on the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. He said no.

Agreed; "keep circulating the tapes" is a well-known thing in certain fandoms. (Speaking here as someone involved with the vintage Sesame Street/Muppets/misc. Jim Henson fandom. There's all kinds of interesting stuff out there that will never get a DVD release, or only exists now because people were fortunate enough to tape it from TV.) VHS tapes still have a lot of collector value.

That's probably how The Jacksons 1970s variety show is available. I think a TV channel in Europe reran the show, because everytime I've seen it online, it always has the same network logo on it. When the show originally ran, TV networks didn't put logos on the programs because there were few channels. Also people with VCRs in the 1970s were rare, and the early ones used really large tapes. I think mostly businesses used them like for job training videos. With some DVDs of TV shows, the original broadcast may have songs in them that were removed on the DVD or replaced with generic music because too much money was asked by a record label and/or song publisher. There's also the 1960s Star Trek show with new special effects added to the DVD/Blu Ray. I think the Blu Ray has both the original and updated versions.

It's kind of a similar situation with music. Many records have never been released on CD and are not on streaming sites, except in cases where people have uploaded them on Youtube. Especially with obscure artists and non-mainstream genres. I remember that occasionally a cassette or 8-track might have an exclusive mix of certain songs that didn't make the later CD version which used the record version. Same with extra tracks that were not on the records.

Why DVD? They can allready do a Blu-ray. Quality seems to be there.
